Nonesense - Diouf is one of the most popular players with the staff and other players - he is one of the jokers of the dressing room.

£38k is alot for him...but we got him for something like £750k and he did a very important job for us last season. This season he hasnt been on fire but he has been nowhere near our worst performer.

At the moment there is still room for him...If we improve then it will be time for him to move on...and im sure there will be plenty of options for him, so it wont be a worry to Rovers that they 'cant' get him off the wage bill if they want too.

The first sign of disharmony was when Wolves scored their goal from a corner, clearly you could see Paul Robinson pointing his finger at Diouf somehow blaming him for the goal. One or two other players seemed to have their say towards him then I think it was Roberts who put his arm around him as the walked back to the half way line. Diouf didnt seem to take it too well that he was being singled out and if Roberts had not put a consoling arm around him I think Diouf could have created a very unsavoury situation.

Then its reported that Nelsen and Diouf had more than just a few exchanges of words at one of the last away game.

Then half time at home to Portsmouth, Diouf is reported to have been involved in a confrontation with a fellow Rover as they walked off.

If thats what getting on fine is with his reputation then fine for me though hes offers nothing to the team except disharmony.

:rover: i'm not a fan of emerton on the right wing, but he would do better than spit the waster :brfcsmilie:

He hasnt yet though has he...he's had a few games lately and not really sparkled as a winger.

I do agree Diouf should go soon - I just dont think we have anyone else to play out right yet!

This season, Not alot to be fair...although he is one of the few who can hold up a ball if we are in need of calming it down, he can also win free-kicks with ease and he seems to get the blackburn end going too - hes also scored 1 against Wolves.

Not alot I admit...but until someone shines out right id keep hold for now. Its up to others to keep him out of the team...abit like the aituation we have Keith Andrews.

Whilst Emerton hasn't lit up the right wing this season in his appearances there, he's done no less than Diouf. EHD was a great buy last season, when we desperately needed right-wing plugged by a capable player. I think we have to be looking for better if we wish to improve our position, though.

Agree the midfield is looking really threadbare at times, (although with Emerton coming back & if Grella ever gets fit the centre looks respectable). Diouf has added balance to the team. Poor as he's been this season he did add balance whereas everyone else who has played there has done nothing AND left the right back exposed. It's the best of a bad job situation again at rovers.

As for other options a few possibilities:

Holliet - he may see himself as a striker, but clearly his attributes lend him more to a wide position. Also more likely to stay if he's getting involved with games. Might be a step too far as yet, but the lad has potential.

Dunn - wouldn't be shackled defensively from a cm role, and if you had Chimbonda/Emerton bombing forward from right back, it'd add pace and energy to the wing.

Emerton - not great out there but he can do it. He's mediocre at best there, but if it was the kick up the backside Diouf needed to be dropped for a couple of games potentially worth it. Problem is we need Emo for a couple of positions.

Ok so none of them are great options, but currently could they do a worse job? Can remember when Hughes dropped Savage it was a huge kick up the backside he needed and he then went on to have some of the best form of his rovers career.

I'm going to hold my hands up on this one I think, I was wrong, Diouf offers us nothing going forward he should be offloaded in January.

In honesty I'd be in dreamland if we could sell Diouf, Pedersen and Andrews and bring back Bentley, maybe not practical in terms of numbers or money but God damn we could do with him.

when he gets the ball I wonder if it's in slow motion.. he's been slowing down attacks for the last 2 games.. hasn't really delivered anything all season.. Last season diouf did a lot and I still think overall that he can bring something to the team but he needs to be dropped.

I actually think our squad is okay in most areas. We've got a good defence (despite the scary amount of goals we leak away), an adequete core of central midfield players (N'Zonzi, Grella, Dunn, Andrews, Emerton), a potentially good front-line (McCarthy, Kalinic, Di Santo, Roberts... obviously a little hit and miss but the talent is there).

Our main issue is the wings. We struggle to play wide because we have players that are ineffective (MGP, Diouf), slow (MGP, Diouf), young/out of favour (van heerden, hoilett) or not productive enough (MGP, Diouf, Emerton).

I think Emerton can do a job on the right hand side, but we desperately need someone pacy to fill the gap that will be left by the potential departures of Diouf and MGP. I actually wouldn't mind Diouf staying here as a backup player, I just don't know if we can afford to keep him on his current wage simply as back up. If we need to sell him to bring in somebody of better quality (hopefully a decent left sided player) then so be it. It'll be hard though, considering the current market and our lack of financial muscle.

AND left the right back exposed.

I know you're not advocating playing Diouf. Just wanted to make a point about this comment.

I've watched EHD plenty times now and there are numerous times he seems to give up on tracking his man. I must stress, its not frequent in terms of times in match. But its happened in a good proportion of games. He almost cost us a goal against the Dingles and again on Sunday against Bolton. Simply by wandering away from his man. But its like he knows he's done it and can't be bothered to close him down before a cross comes in. I will accept mistakes but not sheer laziness. Warnock would often do the same but when realising he'd cocked up he'd make an effort to rectify the situation Diouf couldn't give a toss.

This big time player he thinks he is no longer exists. He left what flair he ever had at Liverpool a long time ago.

I know I've gone on about Diouf on here for a while now but I honestly am running out of patience with the man. He's got to be the most overated player we've ever had. Pele named him in the top 125 players on the planet, he wouldn't even get in my top 125 million. Has very average pace, average crosser of the ball and last beat his man about a decade ago. All for 40k per week.

We have no pace and no heart with MGP and Diouf. Which is why we need to get rid of them and others.

Otherwise, Amen.

Aye, I didn't mean that they had pace, just that in their departure we need to bring in the core attributes they lack (basically pace and a willingness to try and beat your man and/or put in a good cross).

You know what, this season I've noticed that a lot too. Another example you can add in is the Wolves goal this season, came from him not tracking his man.

What I was getting at was that last season everyone else playing there tucked in, leaving a big open space down our right flank down which the opposition could wander. Diouf when he came in stayed out on the right, and also last season he was pretty tenacious getting stuck in to the opposition. Thus last season, and potentially this season, he can add balance to the midfield.

I've noticed this season that he's worked far less hard defensively. Even though he's not getting stuck in he still stays out wide, not leaving an area of the pitch open. If Sam can have a chat with him and convince him to work as hard defensively as he did last season, then I'd be prepared to put up with him there till we get at least one wing sorted out.
