I don't think we have heard the last of Matt Jansen.

Even if he decides that his playing days are now behind him, I'm sure he is the type of guy to make it big as a coach, maybe even one day a manager.

Always seemed to have his head screwed on, except for the one obvious blip.

Matty I wish you well, thanks for the great memories.

You will never be forgotten by the fans and BRFC I hope.

Never forgotten.

In the least if he decides his playing days are up and wants to remain in football he should be offered a job even if it was just an amassador for the club.

I think its upkeep the professional image of the club, making a statement that Blackburn Rovers are a professional football club... rather than allowing old mates to come train still :)

I agree. If Sam doesn't see him as at least a potential squad player then it could be seen as a sympathy vote, and patronising to Matty, and that can't be good for the atmosphere. It's a shame but not really a surprise he hasn't managed a dream return.

Good luck Matt. You'd be a great ambassador for Blackburn Rovers.

Sad, given the fact that he was arguably suffering from confidence problems - I just hope that - like a few others here he does get a chance at another club - who knows what a few months of playing will bring....

All the very best Matt, don't give up on the dream ;)

It's like getting a puppy dog before Christmas and then in January ruthlessly dumping him out onto the streets.

Well actually it's not like that - I don't want to raise Gordon's blood pressure - but I do find myself agreeing with an earlier poster who said:

What difference does it make if he trains with us or not ?

Why tell him to leave ?

What harm was Matt actually doing training with us? It's not as if he was on some kind of lucrative contract with Rovers, being paid bundles of money.

I'm the first to complain about players who are overpaid, but Matt wasn't in any way being a financial burden on Rovers since he came back to the club. All he's been doing is a spot of training. Purely from a PR perspective I think Sam has made a bit of an error here. He could have said to Jansen: "You can train with us until the summer and then we'll reassess the situation then."

If by the summer Sam then wanted to say to Matt: "Thank you and goodbye," then few people would have complained as Matt would have at least had several months training with the club.

I fully accept that the chances of Jansen ever being able to play top-level football again are extremely slim. But at the same time I didn't see the harm in Matt training with the squad.

In recent years the PR from Rovers hasn't always been the best. Loyal servant Tony Parkes read about his sacking in The Sun newspaper. Nobody from within the club thought it might be a good idea to make sure that Tony was aware of the news first.

Matt Jansen is a popular and well-liked chap as we saw at the Hordens pub in November. From a PR perspective the news that he's no longer able to train with the club could have been handled a bit better in my view.

This is a bloody professional football club. And right now its still a premier league club. Where do you draw the line? Why not get Basil back in for a kick about?

Correct. I said as much here............

Maybe in hindsight that would have solved the misguided but obvious intention of providing some positive PR for Ince, helping out Matt Jansen whilst simultaineously keeping the attitude at Brockhall professional AND ultimately avoiding damaging and insinuating headlines now which somehow infer that we have been unfair toward him.

I agree with everything You say here. Nothing wrong with showing some sort of appreciation to former club hero's. And if all he asked for was a decent place to train, then go right ahead. But then again. Sam is not a Blackburn man yet. Prob trying to show, he's the boss now.

Thats ok i guess, but my heart still remember Matt.

Hey I wouldn't mind a kick about with the 1st team squad at Brockall every now and again either. Do I qualify? More than MJ I'd wager. I'm a lifelong supporter of BRFC, Matt isn't. I've put money into the coffers at Ewood for decades, Matt has only ever taken out. My football days are over just like Matty's...... Hey I'd better dubbin me boots and get myself down there, if only I could rem where they are.

BRFC is a professional football club and NOT a rest home for finished footballers! Being charitable MJ could train with AND help train the youth team and that should be our final offer!

Probably wont come to anything, but I have put a good word in for Matt with one of my old mates up here in Scotland who is presently Director of Football at a Scottish 1st Div club who are pushing very hard for promotion back to the SPL. They need a player that can turn in the multiple chances that they are creating and scorning at the moment. They cannot afford to pay anything like the sort of wages that Matt has been used to, but you never know he might just be willing to give it a go to restore his touch and confidence and can then expect to get much better offers elswhere at the end of the seaason.

  • Backroom

Sky Sports transfer pages are reporting that Carlisle have offered Matt a way back into football with them.. they have said he can train with them and see if he gets his appetite for the game back (much like Rovers did)

I hope this works out for Matty :rover:
