67splitscreen Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I think Newcastle will be safe too - with the likes of Martins, Owen etc they have some talent that could just spark a mini-revival. While they have some tricky ties, I also think they have a few very winnable games - HOWEVER If they lose at stoke - then they are in real trouble. A draw I would think will be quite gentlemanly for all.

CAPT KAYOS Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I think the break point/deciding factor could well be the 9th May results depending upon how they go (also the Champions)- when we play Pompey Saturday, 9 May 2009 Arsenal v Chelsea Blackburn v Portsmouth Bolton v Sunderland Everton v Tottenham Fulham v Aston Villa Hull v Stoke Man Utd v Man City Newcastle v Middlesbrough West Brom v Wigan West Ham v Liverpool And my predictor thingy upto this point if it counts for anything 1.MU 80 2.LPOOL 77 3.CHELSKI 76 4. ARSE 67 5. EVE 57 6. AV 56 7. SPURS 48 8. FUL 45 9. WIG 44 10. MC 43 11. WHAM 42 12 BOL 40 13. STO 39 14. PORT 38 15. HULL 38 16. SUN 37 17 ROV 37 18. BOR 33 19. NEW 32 20 WBA 30
Hughesy Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Whats with the massive blank space at the end - Is that were teams go to if they get relegated? Id be very, very suprised if 34 points is enough to stay up - this is the point of the season where those at the bottom start picking up points all over the place.
T4E Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 All those that see the point in this, say AYE. All those that don't, say NAY. NAY NAY The thing that strikes me the most is all the people saying "I was quite pessimistic about our results and we still finished well clear". Its all relative - how pessimistic were you when judging the results Newcastle/Boro/Hull/Stoke etc?
philipl Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 One way to do the predictor thing is to be mechanical about it. If you set rules of: Every club currently 12th down playing another 12th down at home wins 1-0 A 12th down club playing a 6th to 11th at home draws 0-0 A 6th to 11th playing a 6th to 20th at home wins 1-0 A 1st to 5th beats everybody 1-0 home or away except when playing another 1st to 5th when the home team wins 1-0 Except when a club drops out of the title race but is safely in CL or the title race is won in which case a relegation-threatened opponent wins 1-0 and I gave Newcastle a win at Spurs to reflect Kinnear coming back. It produces a bottom of: 12 Pompey -15 44 13 Bolton -14 43 14 Rovers -16 42 15 Hull -19 42 16 Stoke -20 40 17 Sunderland -13 39 18 Newcastle -14 39 19 Boro -24 34 20 West Brom -32 31 Rovers are not safe until the last day and Arsenal and Villa being neck and neck for 4th on the last day sends Newcastle down.

Some definite decisive fixtures.
TimmyJimmy Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Forget the predictor stuff, it's always going to be the way that you get the result you want. If the trend is going the wrong way you get more positive with the chances of winning, if things are trending the right way then we get more relaxed and add a few generous 'bad' results so we feel more 'realistic'. End result is always the same, you get to the position that you want to be in. There's no cure for this, that's how 'magicians' do their thing, they use our desires against us. My predictor is just blind faith, we will stay up because I want us to. It'll be a rough ride, I think Newcastle will survive also. Rovers will stay up. Keep saying it because nothing else will help you sleep at night, certainly not predictors.

Hughesy Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Newcastle received a blow yesterday - after Duff picked up a hamstring injury and will be out for 2-3 weeks.
T4E Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Wouldn't be surprised to see Duffer back with us next year if they go down and we stay up.
jim mk2 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Wouldn't be surprised to see Duffer back with us next year if they go down and we stay up. Another ageing injury-prone player in a squad already full of them ? No thank you.
T4E Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Not a big fan of the idea either jimbo, but he's got "Allardyce signing" written all over him.
rover6 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Yeah, it'll be like the return of Stephane Henchoz but with the addition of hope for the slaughter. At least no-one expected anything from Henchoz's return - in fact, I don't think the fans were too aware that he returned. Watching Duff prattle around like a midget Keith Gillespie is too depressing.
Hughesy Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Na duffer isnt a big sam type signing. It will be interesting to see who sams targets for next season. The list of those very likely to be leaving is growing all the time - Ooijer (confirmed), Mokoena (confirmed), Simpson, Villanueva, Brown (Out of Contract), Gallagher, Santa Cruz
roversmum Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Of course we should sign Duffer. Dunny and Reidy must be getting fed up with each other's company, Duffer will give them a different face in the treatment room
John Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 It'll be a rough ride, I think Newcastle will survive also. Rovers will stay up. Keep saying it because nothing else will help you sleep at night, certainly not predictors. I actually had nightmares before Paul Ince joined, and sadly his reign turned out to be a nightmare. The past couple of months I have been having sleepness nights at the prospect of going down. Have to say that I have not enjoyed this season. If it goes down to the wire (which looks likely at the moment), think I will struggle to handle the pressure.
waggy Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 bloody shearer,he just may have what it takes to get the barcodes out of trouble,a piont on saturday is the least we need
AggyBlue Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 bloody shearer,he just may have what it takes to get the barcodes out of trouble,a piont on saturday is the least we need I've listened to him on MoD. I'm not worried
gazsimm Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I've listened to him on MoD. I'm not worried he might get the forwards playing well, but i think the defence might shearer's weak link!!
Backroom DE. Posted April 2, 2009 Backroom Posted April 2, 2009 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...icle2355630.ece The Sun still predicted Newcastle to go down.... strange thing is they don't even consider us a part of the relegation battle

Flopsy Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I think the press, although not liking Sam as a person, rate him as a manager
Backroom DE. Posted April 2, 2009 Backroom Posted April 2, 2009 The press and even many opposition fans don't seem to consider us real relegation candidates, despite our position and weak squad. It's comforting, I suppose, but I still think we'll be right in there come the end of the season.
gumboots Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Looking at that final table prediction I think they've just forgotten we exist. Anyone hear what Dunny had to say on Talksport this morning? I arrived at work before he came on
bazza Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 The fact that the press and the media in general never mention us when talking of relegation candidates scares me witless. They are not even saying the usual "too good to go down". Not a peep. Scarey!! Can Nicko throw any light on this?
