Russ Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Hi Nicko, Do you remember way back in summer you told us of a right winger being watched, who Rovers bid for I believe, I think he decided to stay with the club for another season as he was still young or something? He was one you were quite excited about and rated very highly, you didn’t name him as you thought it could affect any future deal, which is fair enough. I just wondered if were still monitoring him? I figure our targets must stay the same, as it’s the scouts who pick out players, and they didn’t leave when Hughes and Ince left. Do you even remember who I’m on about?? Hope so as it would take a lot of trawling through old posts to find it again!! Ta
nicko Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Fernandez of Villarreal was the player. He hasn't had much of a season and could be shipped out. But I think the way Villanueva has struggled to adapt - and the fact there is a new manager - makes that one very unlikely now.
Bobby G Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Matias Fernandez is a brilliant young player. Damn....
Brfcrule1 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Bentley..........if true, how the mighty are fallen! http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-21032674/ have to say reading that article I have to chuckle imagine if he does go to Boro he will be another journeyman and it was inevitable it seems as tho boro are the end of the journey look at Mido at least he will have a friend up there
captainhaircut Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 The Daily Star is linking us with Alan Smith as a replacement for RSC. Could be lazy journalism but Big Sam loved Smith at Newcastle so the move could be on. Nicko, you heard anything about this?

herbergeehh Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Non-player, that's not the tag you want Mati Fernandez is a cracking player, but as mentioned we can't really carry anyone at the moment, and like Villanueva, he'd be lightweight and wouldn't provide enough defensively.
AJW Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 nicko , any progress on the midfield sitter big sam is looking for? , your info has been bang on so far, i remember you saying we were after a right back , a left sided defender (givet and chrietien) a mifield sitter ???? and possibly a right winger , maybe big sam will use emerton on right wing now ?
donis1410 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 has there been any more word on the lucash saga?
Russ Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Thanks, it was one those where curiosity had been eating away at me for sometime, didn't think you'd be able to name him still. I guess now is not the time for unprovens like him, maybe see where he's at in summer? He's the sort of player we need to take a gamble on though as we can't afford the finished article. On the other hand, taking him now on a loan with a view could work for next season, if he impresses he will be up to speed for the start of next season? Depends if our finances would allow I suppose, if wages weren't too much it would be worth a punt. Any idea how much Villareal would want for him? Fernandez of Villarreal was the player. He hasn't had much of a season and could be shipped out. But I think the way Villanueva has struggled to adapt - and the fact there is a new manager - makes that one very unlikely now.
Stuart Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Diouf wants out, Sunderland would let him go at the right price. From what I hear Sam isn't interested in paying a big price for him - if any price at all. Cheers. Surely Sam wasn't looking a Diouf on a free? And if he was allowed to go with no fee, he would have to be really bad news. I can still see this one happening though...
jny Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 damn.. was hoping the right back was Darijo Srna although he would never come to us
tony gale's mic Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 If Chrétien is a quality right back I don't mind paying £4 million for him. It'll allow us to use Emerton at both CM and right wing, although hopefully we'll get another right winger in before the window's end. If we do that I'll be pretty confident we have the players to survive. Then hopefully RSC will bang in the goals for us in the second half of the season and be attracting bids of £15 million + in the summer.
RoversSG Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Hi Nicko, is Givet coming in on a loan or is it a permanent signing? If it's to be a loan, any idea if there is a "to buy" clause in the summer or otherwise if he does well, someone else might get him.
EwoodGlory Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 2 from the Premier League and as many as you want from abroad.
92er Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 how many can we take on loan? I'm pretty sure people have said in the past that it is 2 from the Premier League and as many as you want from abroad. I don't know if the 2 includes players from other English leagues.
DeadlyDirk Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I'm pretty sure people have said in the past that it is 2 from the Premier League and as many as you want from abroad. I don't know if the 2 includes players fro other English leagues. Yep think that should be in a FAQ at the top of the thread, its been asked about 4 times in this thread!
Amo Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 So we aren't sniffing around any right-wingers then? I'd be more confident if Emerton was slotted in elsewhere.
Eddie Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Fernandez is a pretty brilliant player. Shame that one is dead.
Majiball Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Fernandez of Villarreal was the player. He hasn't had much of a season and could be shipped out. But I think the way Villanueva has struggled to adapt - and the fact there is a new manager - makes that one very unlikely now.
BuckyRover Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Ince was looking at Fernandez? Wow! His scouting was obviously working in some respect. Let us pray Sam doesn't sign Alan Smith instead
PAFELL Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Diouf wants out, Sunderland would let him go at the right price. From what I hear Sam isn't interested in paying a big price for him - if any price at all. Anelka - seems to be unhappy at Chelsea. Sam had him at Bolton I believe. any chance he would go back for him? Even a loan.
herbergeehh Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Unhappy? The Premiership's top goalscorer?
