BuckyRover Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Try cancelling setanta it has took me aroung 8 months and the threat of legal action to cancel the subscription, drove me mad. You are not the only one. Absolute jokers. I am delighted they have lost out to Sky.
Derby Blue Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Setanta though will still have the FA Cup and England games as well as the Saturday evening prem matches to try and keep viewers. Surely they will have to drop the subscription prices just to keep their viewers. If they don't, it will be interesting to see how they justify keeping the prices at a £12 a month or whatever it is these days. Not sure off the top of my head how much less they will be paying for prem football but that must cut the cost to the viewer. No doubt sky will put their prices up as well......
1864roverite Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I really wouldnt be too concerned because at this rate it wont effect Blackburn Rovers. After todays game we will be ensconced in Division 1 if we cannot make any improvements
Ninjathunder Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I get Setanta bundled into my Virgin Media XL TV package so have no complaints from a cost perspective and prefer it to Prem Plus. The coverage is a little lame, though wouldn't want to go back to the days of George Graham sat staring at me when the other bloke next to me was talking. It was bloody weird, that.
67splitscreen Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 No doubt the trustee's will be looking forward to the two years parachute payments.
philipl Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 From Advanced Television: The second round of bidding for pay-TV rights of Premier League saw Sky secure one of the two remaining TV packages to air live games from 2010 to 2013, meaning it will have one more and Setanta one less than under the current deal. Setanta took the remaining package in the auction that netted the Premier League a total of £1.78 billion (E2.03bn), the same as it did for the current deal, which expires at the end of the current season. Last week Sky paid more than £1 billion for four packages of 92 prime live matches, making its total payout £1.62 billion for five out of the six available packages. The two packages auctioned consist of 23 games each, taking BSkyB to a total of 115 live matches per season from 2010 to 2013, while Setanta paid £159 million for the last package. Setanta secured two packages in the last Premier League deal for a total of £392 million. The other bidder, left empty handed, was ESPN rumoured as a buyer of Setanta last year. ESPN said: "We can confirm that we did bid for Premier League rights and we are therefore disappointed in the outcome. But we were pleased to be at the table and we would like to congratulate Sky and Setanta."

So Setanta have roughly 1 game every other week, be interesting to see what they do about their subscription charge, can't see anyone playing the £10/£12 charge or whatever it is now depending on your package for a game every other week. Sure they have some German games etc but surely it's the premiership that the majority of subscribers pay the money for.

Sure they have some German games etc but surely it's the premiership that the majority of subscribers pay the money for. Hanging onto the FA Cup and England games becomes desperately important for them. That said, failing to get the cameras to the dingles v West Brom game last week frankly means they damn well deserve to lose the FA Cup. Their coverage this coming week-end absolutely stinks as well.
philipl Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 Setanta are paying far less for the sixth package than I had anticipated so the growth in media income is going to be much less than I had suggested. Setanta are also trying to renegotiate the outcome.
