While we do need creativity in midfield, I'm glad to see Sam adress our defense. Whether he's looking at Chretien and Givet to be able to push Emerton, Warnock or even Samba (DM) into more forward roles, or is looking to improve our defense I think it's the right move. We had conceded an astonishing number of goals, and that just won't cut it. We need to be better going forward too, but I agree with the philosophy of building from the back. One of the reasons being that it's a huge advantage to not concede the first goal in a game; a defensive-minded team will be in that situation less frequently.

I just hope that a right winger will be signed too; if that happens I'll be happy. A central midfielder would be needed as well really, but if we have Emerton available to play there alongside Dunn or Grella (If he comes good) I think we can take our time on that, and hopefully splash out on real quality there in the summer.

I'm not sure why Rovers need to shell out so much money for a right winger. Why hasn't anyone tried Pedersen on the right wing? He's right footed for crying out loud and he can shoot with his left, in theory he could be just what we need and not cost a penny. I'd say that Treacy is more than capable of taking up the left side of midfield.

Treacy is not good enough and doesn't look to me like he ever will be.

I think so too. Emerton has a decent engine and works hard for the team, but he doesn't have the quality that Bentley provided us. But Sam wants us to be difficult to beat first and foremost, so perhaps flair players will have to wait for now.

Why? If RSC goes Rovers would need a replacement. Big Sam would have money to spend. He knows Anelka having worked with him at Bolton., Anelka knows the prem and therefore would not need to adjust t it, and would work well with Bennie. He can also scores and creates goals. True his wage and price would be high, but if RSC goes!!!!!!!!Though if RSC stays, better still.

It was reported recently that he was not happy not being able to play upfront with Drogba. Also that he would consider leaving Chelsea if the situation remained as it was. He believes that he and Drogba would be able to make a good partnership - but the Chelsea manager does not think so. But after today's showing the manager may be right.

I think the point was there is no chance in hell Anelka would swap Chelsea for Rovers.

Your probable right in that - but where did he join Bolton from?

You can't seriously believe there is any remote chance Anelka would come here? :blink:

Fernandez is a good little player, shame we coudln't snag him in the summer, by now he could be adjusted and doing more for us than Villanueva (or, under Ince, he might have just flopped).

Impressed with where we're looking for signings and confident if we pick these players up we'll be fine.

I think Anelka is out of Big Sam's reach :P I don't think there will be too many surprising signings this window to be honest. Maybe in the summer.

No he is not a typical Rovers signing and of course it would not happen - sadly.
