Gérald Cid (born 17 February 1983 in Talence, Gironde) is a French football defender, who is currently playing for OGC Nice.

Cid joined Bolton from Girondins de Bordeaux in July 2007, having spent 8 years with the French club.

After a number of shaky performances he was christened 'the hapless Gerald Cid' by Bolton Evening News journalist Gordon Sharrock.

On January 13th, it was announced that he had left Bolton Wanderers by mutual consent. He returned to France, joining Ligue 1 side Nice, on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Benni is looking quality again and although Roberts can't hit a cows backside with a banjo, he definitely brings something to the team and is a real handful for defences. To stay up we don't need a proven Prem striker who can bang 10-12 goals in the second half, we just need someone who can chip in with a few, and that could come from Europe or anywhere - look at where Stead came from. And the rest of that money could get both a RW and a CM, and with even half decent additions there we'd be nailed on to stay up. The reason we are where we are is because we've been so badly lacking in those two areas...plus our defence of course but not having Nige and Incey is sorting that one out by itself.

And you say Roque should score more than 4 goals...but for Bayern his usual record was a goal every 4-5 games. There's every chance last season was a flash in the pan.

Like I said I'm not saying we shouldn't keep him, but I wouldn't be gutted if we sold him. Especially now Benni's back and we've been much better going forward these last three league games.

We already have that with Roque. The only reason to change this would be to trade-in and maybe get two (or more) players for the price of one. Which I suppose is a good argument.

That said mate, I think we are on the same page on this one in that we both aren't sure what is the best thing to do. Now is probably the right time to sell from a business perspective but only provided we can ensure our Premier League status. If we can't then it's very poor business sense. I'll hazard a guess that Sam is probably of the same opinion as we are and is doing his best to get the price as high as possible knowing full well that if we don't sell him we are still in a strong position. It's nice despite all City's (supposed) cash that we hold all the cards on this one. B)

That is the main reason I think we should sell Santa Cruz other than him wanting away. The guy has not been the same this season but much of that can be traced to the woefully poor service that has been provided to him. Now if we can get in a couple of midfielders and keep Cruz as well than great. However if we cannot give him the service to thrive on then we will not be able to ultilise him fully anyway.

This is assuming Sam has in mind exactly who to bring in if Cruz leaves. Not a lot of point selling him and not bringing anyone else in. We may not be able to sell him for as much in the summer but we would not lose anything like the amount of money that we would should we be relegated.

Sky say West Ham are taking Zoro on trial.

Hammers trial for Zoro

Benfica defender Marco Zoro has revealed that he is set for a five-day trial at West Ham.

The Ivory Coast international has struggled to settle in Portugal following his arrival in 2007, with first-team football proving hard to come by.

He has therefore decided to act on interest from England and is keen to secure a permanent move to the Premier League.

While he has admitted to receiving an invitation to train with West Ham, Sam Allardyce's Blackburn are also believed to have expressed an interest.

"I will spend five days on trial at West Ham," Zoro told skysports.com.

"At the moment I am in the UK, but I am not supposed to say anything else at the moment.

"Benfica? I don't know what is happening. I have never been given an opportunity to prove myself.

"The Premier League would be a dream for me, so let's wait and see what happens. I will talk more next week."

Almost all the Lille defenders have experience from playing in the Champions League and has been with Lille for a very long time.

Ouaddou (Nancy) used to ply for Fulham back in the day, and i recognize Dossevi (Le Mans), Kante (Nice), Rippert and Mater (Valenciennes) as seasoned Ligue 1 campaigners.

Oh, and Karl Svensson in Caen is a relatively young swedish central defender who played for 6 months for Glasgow Rangers before this move.

There taking the Mick.................... http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/tm_...-name_page.html

Seems we are taking an interest in Beattie as well? http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/tm_...-name_page.html

Nicko said earlier that Beattie wants to join Rovers but there seems to be little interest from Rovers

Chretien. I remember playing FM, and he always used to score from long-range against me! :P Havent seen him in real life though...Eddie might enlighten us a bit.

About Beattie, in no way is he a replacement for Roque but he is definitely a proven scorer in the Premiership. People forget his Southampton days. Better finisher than Roberts or Derbyshire for sure.
