alexanders Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Not Sam's type...and not a position that needs strengthening right now. RW? It's where we need the strengthening.

nicko Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I remember him as a left winger at Charlton...an anonymous left winger...and he is in his 30s now. Could be wrong. It seems a long time ago, Odd one.
captainhaircut Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Has there been any developments with Givet? Talk of a trial seems strange. A 26 year old French International will surely be a bit put out by having to go through a trial?
bluebruce Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The choice is... Say no to Man City's low offer and gamble on staying up with Roque and then sell him for what you want - £20 million or even less if you feel like it - at the end of the season. Say yes to Man City's low offer. If the offer is as low as I hear then there is no way he should or could be sold. The daft thing is that Man City know this. So why behave like this. Who do they think they are? Spurs? Actually Nicko, from Hughes' comments on the skysports article, I get the distinct impression City will make a higher bid. Ok, they're awash with cash, but why constantly set a dangerous precedent by paying over the odds straight off? They will get mugged if they do- clubs will reject their first offers knowing a bigger one will come. Hughes is a shrewd operator, I'm sure they've got a bigger bid coming but they wanted to start the unsettling work and such.
herbergeehh Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Rommedahl is/was a right winger, wasn't he? The Danish Keith Gillespie.

A 26 year old French International will surely be a bit put out by having to go through a trial? Givet is a strong possibility. In his case we should call it a 'test' rather than a trial. Thefact is he has not played all season. At the very least he needs to come over to see what shape he is in. Even as a loan signing - which it would probably be - you would want to know he has not been at the croissants during his time on the sidelines. Rommedahl is/was a right winger, wasn't he? The Danish Keith Gillespie. Does that mean he likes a bet? Just made a quick check...he plays down both wings. I remember he was a big letdown on the left at Charlton, all pace and no good crosses. Maybe someone forgot to tell Curbs he should have been on the right.
Ozz Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Hi. Villa fan in peace. I don't want to ask Nicko any Villa questions, only to praise him and you guys on a great forum !! Nick-How did you discover this site? By accident, or told of it's existence by someone? ...and you guys on a great forum !! It used to a lot better!
AJW Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 rommedahl was awful , as someone has said all pace and no end product, danish kieth gillespie ..no try danish george donis!

Amo Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Can someone explain to me where Tottenham get all their money from? £14m Pavlyuchenko, £16.5m Modric, 16.5m Darren Bent, £15m Bentley, and now £15m for Defoe to finish his loan at Portsmouth. Jewish goldmine perhaps?
BuckyRover Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Surely he won't fancy this 'test' if Newcastle are sniffing around? Ince was an idiot for giving players trials??
RoverRich Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Paulo, tell us how you know "for a fact" we are looking at Rommedahl! You can't just say that and leave it - we need to know what you know!
BuckyRover Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I can't imagine us looking at Rommedahl. Maybe pointing and laughing at him.....
tony gale's mic Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Ince was an idiot for giving players trials?? Ince was an idiot full stop. Now give it a rest...
BuckyRover Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Ince was an idiot full stop. Now give it a rest... Give what a rest? I am just pointing out rampant hipocrasy Our performance after 3 games is similar. We lost a 2 goal advantage due to poor substitutions. We dominated the Sunderland games and "should" have won. Derbyshire has been played on the wing. Vogel has been mostly ignored or when he has played, he has played very badly. We only just managed to beat Blyth in what was an awful performance. I think Allardyce is probably the right man to take us forward, and Ince definitely needed to be sacked in the end. I just don't think that much has changed, the only significant change is the outlook of the fans. I just wish Ince had appointed more respected coaches.
Fraserkirky Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Nicko, Whats the scoop with our former captain Mr Barry Ferguson? Apparantly available on the cheap and the geordies's are interested. Also Mcgeady has been done to death on this board, but have we have ever been interested? Cracking winger! Please nicko bring us some good news, this is painful.
RoverRich Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 'Poker Man' on official messageboard claims Rovers have made a bid for Diouf. He says he has a pal working at Boyles (sunderland shirt sponsors) and says it is a good source. Heard anything Nicko? Anyone else know if this Poker Man is reliable? Don't normally go on the other messageboard but seeing as it is the transfer window thought I would have a gander to see what/who they are chatting about. I know it was a no-go apparently this morning but then again we have told City Santa Cruz is not for sale and they still put in a bid so we will have to wait and see...
Amo Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Bucky, if you think Sam was gonna come in and completely transform the place you're sadly mistaken. The team is still lopsided and lacking clear quality after the Bentley fiasco. Sam is taking us back to basics, keeping things tight and using it to restore some confidence to a side leaking goals left, right, and centre under Ince's powderpuff leadership. Look at Tottenham. They started brightly under Redknapp, but now their underlying problems still show up. Yet they've still significant more talent than us, and can buy their way out of trouble. As for Ince appointing better coaches, that's just another example of his poor judgement and preparation for a Premiership campaign.

I just don't think that much has changed, the only significant change is the outlook of the fans. I just wish Ince had appointed more respected coaches. It isn't rampant hypocrisy though is it? Ince lost 7 games on the bounce before Sam came in. Sam has had to take charge of this side in tatters and we've got 5 points from 3 games since. Our performances under Ince were woeful, the defence the worst in the league. Under Sam we went 265 minutes without conceding a goal and could and should have won all three games. How many of Ince's defeats could you say that about? Maybe one or two early on, but certainly not any of the later ones. We lost a 2 goal advantage thanks to a combination of factors, those substitutions could have been better but were hardly outrageously bad (not like switching RSC for Fowler at any rate). As much as our failings were there, Sturridge came on and played a blinder. Derbyshire has been on the wing yes, Vogel has just had a season of being frozen out, Sam has said he isn't keen on putting players straight into the first team like Carlos and Vogel who haven't played all season. And do you blame Vogel for being rusty when he's had such little playing time? Blyth was an awful performance but it was a team with 11 changes.

Anyway 1 big thing has changed---------we got 5 points from 3 games ------NOT NONE!
alexanders Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Nicko; I think I've read somewhere that Rovers are interested in the West Ham target Bryce Moon from Phanatinaikos. He can play both right back and right wing and is a very pacy one. Heard anything?
