Exiled in Toronto Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Time you showed the lad some respect for what he's been through. Newsflash: 8 years ago a talented football player foolishly rides moped around Rome, Rome ffs, and ends up having to retire early. Stop the world. How long would you prefer that I weep and wail? Another 8 years? 18? He's had more than enough sympathy in that time; I'll use mine on the millions of people in Haiti whose lives really have been ruined thank you.

So you only have a limited supply of sympathy, a bit like your wages then? Matty is still, and will always be, a legend.

If you're going to take everything in that content, we may as well not bother discussing anything on here.
Kelbo Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Leigh quit sports village, Flitty resigns & Jansen might be next Atherton LR will be a culture shock to Matty if he stays, not the best playing surface in the world, very old stand, yet a nice club, good clubhouse and very hospitable!!
hollowsr Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 No real surprise after hearing Flitty at the evening a few months back. Basically saying no money at the club and people going unpaid. Sure he will get another job after the good job he has done there, think Jansen may go with him wherever he goes.
broadsword Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I'm sorry for Matt that his career was ruined, but he could've easily have been killed in that accident. He should count his blessings rather than live in the past. That his career was shortened is regrettable, but there are far worse things that can happen to you in this world. I wish him all the best, but he does need to move on.

There is a strong rumour around these parts that Flitty could be interested in buying Chorley fc lock stock and barrel!
thenodrog Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Leigh quit sports village, Flitty resigns & Jansen might be next Haven't we just announced the reserves will be there again next season? Will that arrangement be affected?
hollowsr Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Haven't we just announced the reserves will be there again next season? Will that arrangement be affected? No it won't as the deal is with Leigh Sports Village and not the club, the club said they were moving a while back now.
Alan75 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Edit: Stupid question, ignore me please. Who said that
Amo Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Haven't we just announced the reserves will be there again next season? Will that arrangement be affected? You're certainly asking the right man.
tony gale's mic Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I'm sorry for Matt that his career was ruined, but he could've easily have been killed in that accident. He should count his blessings rather than live in the past. That his career was shortened is regrettable, but there are far worse things that can happen to you in this world. I wish him all the best, but he does need to move on. Surely turning his talent to something which is completely different to football (ie foreign currency trading) is moving on about as much as is possible? Yes he tried for ages to get games with clubs because he loves the game so much and even tried at the lowest level when other players would have given up, but he also trained himself up in something different as he knew it was a long shot. I'm sure he does count his blessings he survived but there'll always be a part of him that is sad about what happened that day. You always compare yourself to your peers - if you miss out on a job you were desperate to get and feel really down about it for a while, it's hardly valid for someone to come up to you and say "cheer up, there's people who can barely eat in Africa" is it? He's a top man, stands for everything that footballers should stand for and I think the way he's handled himself since the accident has been excellent.
broadsword Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Well yes, he has moved on insofar as he's changed his career. He's still looking back though and wondering what might have been. Maybe that will always be there, but I'm not sure going over old ground is really helpful to him. What's done is done.
