Do I detect a bit of prematch hysteria on here. a bit like fiddling while Rome burns or the prisoner eating a hearty breakfast? Frankly I'm scared stiff and won't relax till we've scored at least 3 goals, and even then I'll not be really happy.

Hopefully Newcastle will lose, and then that would more or less leave them down. Or at best waiting until the last game to discover their fate. That result would also allow Sunderland to breathe ever so slightly easier. Unless there is a freakishrun of results, we are safe, and the only teams in danger are Hull and possibly Sunderland.

However, I expect one of Boro or Newcastle to at least have a chance of swapping places with Hull. Shame, as I would like Hull to stay up.

Yep, since we're basically home and dry we should be willing Hull to stay up at Newcastle's expense. You get the feeling that Newcastle will at least sort things out with the money they have and be a little better next season, whereas Hull will be dead certs for the drop next season.

Plus nothing would satisfy me more than to see the Geordies go down.

Interesting little snippet from yesterday, opinion seems to be that unlike many other teams who recognise the drop is always on the cards each season and therefore negotiate pay cuts in their player contracts should that happen, Newcastle have not. So if they go down then their wage bill will kill them stone dead and they will probably do a Leeds/Charlton/Southampton and drop off the radar for good. Magic. Such arrogance, we are Newcastle and we won't go down so we don't bother with that stuff.

Unfortunately as I've posted before I believe Newcastle will escape the drop so we'll not see that particular chicken come home to roost, nice thought though.

For me the third place for the drop is between Middlesbrough and Newcastle, I believe only one will go down as they have to play each other. Sorry Middlesbrough but its you. WBA and Hull being the other two.

If Pompey beat Newcastle tonight, then even IF the barcodes beat Boro it still may not be enough to keep them up... especially if Hull or Sunderland win any of their remaining four games, as that effectively means Newcastle would have to win all of the games they have left.

My head is saying a Newcastle win, my heart is saying a Pompey win.

Really went Pompey to win this one, it would keep the geordies in the sticky brown stuff and make Pompey safe, which could make our game against them a little bit easier.

If Newcastle can't show a bit of fight for the match tonight then they will surely go down. One of the biggest games in their history.

Hopefully they will show lots of fight, and then still not win. That will be even more dispiriting!
