The 11 o'clocker kicks off early...

The 'right-sided' target IS Ryan Taylor at Wigan. I understand there is interest, but Bolton are in there in a big way and Wigan don't want to lose him. I am not sure this will succeed.

Taylor is ok, takes a good free kick and can play several roles. He is on the left for Wigan just now but not really suited to that. His cost right now would be about £1 million...in the summer he is a free.

There are still a few right backs being watched, so that vacancy is still open.

Givet is in, looks fit and the deal is a loan...with a view to a £4 million deal. This guy could be a total snip as a loan signing. Shrewd business.

It would not surprise me if he figured pretty quickly.

Beattie is off the radar...there is another striker being looked into but as Roque has not gone yet I will keep that one up my sleeve...it's a name that was mentioned earlier in the season. Don't press on that.

Hearing that Sheff U may spend some of the Beattie money on Jason Brown. Watch that space.

So there are things moving and in a decent direction.

Stoke have signed a couple of journeymen, Hull are about to do the same with Boa Morte and Kilbane. Spurs can't get anyone and Newcastle are stuffed...Bolton are getting dragged into it too and don't seem to want to spend.

This could yet be a reasonable window for Rovers.

Nicko-----apologies if someone has already mentioned this guy but has anyone thought about resurrecting Nugent's career? He joined Portsmouth with a big reputation and an England cap and has been a total flop. He's a local NW lad, still young and worth a try at some point? If we lost Santa for 18M and got him for say 3M and got him back to form we would be laughing. Loads of money left over for other areas that need strengthening. Just a thought.

I'm not sure he's better than Derbyshire.

Yeh he can play several roles but he's not great in any of them . Takes a good free-kick I agree, but then what ? Let's hope Bolton get lucky on this one.

Thanks for the update nicko,

Taylor is a decent player, he may not be much better than we have but gives us a good option and strengthens the squad, he's versatile too. Definitely worth the price.

Brown to go wouldn't be a loss with Bunn showing promise and Robbo improving in my opinion.

The striker could be anyone but I'm sure plenty of people will have fun guessing, who wasn't brought up in the summer?

I wouldn't have minded Beattie at the price but not fussed either way, a decent deal for Stoke but nothing to shout about. He would only have been backup.

I've made a few jokes about them but its always good to see us signing a bit of young english talent as well, what's to lose on them bar a few grand?

Just a question, any development in the Roque saga, is it a case of them not wanting to pay so much because he is going to want high wages due to the clause and were under no pressure to sell?

we should definatly get ryan taylor in before we play newcastle-he always scores against them...

hes a decent player and to be able to play in different positions could help us in a big way..

would he want to leave wigan tho??-there looking pretty good at the moment..

Yes!! I guessed it would be Taylor

Good option for £1million and his versatility would come in handy with our players injury records.

Boa Morte could be a good signing for Hull imo. It looks like a lot of teams are going to find it hard to strengthen, which is good for us. I don't think our squad is actually as bad as 19th in the league suggests.

If we can get decent money for Brown then that's a bonus, Bunn looks safe.

Pretty happy that things are moving on, and I have a really good feeling about Givet. You don't play for France if you're crap (usually).

Just had a call from a City supporting mate, he tells me that City fans are angry at Rovers playing too hard with City over the £18m price tag and think they should be looking elsewhere !!!!

From the supporters meeting, one of their biggest concerns is the lack of away fans at their games. From being the best away supported team they are no longer in that bracket !!

They appear to be looking forward to being HUGHES-LESS by the end of February and the big money is looking like Mancini or Rijkaard.

Words of a City fan.....not mine

im feeling really good about givet and that zoro guy. looks like our defence is being shaped up real good. if we only could offload a few of the midfielders and get someone good in. i dont see the point in keeping all of andrews, grella, vogel, mokoena and reid. would rather have a real winger or a new kind of tugay. oh well heres hoping.

He would improve our set plays and is a decent option off the right side. Id be happy with him in the short-term for sure.

How quick is he though? Dont recall much if any pace! He did torment us in the 5-3 defeat IIRC.

So nicko have we made a move in for Taylor cause you said a move is being made!

Givet's purchase price seems a bit high, but I reckon he will slot in central defence, but instead of Nelsen? I cant see him displacing Warnock unless Warnock is imminently sold or moved to midfield.

Maybe we are just beefing up the squad.

Striker has to be a big fella. Could it be Janko?

I'm thinking Janko for the striker but then again there are probably quite a few names that have been linked with us previously.

As for Givet, good signing IMO but I am not sure how he will slot in straight away. I'm not sure that Big Sam would drop Nelsen, Samba or Warnock at the moment. The only possiblity would be giving Warnock a run further up the field. I am hoping though that he does break into the side and adapt well cos he can definitely do a good job for us at the back.

Ivica Olic just signed for Bayern Munich so can't be him.

Or as someone else said, perhaps moving Samba upfield, I think he could play there in a defensive role, certainly better than Mokoena.

Givet seems like a good signing and I like the loan try before you buy deal.

Just thinking of other strikers previously linked with us...Tresor Mputu???....Christian Benitez???

Anyway, whoever it is hopefully they are quality!

Benitez broke his leg before xmas, unlikely to be him!!
