bats Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/main/s195/st145914.htm Jansen signs for Leigh Genesis
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 The Leigh stadium looks class for a team out of the football league. They certainly look like they are aiming for big things in the near future with a set up like that. Nice to see Flitty back involved in football. Good luck to him and Matt!
Ricky Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Isn't the goalkeeper mentioned also one of our ex players?? I'm sure I recognise the name Drench
jodrell Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Isn't the goalkeeper mentioned also one of our ex players?? I'm sure I recognise the name Drench yes just had a look on the players profile Former England Schoolboys international goalkeeper Stephen Drench began his career with Blackburn Rovers, joining then-Conference National side Morecambe on loan during the 2005/06 season, before signing permanently for the Christie Park outfit during the summer of 2006.
Blue blood Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I know he's been out of the game a while, but I reckon that Matty will be immense at that level. Even if he has retained only a fraction of his former brilliance it'll be far too much for that level. Interesting to see Flitty in management, I thought he would be far too hot-headed. (Although I guess the same could be said for Souness who was a reasonably successful manager.) Looks like Leigh mean business with the type of set up they're talking about.
Tris Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Looks like Leigh mean business with the type of set up they're talking about. According to rumours on Leigh Centurions (RL) messageboard ... Rovers fans could be following Matty and Drench to get a closer look at Leigh Sports Village next season.
Mc Love Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Looks like a decent set up alright..best of luck Matty and Gar
Tris Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 According to rumours on Leigh Centurions (RL) messageboard ... Rovers fans could be following Matty and Drench to get a closer look at Leigh Sports Village next season. The move to Leigh for home reserve games has been confirmed by Rovers. Official site
AggyBlue Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 The move to Leigh for home reserve games has been confirmed by Rovers. Official site Yeah, looking forward to it, I'll be able to make a lot more games there as it's only about 15 mins away.
Riversider Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Leigh Genesis are playing at Clitheroe Tuesday 7:45 KO. Matty has started the last three games for Leigh so hopfully he'll be in the starting line-up.

Quite enjoyable on occasions watching footy at this level.
Riversider Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I went to watch the game on Tuesday at Clitheroe. What a great advert for non league football, Clitheroe were excellent but ended up losing to two dubious late penalties in the dying minutes. Matty played the full 90 minutes and had a good game and showed some nice touches but seems to have lost a bit of pace. If anyone is short of a game to watch when Rovers aren’t playing I would highly recommend a visit to Shawbridge.
DeadlyDirk Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 The legendary Jansen on BBC discussing his career. What I'd give to see him a player like him playing for us now, even Jansen himself would probably still score as many as our current strikers
67splitscreen Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 There was a program a week or so ago over here in Thailand, it's on in between games every week, you know the stuff, ex Premiere league players, what are the doing now. It was a 15 minute slot on Flitty at leigh and of course Matty. Wonder if they will appear in the corridors of Ewood in the future.
BPF Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 How interesting, he trades Foreign Currencies for his main living now.
Exiled in Toronto Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 He says he's moved on but I'm not sure he has. It's 8 years ago now and, unlike many people who suffer illness or accident, he still has all his faculties and presumably a good wedge in the bank, so my sympathy ran out some time ago. Time he changed the record methinks

Time he changed the record methinks When you have the potential to be England's next star, and the same ability Matt had/has, to lose that all and have a life threatening accident is a tough pill to swallow. Matt was great for Rovers and he deserves all the credit, many people could have given up at the 1st hurdle, but he didn't he carried on and tried his best to resurrect his career, but failed. He'll always be a legend in my eyes and same with majority of the Rovers fans. Time you showed the lad some respect for what he's been through.

Totally agree and a great lad to boot, met him once at an 100 club dinner, great lad!!"

Same but for me the sad thing is it was all so avoidable, hiring a moped in a foreign city is never a good idea in my book. He made a silly mistake and it came back to bite him big time luckily he got away wth his life. Still he'll always be a legend in my eyes, one hell of an entertainer as well
Hughesy Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Leigh quit sports village, Flitty resigns & Jansen might be next
