[Archived] Morten Gamst Pedersen

Recommended Posts

Keep id say - would cost a fair bit to get a player of his ability....heavily performance related pay!

No chance. He is playing well enough at the moment to match his current Rovers contract or beat it elsewhere, especially as he is a free agent. Stoke, Everton, West Ham etc etc will have a look at him.

The basic situation we are in is either push the boat out to keep him or lose him.

One thing worth considering is are we going to carry on with this formation we are using at the moment (4231) next season? It really suits Gamst, but if we go back to a 442 will Morten revert to his old self?

ps. As MGP was rated as one of the hottest prospects in the league when his contract was extended he will easily be on 35k imo. A top earner at the club for certain.

Pedersen wasn't too bad yesterday. His passing and set pieces have improved over the last couple of months.

However, he is still far too weak in the tackle. He didnt win a single 50/50 yesterday, and he lost out on a few challenges he was favourite for. To play in there that MUST improve. He is just so timid in his movement, he never looks like he's going to have the strength to win these battles.

He needs to learn how to run as well. At the moment all he does is mince at speed.

I only saw MOTD but he absolutely cleaned out a Liverpool player to burst through and set up Kalinic. So that is an improvement....

The problem with Pedersen is that for the last 2 1/2 years he has been sh!te

I don't see how you can let him go on current form.

Seem to recall an upsurge in form when he last negotiated a contract, only for that to disappear faster than burnleys 8000 glory hunters after this seasons relegation.

We need him to sign, give him 6 months to prove himself, then sell him if he returns to his oldself.

Win win situation.

My only issue would be the position he plays. We have Dunn (who's a crock), Basturk (assuming he comes good) and Pedersen all vying for one position when funds are extremely tight.

I'd certainly keep him if he's penciled in to start where he is for the remainder of any new contract. If we plan to put him back on the left though I'd rather we spend the money elsewhere.

It's a tricky one with him I think, part of me thinks he's only playing well to put himself in the shop window but the bottom line is it shows he's capable of performing at a decent level, it's up to him and the manager to maintain that form for the rest of the season.

I think I'd probably give him a new deal, he might want 40-50k+ (Guestimate) but then a replacement is going to want a similiar wage plus his club will probably want a 5m+ transfer fee for someone of similiar quality.

If he keeps up his recent form in the center then he deserves a new deal, it's just hard to tell whether or not it's a purple patch or a return to form, I guess that's what we have a manager for!

He's never done anything to warrant that amount of money, even back when he wasn't @#/?.

I agree but I think it's just a sign of the times, on a free transfer I think other clubs would be prepared to pay him 40-50k. For a player of his quality we'll probably have to pay at least 30-35k a week in wages and on top of that a transfer fee.

Otherwise it's time to find another bargain! Tricky situation whichever way we go, I think I'm right in saying he's been offered a contract, would be interesting to see the terms he's pondering over.

His form definitely doesn't suggest he deserves a payrise but if he can get it elsewhere then no doubt he'll strongly consider it, we can either match them or look elsewhere, but sometimes it's better the devil you know. Tough one to call, my guess he's been offered a deal on similiar terms to his current deal which is fair enough in my opinion, if he doesn't sign then I won't lose any sleep.

Replace him with Hunt any day of the week.

My biggest negative with MGP is, you never know which one is going to turn out and onto few occasions we see him in the mood to contribute what he is capable of.

Never seen Hunt give less than 100% all season.

Replace him with Hunt ant day of the week.

Hunt would cost £5 million and probably similar wages too, that's the problem. If we were getting a fee for him it would be an easy decision.

If Sam could do a 'rabbit from the hat' signing like at Bolton and get someone good on a Bosman, then we'd be fine to let him go. The one I can't get out of my mind is Simon Vukcevic...a small part of me is convinced that Sam is prepared to let Pedersen go so that he can use the wages to bring him on a Bosman.

I don't know much about him LeC, would that be a good or bad thing in your view?

A good thing, he's brilliant. Think he's got a bit of an attitude on him which means he's been in and out of the Sporting side lately.

On his day he's amazing though. He's a left winger/attacking midfielder with bags of creativity and an eye for goal...just what we need really.

I think we'd be quite far down the queue (even if we were interested) on a free transfer though, 'big clubs' seem to snap up these sorts of players for their reserve teams.

5m is what was quoted in the press when Wolves showed interest in the last window, maybe he will be a bit less when they go down, either way 6 goals and 5 assists, 11 games to improve on that yet, IMO he is worth it, great at covering the FB to boot.

It only took Emerton about 4 years to win you over (or stem the hatred at least), maybe Morten will do the same...

I came to the conclusion that Emerton was being played in a position he wasnt capable of (ie right wing) and actually wasnt that bad a player, as he proved at right back and in centre mid. Having said that, even at RW he always had a bit of fight in him. I respected him even if I thought he was useless. Can't say the same for Pedersen.

get rid asap....Peds is a dog of a player and a waste of ££$$.

bye bye Peds, go and sponge off another team

This is ridiculous. Pederson is an important member of our squad. Why do you think he has played so many games for us and where are you going to get an equivalent replacement? What did we pay for Grella who has made limited appearance by comparison. We should be taking great pleasure in Pederson's performances and his goals, not posting this derogatory rubbish.

You can't compare what Ince did in the transfer market to what Sam might do. They are leagues apart (literally) when it comes to buying players.

As I keep saying, MGP wants a payrise to stay, and no matter how you spin it, he hasn't earned it. What sort of message would giving him a new contract at improved terms send out to the rest of the squad?

If he wants to take a big paycut then we should keep him, otherwise lets free up the wages.

Obviously by my profile name you will know I am going to stick up for Morten here. First off the goal against the dingles should earn him cult status - Just think if he never scored that an we lost on pens he has earnt us good bragging rights :)

How much has he been injured in the last 4 seasons? How many silly sending offs has he had? How many bad mistakes which have led to own goals? I know he hasntbeen in th ebst of form but has a new lease of life and in the new system i think he sees more of the ball and it really suits him. His deliveries are getting muchbetter and most of his freekicks now look dangerous.

Already he has scored some very important goals and some very important assists this year.

Does he deserve a pay rise - NO should we keep him - 100% yes he dus so much for the team remeber hughes saying he runs the most in a game and covers the fb so well.

Who out there can we get that is better? Hunt - like people said they rejected a 5m bid and i think opersonally they will stay up so wont accept anything less than 6m if they do.

I think we should keep him and he has been quite loyal all so.

If Sam has any nous about him, he'll be able to replace Pedersen next season for less cost on the wage bill.

He is not an indispensable player in the way David Bentley was. His best form is behind him and I'm confident we can replace him.
