imy9 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Nicko- In the People article it states that we have beaten Hull and Newcastle for Chretien, how far down the line are we with signing him or are we merely keeping tabs on him?

alexanders Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 We were suppose to see him in action yesterday, but since we we're scouting him in the summer as well may be not far away?
nicko Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Chretien is very much on the radar. Shame the game was off as chief scout Barry Whibtrad had flown over to see him. I don't know where the cancellation leaves it...I take it they will go over again just to check. Chretien is a good player, was watched at the start of the season - but is expensive at around £4 to 5 million. So I would imagine they will want to see him in the flesh again before parting with that kind of cash. The fact other clubs are linked tells me the boy or his agent is pushing for a move. Givet due in tomorrow.

Good player one we've been linked with before, he's impressive in france, young and has re-sale.
Stylish kid in the Riot Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Nicko, whats the situation with Bentley? Does Redknapp rate him and if not is he going to be available for transfer and for what price. He really pi%$ed me off with the way he went about his move but got to say, if the price was right I'd have him back here in a heartbeat.

That is, if we get them. Any other players being watched at the moment, Nicko? More attacking ones, preferably?
rovers1993 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 nicko, daily mails says we're sealing off the deal for finnan. true?
philipl Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I think we might find Spurs have first dibs on Finnan.

Givet due in tomorrow. They play Toulouse next Saturday, I guess it just depends if Sam wants to wait a week and how bad he thinks he needs him. Nancy don't have a game after that until the 31st of Jan which would be too late surely.
nicko Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Finnan is pushing for a move back to England, but there are big doubts about his injury problems. He hardly plays for Espanyol and is not getting any younger. Espanyol gave a mandate to an agent to sell him for £1.5 million. I don't think there will be takers at that price. A loan at the end of the month - if the 'money' targets can't be landed - is a possible. But there is a long way until then. On Beattie - he is going to Stoke. The stories about other clubs chasing him have come from Sheff U who are trying to push the price up. Beattie has already had his medical at Stoke. I don't see anyone paying the fee or his ridiculous salary [£40,000-a-week in the Championship]. On Bentley - his wages are huge and I think he has gone back a long way. Spurs would love to shift him but a Rovers return is a hard deal to pull off both for them and for the player's ego.
Stuart Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Nicko, someone - possibly you - mentioned that Sunderland were/are desperate to get rid of Diouf, yet Sam said in his press conference that he is "not available". Do you know what the story is on that one?

True or not though it was suggested that in an attempt to improve the clubs wage structure Bentley actually took a paycut to join Spuds?
Bobby G Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 It would be amazing if we get him back on loan...Whose interested in Bentley right now? He will never make it at the Big Four, as he lacks pace or even Villa. That leaves Spurs as the biggest of the rest, doesnt it? I doubt he will come back either.
philipl Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 True or not though it was suggested that in an attempt to improve the clubs wage structure Bentley actually took a paycut to join Spuds? He was on £20k at Rovers and went to £47k at Spurs. Rovers had offered £55k. If the various stories are true.
nicko Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Nicko, someone - possibly you - mentioned that Sunderland were/are desperate to get rid of Diouf, yet Sam said in his press conference that he is "not available". Do you know what the story is on that one? Diouf wants out, Sunderland would let him go at the right price. From what I hear Sam isn't interested in paying a big price for him - if any price at all.
Bobby G Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Offset by a signing on fee for sure. Nicko, did Sam see Diouf as a replacement for Roque or an addition to the squad? Cant you tell us any possible right wingers we are looking at, or passed up on?
DeadlyDirk Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 He was on £20k at Rovers and went to £47k at Spurs. Rovers had offered £55k. If the various stories are true. That's the sort of paycut we'd all love! I may have imagined it, can't find any links but sure I'm heard it somewhere. Besides considering Spuds would want to recoup the majority of the transfer fee and we gave half of it to Arsenal in the first place, to sign him we'd have to pay more for him than we receievd which simply isn't going to happen, unless there is some kind of sell on clause to swing things out way which we are unaware of.
Bobby G Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I doubt Spurs wouldve agreed to a sell-on clause on top of a 17 million pound deal!
Sysagent Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Nicko, the Manchester Mirror today mentions we are interested in Lauren is he the right back your saving for tomorrow ? Heh I hope we get him! That would mean my daughter would have a Rover's shirt with a legitimate player's name on the same as hers. ;D
Bobby G Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Nicko, is it true that Man City have moved in for Arshavin and have agreed a fee?
nicko Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Nicko, is it true that Man City have moved in for Arshavin and have agreed a fee? 'Moved in quickly' and 'agreed a fee' seem to be phrases foreign to Man City... I know they are still plodding along with the Bellamy thing and possibly a new Roque bid. Their big crisis is a new centre half after Arsenal did a U-turn on Toure. Shambles.
tonyoz Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Bentley..........if true, how the mighty are fallen! http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-21032674/
