cletus Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I got rather irritated with Doofy today (stoke game) yes he had one or two good moves, but i don`t like the way he slows the game down. I like my wingers to knock the ball past a defender, beat the man & deliver a decent ball into the box......it`s exciting play & gets the fans off their arses! When the ball comes to Diouf, he always tries to be 'tricky'. He slows the game down to a walking pace & kinda poses with it. It`s very frustrating when he does it ALL the time. I don`t mind him doing it, but he`s got to vary his game. Take the man on FFS!! By the time he stops effing about & posing, the opposition have all got back into their correct positions & the attack is almost nullified. Today, Rovers needed to get round the back of the Stoke defence, but failed miserably

Backroom Tom Posted November 28, 2009 Backroom Posted November 28, 2009 One time in the second half today Chimbonda overhit a cross and it was going out of play on the far side but Diouf could have caught it if he tried, instead he jogged over then gave up, enfuriating stuff.

It's incredibly frustrating. If he truly thinks he's a balling handling wizard he's deluded, based on the number of times he loses it or let's the opposition set up. Alternatively, he's dumb as a box of rocks. Either way he needs to be gone.
alexanders Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 I actually think our squad is okay in most areas. We've got a good defence (despite the scary amount of goals we leak away), an adequete core of central midfield players (N'Zonzi, Grella, Dunn, Andrews, Emerton), a potentially good front-line (McCarthy, Kalinic, Di Santo, Roberts... obviously a little hit and miss but the talent is there). Our main issue is the wings. We struggle to play wide because we have players that are ineffective (MGP, Diouf), slow (MGP, Diouf), young/out of favour (van heerden, hoilett) or not productive enough (MGP, Diouf, Emerton). 100% agree with this post. Diouf and Gamt aren't what they used to be.
Ozz Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Out of curiosity, when meeting El Hadji Diouf, what does one call him? Hello El? 'Cos if that is the way, then it sounds like text speak for laugh out loud, and he may think one is taking the ######.

broadsword Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Holy freaking Moley, just checked on the official website, and apparently he was signed on a 3.5 year deal, that is incredible. On the fairly safe assumption no-one will come in for him, that means we're stuck with the bleeder for another 2.5 years. Someone pass the ethanol.

I'd love to hear a view from a Bolton fan on why he was so highly rated there. Apart from being the pantomine villain I see no reason as to why he has the reputation (tricky, effective winger/attacker) that he does. Zulu, anyone - why was he rated so highly at your club? He can't take on players, has no speed, crossing is average and he's poor at tracking back.

Today, Rovers needed to get round the back of the Stoke defence, but failed miserably This is spot on. Diouf isn't a bad player, he's just slower than a week in Barlinnie. He takes all of the tempo out of a move every time he gets the ball, and God knows we struggle to generate any sort of tempo at the best of times. It's exactly what made Duffer and Jansen so exciting. Diouf and Roberts just don't cut it.

He slows every attack down, he often cocks it up as well and his ego is obviously getting in the way at times. Having said that, second half at Bolton and in parts of the second half against Stoke, he was much better. He can do it, he often chooses not to.

They were quite shocked to see how much pace he has lost (though he wasn't lightning quick in the first place). I'd be also interested to hear Zulu's take on Diouf.
Backroom Tom Posted December 1, 2009 Backroom Posted December 1, 2009 Diouf was a good player at Bolton, the difference is he could take on a man then which he struggles with now. Well I presume he does but he doesn't try

Diouf was a good player at Bolton, the difference is he could take on a man then which he struggles with now. Well I presume he does but he doesn't try All of which was obvious 6 months ago. Unfortunately, the rest of the league can see how bad he is, he's likely to be on ridiculous money having come here from Sunderland, and as such he's here to stay and probably to play regularly. I would much rather see the team tweaked to put him on the bench for a while, surely Hoilett is going to offer more benefit with some pace - and perhaps playing him might encourage him to think about staying. He is unable to beat a man either on the inside or on the outside, and slows quick breaks down because of this. This flaw was quite badly exposed today, Tugay put EHD into acres of space a couple of times with great passes but the momentum was lost because Diouf chose to do some 360 degree pirouettes around the ball. Hopefully he'll regain some pace over the summer and return a more useful player next season ... but on current form Emerton will push him out of the side.
sweet Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 The fact that he could not get in the starting line of a very poor Sunderland side, says it all for me.
Backroom Tom Posted December 3, 2009 Backroom Posted December 3, 2009 I'll be fuming if he's back in for Saturday. After last night there should be a host of players in before him, hell I'd have Salgado on the right before him as he seems to be better running at people than Diouf.
Lathund Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Diouf would be the type of player we'd bring on late in a game to defend a lead, as he's good at not giving up the ball, and works very hard without the ball as well. Other than that, he just doesn't offer a whole lot. So many moves break down as he dwells too long on the ball. The people who pulled their hair out every time Emerton ran away from the touchline must surely have scalped themselves by watching Diouf?

He's better than MGP and he played last night.......
LeChuck Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 If we play two strikers with an attacking player behind them, then Pedersen or Diouf are a must for the left hand side. I wouldn't start either in a 4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1 type formation though, they don't offer enough attacking threat.
Backroom Tom Posted December 3, 2009 Backroom Posted December 3, 2009 Why? He's better than MGP and he played last night....... No Pedersen played well last night, I'd have him over Diouf any day
grizfoot Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Diouf doesn't have the defensive discipline to play as part of a midfield three in my opinion. Add to the fact he's not quick enough to make impact as a winger. It's hard to see where he's going to fit into the side unless we resort back to 4-4-1-1 in which it's a striaght fight between him and MGP for the left-sided midfield slot. He does put in some decent crosses though it's just he usually takes about half an hour to cross it in which time the opposition have got all their players back to defend it. I wish he was as quick in real-life as he is on Fifa, he'd be a much greater asset if he was.

I have a feeling you may be fuming then. Given 120 mins for most players last night - Sam will shuffle players around - we could even see he playing the role Benni did last night.
Backroom Tom Posted December 3, 2009 Backroom Posted December 3, 2009 Yup, in reality me and even 20,000 other people being annoyed wouldn't be an issue to the manager, Sam has a lot of self pride and will pick whoever he wants, it's a strong character trait but sometimes can lead to pig headedness.
Gav Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Nobody likes smart arse, but me and Waggy told you so......... The guy is a joke and disgrace, he should never have been allowed to the pull the shirt on in the first place.
