Mr Creosote Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 We're 2nd bottom and our squad players struggled to beat Blyth Spartans, We need more than Tweaking, we can't blame everything on Ince. For me we need at least 3 players Right Back, Right Wing and someone creative as Dunn can't be relied on to be fit, January maybe the wrong time to buy but we have to make some moves. I dont think it's fair to say that a team containing a lot of kids struggled at Blyth. Our reserve team did ok in a tight, unfamiliar, hostile arena on a ploughed field of a pitch against opposition who "parked the bus". We should have been four or five out of sight before their late rally. That said only Grella did himself any favours and Allardyce will no doubt be scratching his head as to how he bolster the squad's quality on League 1 money.

jonv Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 why are we getting excited about buying relegation players from relegation teams... if they are being allowed to go by there clubs it normally means that they are in fact.....@#/?
Hughesy Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Why not? Cause he " hates " us? I think as a captain of our biggest PL rivals, he has to spice things up whenever he talks! Im sure if Sam asked him, he wouldnt say no. Seriously if you have ever met Kevin Nolan you would know that he would find it very, very hard to join us. We would need to offer him miles more cash to even tempt him... he really does hate us with a passion. He always goes on and on about how much he hates us.
Bobby G Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Hughesy, you've met him? If its something personal, then thats something else entirely. But I recall Nolan not ruling himself out when initially he commented on Sam's appointment.
Majiball Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Just spotted this on the times Blackburn Rovers have expressed an interest in Franco Semioli, a Fiorentina winger who has played three times for Italy Good player, quick at least I guess Santana is keeping him out.
Bobby G Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I think he used to play at Palermo or Torino a few years ago if Im not mistaken.
Lathund Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 The club should be saying that only minor tweaks are necessary, whether it's actually true or not. What would there be to gain by saying that we're looking to make wholesale changes? That'd just tell clubs we're desperate and we'll pay over the odds. It may also have a demoralizing effect. Personally I believe we can stay up with the players we have; as big as some of the needs are, other teams are in worse shape. However I still believe we should be looking at signing a couple of players as that'll increase our chances - and will also allow us to take advantage of how few points actually separates us from the top half of the table. Most of all, of course, a right winger. Simply because we don't have anyone. I like Bert, but he's our best right back, our best (only) right winger and one of our better central midfielders. We can't be in a situation where he's needed in all three places at once. So, a right winger at a minimum. Even if it's just a loan or a short term thing; we simply need someone who can do a decent job there. In addition to that either a right back or a central midfielder; and use Bert in the position we don't strengthen. Of course I would be happy if we could find good deals in both those positions, and if we can get a pacy striker as well then that's great, but it needs to be players who truly improve the team, and don't cost an arm and a leg.
Majiball Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Torino, I do believe, but he's a right midfielder and I think we are missing one. He did really well with Chievo. I'd rather have him than Diouf. but italians do seem to struggle over here.
Oklahoma Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Semioli plays in Fiorentina but, according to site calciomercato, he should be transfered this january. he is 28 and has had the following clubs: - Fiorentina ( 2 years) - Chievo (4 years) - Vincenza, ternana e Salernitana (one season each)
rog of the rovers Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Ternana? Wasn't that the former home of Ciccio? Anything interesting happening today nicko?
dudedog Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 are the rumours of sparky going in the next 48 hours true?
bubblerrovers Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Offer enough and he'll come. Preferably no doubt in his case he will look to Bolton to match our offer. Emerton can't cross a ball if somebody stands in front of him granted, but that apart he is not a seriously weak link so why are you wanting to consign one of our stronger players and no doubt higher wage earners to the bench? I think you answered you own question. Surely Crossing is a wingers main role?? He's not creative enough in my opionion, i'd rather him at right back bombing forward
Hughesy Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Hughesy, you've met him? If its something personal, then thats something else entirely. But I recall Nolan not ruling himself out when initially he commented on Sam's appointment. Yeah a few times. Honestly he has a personal grudge against our club - I would be shocked if he would come to ewood. But I suppose a new challenge and at the end of the day 'money talks'.
broadsword Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 it's not a problem because I don't like Bolton.
braddock Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 i don't want nolan. i would rather have brett centre mid and diouf on right wing as it would be cheaper. more to spend on a striker then too. i don't want this but i would prefer it to nolan, i dont particularly rate him as a footballer (and i'm not being biased, i didnt rate him long before i decided he was a c***, and i don't feel he has improved that much since that decision). i also believe that what williams has said regarding minor tweaks is not a smokescreen and i hope it isnt. these players ARE good enough in the right system and under the right guidance, this has been proved!

I think he is one of those useful players who pops up with a few goals, nothing special though. Throughout Capello, McLaren, Sven he was never in any of the England squads when a lot of mediocre players were selected ahead of him even during injury crisis's. Don't watch a lot of Bolton, he's probably just a MOTD player.
braddock Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 there is only one ex bolton player i would be happy at the time of signing for us (though i'd back anyone and also be happy for anyone if the played well for us) and that is gudjohnson. he won't come though. other than that i can honestly say i wouldn't specifically want any others. (i'm not even counting anelka as that would be impossible for the next 4 years or so at least)
bennyboyt11 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Im hoping we can get some players for the future too, shocking peformance from the Reserves against Blyth highlights the fact we have very little promise in that division... Suppose nows not the season to be concentrating on that, but it would be nice to see once in a while i suppose... Inces only good thing was brining Bunn in!
Hughesy Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Speak to most bolton fans and they hate him. Apparently he has been crap for the last 2 1/2 years. Abit like a certain left winger we have!
bigbrandjohn Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 are the rumours of sparky going in the next 48 hours true? Maybe thats why the Santa Cruz deal is stalling. They were happy buying Bridge for any manager but Santa Cruz,Bellamy, Parker oh and of Course Mokena did not fill them with confidence about the aspirations of our erstwhile Hero. Any new manager coming in would probably not choose any of them.
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Well the LET reckons we are going to be making a solid move for someone pretty soon. To quote John Williams "There is one player we have moved on. I would say we are very close to making a bid for one player". LET reckons the player in question is Diouf.
