It remains for me the worst of Blair's many awful legacies that he sacked Field after just a few short months of their first term in office . With the backing of a less shallow PM Field could have rivalled Bevan in the ranks of great social reformers . Sadly it will never be ; the current PM is just as short sighted as his predecessor .

Blair* is not that thick Phil! The first rule of management .......... Never promote somebody who is better than yourself! btw when I said Blair is not that thick I was of course referring to Cherie.
