And Hughesy what makes you think that someone who is on the verge of a lucrative Bosman move would sign an incentive based contract with his current club?

Because he's a humble, decent bloke and is settled living in Manchester?

Ped's doesn't seem like a player whose main focus is the next big pay day.

Fair do's Champions league football is appealing but in my opinion I think he would rather stay with the club he knows and has grown to love?

Premier league football or Turkish Footy? - I know which 99% of players would probably choose

Like Arran said - factor in your lifestyle, where your already settled etc....

He might decide its time for a change but if thats the case, why hasnt he already signed a pre-contract elsewhere?!

I maybe wrong but I think pre contracts can only be signed if the club you are moving to is not in the same league as the one you are in.

Morten has his Manchester life style and his famous footballing buddies over there. I cant see him swapping that for Turkey. He aslo hates playing against players who tackle at neck height and then beat you up in the tunnel after the match anyway

The way I see it is simple.....we have Andrews, Roberts & Reid that I would rather see leave before him (Although Reid does still have time to prove himself).

If we tie him to a new deal for say 3 years then at least we have protected an asset and if he has another purple patch we could sell him for decent money......The new deal also should be highly incentive based!

Reid & MGP to stay. MGP has found his preferred role playing deeper rather that out wide.

Sam has said he'd like MGP to stay and I think MGP would like to stay but you can't blame the lad for weighing up his options, he'd be a fool not to. I would like to see him in a Rovers shirt next season though. I would be gutted if he went to one of our competitors.

I think as soon as another club makes contact Rovers will sit him down and talk to him. At this moment in time we are seeing what additions we can make to the squad so MGP is not the priority.

I'm not sure about England, but in the SPL a player can defintely pre-sign with a rival club (Hearts just pinched Darren Barr from Falkirk).

I'm a bit too cynical to think a player would accept an incentive-based deal when a flat rate was available elsewhere, regardless of how settled he is.

It´s a very difficult situation. Morten has played well but it´s all because his new role. The same role we just brought Bastürk in. Selling under £1,5M would be very stupid but there is always possibility getting none money of him. Other hand he hasn´t earned better money contract and maybe he won´t sign new one with the same wage than now. He is no use as a winger and I am wondering why Ibricic can´t be signed without selling MGP. Olsson though has been very good there. I have a feeling MGP will be with us and given new deal.

:rover: 3 good games does not redeem him from 3 bad seasons, let him go :brfcsmilie:

Waggy,

Remember that poor full back we once had, Pickering, turned into a CF?

Remember the Youth team Centre back Keith Newton, became England left back?

Remember Campo the Centre back too slow for the prem and turned into a decent midfielder, Martin Dobson released at Bolton as a Striker and played in Englands Midfield, the lists are endless where a player has switched positions and come good (Henry a non scoring winger, became a top striker) it happens and in my opinion, I think Pederson will continue to thrive in that role, time will tell, but thts my opinion, the options are 'pot luck'

I'm still of the opinion that he isnt deserving of a new contract.. he's been terrible for 3 years since he signed a new deal.. and I hope people dont start to use his shift in position as an excuse for an improvement in form.. even his corners have improved now that he needs a new contract.. if he does sign a new contract, which is looking unlikely according to Nicko, mark my words he'll go back to being the same player he's been for the past 3 years

Apparently, he wants out. I'd offer him a new contract but on the same terms he's on now. He's been rubbish for the last few years but I can't think of a good enough replacement for him. Even though he had a rubbish season last year, he chipped in with 9 assists, which is quite impressive.

He is starting to look like the Gamst of old, maybe keep him until the end of the season and see what his performances are like and offer him a deal if it's worth it.

I wouldn't offer him a new contract. But if I were to offer a contract, it would have a very small weekly salary with incentive bonuses to make up the difference.

I would agree if we got anything better? In a way we already have the obvious left wing replacement - Olsson - who looks bleedin brilliant. Peds played centrally for us for the first time three weeks ago and has done it really well. I would persevere to be honest unless we somehow identified someone better for the money we could get in. Crucially for me he is scoring - only with Kalinic and Nelsen - and we need goals.I am not sure we can turn that away.

I would keep him, unless he really wanted to go obviously.

His form has been poor for a while now, but when playing well he can be crucial for us. Not just his goals but his set pieces too. Maybe this new central position could be the answer - we should get a chance to see between now and end of the season.

Its so difficult for us to bring in quality players, and of course, MGP could go back to his old ways (i.e. poor form), however it is a risk I would take.

Sam being quoted in the Mirror Must admit I am uneasy about us conducting contract negotiations with our own players in the tabloid press.

I wouldn't worry too much, the article is hardly us conducting contract negotiations in the press.

It mearly highlights what the situation is with Morten.

Anything said in the article has already probably been said to Morten face to face.

I don't get the joke

....because that makes a whole lot of sense

He's been utter crap for 3 1/2 years, last six months of his contract and he finds some form. You think that's a coincidence? Just confirms what I've thought for awhile now - he's got no heart and no fight in him. I thought he'd lost his bottle, which was bad enough, but now it would seem he didn't care about anything but himself.
