nicko Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 what are the rules on loan players , i know we have 1 domestic and 1 international is that our limit ? i think its relevent because which players would sign a permanent deal with a club that may get relegated and do we really want to be offering 3-4 year deals at 40-50k a week and be in the championship Two from the Premier - and you have Danny Simpson right now. Any number from abroad.

JAL Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I don't think a coach's position as a player counts. Sam's right-hand men have been Phil Brown [right back], Ricky Sbragia [centre half], Sammy Lee [midfield], Steve Round [midfield]. Why not, thats were a lot of their playing experience comes from thats incorporated into their style, you do mention two midfielders in Lee and Round backing big Sam up previously. Explains why Big Sam worked on set pieces at Bolton because thats probably were he gained his only attacking experiences as a player.
American Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Joaquin's fee could have been less if a bid had been made. Rovers went to see him twice and were told he was interested and available. But didn't he or one of his advisors come out and say he didn't want to leave Spain?
AJW Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Two from the Premier - and you have Danny Simpson right now. Any number from abroad. any from abroad ....now thats interestng , i cant think many PL are gonna loan out players to other PL clubs and those who will be loaned out will probably fringe or youth players , not what we really need in a relegation dogfight
thenodrog Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Nicko, any idea if Sam wants to make additions to the back room staff? I posted in another thread that Sam thought he made too many changes too quickly at Newcastle, therefore does not want to make the same mistakes again. Plus any extra backroom staff would just have to be laid off should we get relegated. Surely that would depend on the terms that they were offered? Why would we offer anyone a 3 year deal in our position? Better to pay a bit over the top for six months and then take a longer term view once the season is over.
nicko Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 But didn't he or one of his advisors come out and say he didn't want to leave Spain? Obviously not the one who told Rovers he did...they wouldn't have been after him otherwise.

thenodrog Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Of course, but the board might not be that keen on splashing out, even for the short-term. Providing the individuals are not contractually tied into full employment the cost would hardly cretae a ripple never mind a big splash. I'm sure that the club would be prepared to do everything possible to support the new manager and also send out a strong message to the players.
rover6 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Sam once stayed up at Bolton by signing three guys he had never seen play in one last-minute set of deals...all done by one persuasive agent who bundled them onto a jet. This transfer business is not an exact science. The thing about Allardyce is that he doesn't need to be under pressure to make those kinda deals. And that's what depresses me about him. The Bulent Akins and Martin Djetous will be here in their droves, I fear. That is, unless JW and Co draw the line and force him into signing substantial players only (which I can't imagine them doing, especially if Allardyce grabs the moral high ground by steering us to safety).

Hasn't he already repeated Hughes mantra to only bring in 1st team players rather than bench men?
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 So it's sell Roque now and take around 18-20m or keep Roque and get 15m in the Summer thus costing us 3-5m plus wages between January and Summer?
bonger 26 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 afternoon all. the thread is making for intresting reading today. nicko any truth in the givet reports he seems to fit the bill of the left/center back?
tony gale's mic Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say whoever we bring in, I think Sam ought to keep the current squad of players up, just about. Any additions for me would be a bonus and wold tip the scales in our favour that bit more.
Oklahoma Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Or wait till the summer and have no Hughes to buy him.

The Bolton fans will confirm this [or otherwise], but for a lot of the time, Bolton wouldn't pay large transfer fees. They tended to bring in players pretty much at the end of their contracts, but pay good wages. Therefore, they didn't lose a lot of money through losses on transfers, they only lost the wages paid. To follow that further, that allowed Sam some reign to bring in unknowns, because he could always release them if they didn't live up to the standards required, without losing a fortune in lump sum, transfer fees.
philipl Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Or wait till the summer and have no Hughes to buy him. Even with Hughes there, no bid yet.
Oklahoma Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Even with Hughes there, no bid yet. the transfer window started 2 days ago
philipl Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 the transfer window started 2 days ago This is funny- find myself arguing against myself now. But apparently City have had a bid for somebody accepted by Chelsea and have made about five other bids already. At least one of which is a forward.
Oklahoma Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Maybe Hughes doesn't think the forwards are a priority for them. Obviously, they turned to West Ham since they need to sell. And they will make 20 + bids this month, minimum.
alexanders Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 A little bit off-topic,but Rovers related. Do anyone think that City will be done with theirs spending spree early in the window which will make way for players to leave the eastlands in the end of it? I think that some players in City can be bargains. BTW - what happened to the swede Astrit Ajdarevic?

nicko Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 benjani anyone ? Benjani is decent, but he has a dodgy thigh muscle that keeps laying him off for long spells.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Would a swap deal be best then, if it is 15m each way? I expect us to keep hold of Roque if he is 15m either way, but if they want him this window, a swap deal would allow him to go, us to get some cash to strengthen and possibly a player or two in the deal, which would mean we didn't have to go out and buy somebody. Various offers would help us strengthen without having to go to the hassle of selling then buying with the risk of not getting anybody. Sturridge + Cash Elano + Cash Elano + Sturridge Johnson + Cash Johnson + Sturridge Ireland + Cash Ireland + Sturridge Would all make us a stronger team. Any ideas which City players could move if such a circumstance occured? Ireland is on fire, and Sturridge has potential but there are others who could be willing to move.
Hi Mack Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Benjani is decent, but he has a dodgy thigh muscle that keeps laying him off for long spells. Also..... Benjani + Banjo = Cows ass missed
