gumboots Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Hopefully they will show lots of fight, and then still not win. That will be even more dispiriting! True and if they scored a few goals and still didn't win it would be even better.

Backroom DE. Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 I suppose, but a lack of fight would turn the crowd against them, which could be even better, especially considering they need to win their home games. If they perform poorly tonight the crowd could get on their backs very quickly in the next couple of matches, negating any positive effect they might have had.
LeChuck Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I know we all want Newcastle to go down badly, but surely a draw is a better result for us? Barring a disaster we are going to stay up, and we should really be looking to finish as high up the league as possible because that £750k per place prize money could be invaluable in the summer. A Portsmouth win would make it hard for us to overtake them, whilst a draw would keep them within striking distance whilst still keeping Newcastle relatively far behind.
CrazyIvan Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I'd take a 0 - 0 tonight as the best result we could hope for. No goals, Pompey nearly safe and Newcastle no where near it. A 0 - 0 gives the fans very little to cheer about. Take a look at this link and the poll that's going on at the same time next to it, 72% think Geordies will go down at the moment... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ted/8020415.stm
Backroom DE. Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 A draw is the best result for us, but I've already said that in another thread. Fact is Newcastle can afford nothing less than a win, which is massive, massive pressure.

Wouldn't it be funny if they started singing 'You don't know what you're doing' to Shearer

True but there's a chance that, given a few wise signings in the summer with the money they have and the money they could raise from sales, Newcastle could potentially finish above us next season. It's not probable but still a definite possibility. However if Hull stay up at Newcastle's expense, they're definitely dead certs for the drop next season and should the worst come to the worst and we get dragged into the mess next season, one place should be taken care of.
bennyboyt11 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 The more I think about it the more I can't understand why Shearer took the Newcastle job... Just seems a lost cause
tony gale's mic Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 The more I think about it the more I can't understand why Shearer took the Newcastle job... Just seems a lost cause He probably took a look at their relatively easy run in. Send them down and the last guy gets blamed. Keep them up and he's even more of a hero. But really, if they go down with Hull and Sunderland doing so poorly, a lot of the blame will have to be attached to Shearer considering the amount of winnable games in there.
Backroom DE. Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 The more I think about it the more I can't understand why Shearer took the Newcastle job... Just seems a lost cause It's a win-win situation for him. If he keeps him up, he's even more of a hero than before. If he doesn't, nobody will blame him because the fans will first and foremost blame the team and the owners (which is fair, as both have been substandard this season for them). He also gets a taste of footy management in the highest league which will stand him in good stead for when he decides to take on a fulltime vacancy.
waggy Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 we should be able to get the remianing 3 pionts needed from our last 4 games, and i have a funny feeling hull will go down.that means either boro or the barcodes will be safe, would love it to be the geordies.i will be suprised if the relagated teams get above 37pts

waggy Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Do you still want us to go down Waggy? when have i ever said i want us to go down
Silencio Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 when have i ever said i want us to go down Sorry, just winding you up. Your comments on the Wigan result deserve it though. Why don't you just give it a rest re Allardyce? Ince has gone, we'd have been down ages ago with him in charge...
Backroom DE. Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 To be fair, arguing you'd rather have Ince over Allardyce is basically saying "I would rather we got relegated".
waggy Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 To be fair, arguing you'd rather have Ince over Allardyce is basically saying "I would rather we got relegated". i'd rather have maggie thatcher than lardarse
Backroom DE. Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 Would you rather see us relegated than us having Allardyce in charge? Simple question.
waggy Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Would you rather see us relegated than us having Allardyce in charge? Simple question. no
Silencio Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Would you rather have Ince (ie relegation) or Allardyce?
gumboots Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 The answer to that one is obvious but I still wish that choice hadn't been what it came down to.
Backroom DE. Posted April 27, 2009 Backroom Posted April 27, 2009 Fact is Waggy, if you are saying you would have preferred Ince to Allardyce you ARE saying you'd rather we were relegated. There is no way he would have got us out of the mess we were in. Like it or not, Allardyce was the man to get us out of our predicament, and he has nearly done it. If/when he does you should be grateful, regardless of what you think of him personally.
Billy Castell Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Our Geordie friends are utterly convinced that we will go down with Allardyce in charge next season. Don't think so.
Gus Gus Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Our Geordie friends are utterly convinced that we will go down with Allardyce in charge next season. Don't think so. IF we go down next year it will almost certainly be due to lack of dosh and not due to Sam. But making that point to a Newcastle fan would be like repeated smashing your face into a brick wall at high velocities.
thenodrog Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Wouldn't it be funny if they started singing 'You don't know what you're doing' to Shearer I'd imagine that Sam would luv it! Just luv it if that happened.
