Hughesy Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I think sams comments last night made it quite clear that he was willing to work with Carlos to see what impact he can have with us in the future.

thenodrog Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Just a thought. IMO we don't need another striker, we can cope with Roberts, Benni and Derbyshire. 18m will allow us to strengthen other areas and that is what we need at the moment. 4 striker without any service is not much use to anybody After Derbyshire's performance last night I hope you aren't going to have any more thoughts.
dellinsert Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Thats like comparing Dario Marcolin to Mark Atkins! Carlos is nowhere near Okocha, and probably never will be. I'm talking type of player, attacking, clever, skillful, not current level of ability. It seems the general consensus is that Sam's "type of player" is the big, strong chaser. Neither Carlos or Okocha fit into this category if you ask me.
Mr Creosote Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Diouf is a loon. He can move if anyone wants him. I would be stunned if Wigan fancied him and I am hoping Rovers find better. Samba is not going anywhere as we speak. He was unsettled under the previous management, but seems happy enough with Sam. Thought it was significant that Bunn played last night - and not Brown. Makes me think Sheff U could get him sometime soon. Sam is willing to let Villanueva go and has been since he arrived. I'm not sure he is Sam's type of player which is why he was dragging him when he was the only player with the vision and skill to make an attacking pass. The best thing I can say about Carlos is that he would look a player in Coyley's team. We had to accept a certain "style" of football when we turned to Allardyce to rescue us. Thing is, we will be in the Premier League next season. "Coyley's team" wont.
Hughesy Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Last night proved we need another striker regardless of RSC leaving. Maybe someone on the cheap like Lita who could push Derbyshire abit more. If RSC goes then we simply need a better option than Matty.
T4E Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Perhaps Sams type of player is good ones? Ie Okocha. You don't need to fancy a certain type of player to have wanted him in your side.

The "Sam's type of player" quote wasn't mine, I was merely asking a question based on it. Perhaps it's just a case of needs must at the minute?
thenodrog Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Thenodrog--you don't seem to know the difference between "legal" and "moral" and that's how you can you describe Neill's conduct as "honourable".With you words mean what you want them to mean. I know that they are rarely used in the same sentence. Well done to you. Now 47er you put yourself in Neill's position at that time and tell me how AS A PROFESSIONAL you would have gone about maximising your income?
67splitscreen Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 This thread is becoming a dumping ground, for off topic posts and personal little squabbles. Must be 20-30 posts on Lucas leaving Rovers, Ince being brought in, types of player Sam likes. None of which have nothing to do with........ Nico's January Rumour Mill. Come on either move them to the respective topics, or this thread will have a 100 pages before Sam even gets a sniff at a player.
Oklahoma Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Nicko, any idea how Tottenham's signing of Defoe will affect Man City position? They must be desperate to sign new players.

I would love to know if nicko knows of any interest for players in the central mid area, we have nothing in this area of the park first and second team that are good and reliable enough to play week in and out, we are crying out for some creativity and pace.

The "Sam's type of player" discussion was based purely on a comment Nicko made, is that allowed? Meanwhile, the LT is reporting that El-Hadj has been quoted in a Senegalese newspaper that he is in talks with Allardyce and would love to come here. Paper talk, lost in translation, or true? Nicko??
nicko Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Nicko, any idea how Tottenham's signing of Defoe will affect Man City position? They must be desperate to sign new players. I'm starting to think Man City don't know Man City's position . It's becoming obvious that the Arabs want world famous names, Sparky wants Premier names... Trouble. Meanwhile, the LT is reporting that El-Hadj has been quoted in a Senegalese newspaper that he is in talks with Allardyce and would love to come here. Paper talk, lost in translation, or true? Nicko?? Diouf is talking and the quotes seem legit. But if it was a done deal he would not haveto go public or link Wigan with a move for him. He wants to leave Sunderland and wants the world to know.
47er Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I know that they are rarely used in the same sentence. Well done to you. Now 47er you put yourself in Neill's position at that time and tell me how AS A PROFESSIONAL you would have gone about maximising your income? If all I cared about was maximising my income(when I was already a millionaire) I'd have done exactly what Neill did. I'd have been surprised to find a Rovers supporter describing me as honourable though! Horrible maybe.
47er Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Nicko---------is anybody going to move for Kightly in this window? Or is it accepted that he'll stay at Wolves?
Iceman Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Nicko, any idea if there are other players from City being linked with Rovers? the likes of Elano,Caicedo(sp) etc etc... also do you think with Diouf coming out saying we and Wigan are linked, that his time at Sunderland is now up?
thenodrog Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 also do you think with Diouf coming out saying we and Wigan are linked, that his time at Sunderland is now up? Look 3 posts up.
nicko Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Nicko---------is anybody going to move for Kightly in this window? Or is it accepted that he'll stay at Wolves? Wolves could make millions by being promoted. It's not worth selling him. Plus they are reasonably financially sound.
brian_gallagher85 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Nicko I can see where you are coming from with regards to your comments about Diouf, however if you look at his goal scoring and assists figures for the last two seasons you can see that they're not dissimilar to David Bentleys! However, I do agree that he's an arsehole On a side note, any news regarding Given? I've just been talking to his Dad who again told me he fancies Arsenal. He says his phone is off at the minute though and has heard nothing recent....which I believe, because he normally shouts his mouth off about the slightest chance of a move
Gav Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Diouf is talking and the quotes seem legit. Looks like I'll be joining Waggy then.
John Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Sam did day that he and the chairman would be going out to get some players in. Look at Diouf's comments, he is trying!
Gav Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Why? Because he's a dirty diving spitting **** simple as that. Like I've said before I've never hated any footballer as much as I hate that rat
JAL Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Looks like I'll be joining Waggy then. Dont know what to make of Diouf other than he might be better than Matty Derbyshire but the thought of Roque out and Diouf in fills me with dread and sees Rovers heading only one way.
