gumboots Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 The usual Fair Play table joke! How exactly Arsenal, Chelea, Liverpool and the Mancs show greater respect to officials and opponents than we do is completely beyond me! Look on the bright side. we're not bottom. Days like Sunday when the ref was sensible and kept his cards in his pocket, although there were one or two incidents that perhaps merited a booking, are great.
roversmum Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Which only goes to prove, as you say Philip, the whole thing is a joke - in fact it's more than that it's an abomination... How I long to see fair and consistent refereeing. I also can't remember when our players did not show the referee respect, they rarely surround him and make a fuss as some do *eg Chelsea...*! Mind you, that glare Diouffy gave Sunday's referee after he'd been flattened by a Wigan player would have had a lesser man rushing for counselling!

riverside returns Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 agree with tony gale, another 7 days and the nail could be in place and ready to hammer home in a metaphorical sense.

Ray-Von Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Villa will have a massive say in who stays/goes by the looks of things - although they haven't won in about 12 games.
CrazyIvan Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 How many people who have used the BBC's predictor system have the scores the way they have been or the league positions the way they are now? I'm just curious, it's not meant as any kind of dig. I just wonder how close anybody has actually got. It'd be interesting to plumb in peoples predictions for the final games (specifically for the bottom 6-8) and see who gets closest.

Stoke the only result I got wrong. I think we'll get 41 now.
Ricky Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I had our points tally spot on, although I had some of our results the wrong way round. Here's what I predicted in terms of w/l/d Cant remember what I predicted the scores to be Hull D Everton W Fulham L Arsenal L West Ham W Spurs W Liverpool L Stoke D Wigan W Man City L Pompey W Chelsea L West Brom W
Lurid Coat Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 How many people who have used the BBC's predictor system have the scores the way they have been or the league positions the way they are now? It'd be interesting to plumb in peoples predictions for the final games (specifically for the bottom 6-8) and see who gets closest. This is what I predicted a little over a month ago: Just had another go at the BBC table predictor. Bottom nine: 12 Bolton 43 13 Stoke 43 14 Blackburn 42 15 Portsmouth 41 16 Hull 39 17 Sunderland 37 18 Newcastle 36 19 Boro 34 20 WBA 25 Had us winning against Wigan, Pompey and WBA Drawing against Stoke and City Losing against Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea Not entirely correct, but I think we might be able to pick up 5 or 6 more points.
leftfooter Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 If Pompey lose to Arsenal and we lose to City on Saturday, with a point for each likely to be enough to secure Premier League status, expect to see 2 teams with 10 men behind the ball watching James and Robinson booting it to each other for 90 minutes at Ewood Saturday week. Oh and Rovers will miss a sitter in the 90th minute. Too many twists and turns yet. A point should - barring freak results - see us virtually safe, but don't expect us to be mathematically safe going in to the WBA match even. Hopefully WBA still have something to play for, as the last thing we need is a relegated Baggies coming to Ewood with the pressure off and determined to enjoy their last hurrah in the top flight. Hull will beat Stoke at home, (not scientific, but it's almost an unwritten law of football that it will happen - just like it was a foregone conclusion that S'land would lose at the Hawthorns) and the question then is where they will scrape another point from? The key game of course is Boro v Toon. Boro on their day have some decent footballers and can on occasions raise their game; they just lack consistency. Newcastle are plodding and unimaginative. Events should conspire for Newcastle to beat Fulham but I see Boro getting something at St James Park. In fact of all the teams below us Boro are the most worrisome. They will get something (I predict a win 3-2) against a jaded Man U at the Riverside and the pressure is then on! Totally unscientific and hope we get something at COMS, but there are greater forces at work here and that's my gut feeling. Expect a bumpy ride.
philipl Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Certainly was unscientific. Defeats for Boro and Newcastle against big 4 opponents put us within 4 points of mathematical safety on Saturday. Or Rovers will probably be 9 points ahead with 3 games left if we win at Eastlands.
Guest Kamy100 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Great to see optimism on here but this is still not over, we should be ok if we pick up 2 further points, but I will not rest easy until it is mathametically impossible for us to get relegated, this season has seen so many twists and turns.
47er Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I'd be surprised if we won at City. Happy with a draw but reconciled to a loss.
brfcs5359 Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 The season will be defined by the Hull Stoke result I think. If Hull win it will be clear who's going down.
Hughesy Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 We should pick up a point on saturday, maybe even 3... we shall see!
thenodrog Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Anyone else find this picture hilarious? 1. Freddie Shepherd. 2. Sam Allardyce. But hey lets not count chickens eh?
Hughesy Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 The way I saw it prior to the Villa game was that it was our hardest home game left. Every other home game we should be capable of taking points in. Keep the faith lads. We're definately going down after today. Can not see us getting even close to 40 points, I doubt we'll get 35. Dooms day proven wrong by Sam. There was an element of fight (as far as i could tell from computer screen) in last night's performance, which is of some comfort. I just can't see us winning enough games. Next Dooms day soon to be proven wrong by Sam. We should really break this down. Games we should really be targetting a win, where it will most hurt. Games we should be able to get something, and then finally games where its difficult and even a point is a great result. Games we need to really need to target a win - Spurs (3), Stoke (0), Pompey, West Brom. Games we can get something: Fulham (3), West Ham (1), Wigan (3), City Games where anything is a bonus: Arsenal (0), Liverpool (0), Chelsea Iv not been too far off with my targets - We are currently 1 point ahead of schedule.
thenodrog Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I'd be surprised if we won at City. Happy with a draw but reconciled to a loss. Don't want to jinx anything but I had this down some time ago as one of our easier matches in the run in. City blow warm and cold so if we shackle Ireland, set about em and as they have nothing to play for we could banish our relegation worries untill at least next August.
brfcs5359 Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Anyone else find this picture hilarious? Reminds me of Delia at Norwich... Didn't work their either.
