Beattie has gone to Stoke - £2.5m.

Kuqi is chunkier imo.

Has the definition of "chunky" changed so drastically over the last 40 years or so? When the phrase was in current use (or cool if you prefer) in the 60's it was always aimed at people of fairly short but wide stature (not fat) and NEVER applied to tall individuals, which applies to both Beattie and Kuqi I would suggest.

Blake, Ward, Beattie, Davies, Burgess, Fowler, we certainly have had some top strikers in our time!!

Maybe that's why Benni put on weight? Perhaps he thought it was the 'in' thing to do?

We also Had Shearer, Sutton, Speedie, Newell, Gallagher, Tony Field, Simon Garner, Derek Dougan, Fred Pickering,

Not to mention Tommy Briggs and Tom Johnston!!

Done a bit of checking on Marc Zoro at Benfica.

Two games in two seasons.

Been on trial at West Ham.

Due this way soon.

Oh dear.

Hope the right backs being watched this weekend turn out to be good...

Nicko any other positions being discussed/scouted or is right back the priority?

I have heard about a few right backs, there's every chance a defensive midfielder is on the radar and possibly a right winger...but I don;t have info on that yet.

Givet is the left side centre half/left back player on the list too. If Marseille ever clear him for take-off.

Nicko, just a little help:

Last season, Zoro played a total of 6 games for Benfica and 2 for Ivory Coast in CAN.

This season, well, in June, he played 2 games for Ivory Coast and played again for them in October. He also played 2 reserve games.

I talked with a friend of mine that is a benfica and rovers fan like me and we both agree that he is a good centre and right back that could be helpful for Rovers.

Nicko, surely our most urgent need is for a right winger?!! I hope that we are not just relying on Diouf to change his mind and want to leave - do we not have any other irons in the fire?

If we got a winger who could get past a defender and cross a ball (unlike Bert) then Emerton could go back to his best position of right back.

RSC has suffered this season from a lack of decent crosses. Benni and Jason have done well so far because they are more suited to a more direct game.

Why has he not played?

And why did West Ham not take him?

It seems very odd.

There are probably right wingers being watched and maybe even inquired about...I've just not heard any names so far...doesn't mean they don't exist.

Nicko, as far as I know, he fell to 5th centre back in the team.

Rui Costa, the new team manager, decided that every season, at least one youth player has to enter in the senior squad.

This season it was Miguel Vitor, a promissing centre and right back.

The other 3 centre backs are Luisao, brazilian international, Sidnei and David Luis (both promissig brazilian young centre backs).

So, Quique Flores, the coach, opted that Zoro could be transfered as soon as possible.

Cheers...very helpful...still sounds a strange choice with so few games behind him recently.

Nicko, any idea on how many signings BS intends to make? Is he just taking it day-by-day or is he very keen to improve what the squad has? I know of the comments attributed to both JW and BS, but we all know what gets said to the media isn't necessarily what is really going on.

Would no one else fancy Beattie back here at that price? Just right for Big Sam I'd have said.

I'd rather have Roberts than Beattie. He's a stronger chap and more of an out-an-out target man.

Beattie can finish. Only thing Roberts has that he doesn't is pace.

Perhaps but pace is something we are severely lacking in our squad so it makes Roberts pace even more valuable. I've never been too sure on Beattie although £2.5 million is a good price if true. I just don't think Beattie is as dynamic and exciting as Roberts.

Dear me, i'm starting to sound like I think Roberts is a legend

I agree with you mate - I'd like both in the squad, particularly if Beattie is only £2.5m.

I wonder if we could go in at £2m and have Beattie force this issue with Sheff Utd on account of him wanting to come back to Rovers.

Well, I suppose the biggest question is if and when RSC goes, who should be bring in to replace him? Normally, I try not to discuss such things but the fact that Hughes seems determined to get his man as well as the fact that he has an open wallet, Santa has said he wants to go and this mysterious 'calf' injury which has kept him out for nearly three weeks (?) seems to suggest he has played his last game in a Rovers shirt.

Would be interesting to hear everyone's views on who BS may be targetting as a decent enough replacement? - no unknowns allowed (only joking!)
