Indeed. He had a string of decent games when he moved inside, but he's back to being his anonymous best.

What bugs me the most about him is that he's a wuss!

He wants £40k+ to back out of tackles, lob in awful set pieces and generally prance around like a fairy?

He's got to be having a laugh...

Ped's contributed more than most yesterday. He put in a lot of dangerous balls yesterday and his linking up with Olsson created loads of good openings down that flank. That relationship means Givet doesn't have to venture forward too much and can focus on doing what he's best at defending.

Gamst may not be the strongest in the tackle but he tracks back, delays play and allows others to get back in position. He may not be the most physical but he's always there blocking the opposition. He's one of our fittest players covers silly amounts of running during a game and for a team that has played in the main defensively and on the counter (without any pace) has still created and scored a respectable amount for a midfielder. His injury track record is good as well and he won't need 6 months to acclimatise. He can also play across the midfield as a wide left forward and even a left back if pushed, versatile and we need that at Rovers. Also don't forget he's two footed and since most on here now realise what passing limitations a right footer at left back offers, consider Gamst can use both. He can play every pass in the book, its a great attribute to have in one of your players.

Getting rid of Gamst would be a mistake, those three together could be very effective. Jones has emerged (touch wood), Nelsen's coming back as well so Givet looks likely to be pushed out left again. The three could form a strong partnership so why change it if we can avoid it? Olsson has the pace, Givet is more than solid defensively and Gamst can cross a good ball (proven yesterday) and has a rocket in his boot.

We have far more important area's to focus on next year. The more players we lose especially for nothing, the lesser the quality of their replacements unless we sell one of our better players. We have far worse central midfielders than ped's and we should focus on getting rid of them before we shift him out.

Yesterday Gamst was one of our better performers - I watched the game on the net and also listened on the radio & the radio geezers also stated he was one of the better players.

As for a new contract - Id like him to stay, but I dont want the club to bend over backwards to keep him & increase his salary.

Also allows the opposition to get back in to position with his lack of pace. Him and Diouf are masters at that! <_<

maybe but would you rather have Gamst on 40k a week or Reid? or Grella for that matter?

Back when he was great we had a team full of good quality players and not the bunch of useless tosspots we have now, we also played more attaking football so and as a result of that we got alot more chances, thus meaning there was more chance of him creating something. this season as of game 28 he has 7 assists and 5 goals (all comps) compare that to our other midfielders.

Did anyone watch Burnley yesterday?

Their biggest downfall was their inability to react when possession changed and retain a shape, they were all over the place, Pedersen is extremely good at maintaining the shape by holding up the opposition whilst defenders get back in position after attacks.

Allardyce does not play pretty football as we know, but look along the line as we defend, you will normally see two banks of four, the midfield four in front of the back four and so the opposition arent coming straight onto our back four, ok sometimes it goes wrong, but we are becoming more solid as a unit>

.

Now back to Burnley, their shape had gone, Citys attack were straight onto Burnleys back four, their midfield players hadnt got the ability or whatever to protect the defence, midfields a tough game, you need to be extremely fit with lots of stamina, only when you have that in most areas, can you afford the luxury of a Tugay player.

So for me Pederson has to stay, his versatility, workrate, ability on set pieces, throw ins are getting better and chips in with the odd goal too!!

Wonder what the cost would be to replace all those attributes? We need a good central midfielder and O'Hara would for me be ideal and gettable but to lose Ped would not be good for Rovers.

Thats virtually inevitable. Any club looking to sign him on a free in summer will no doubt match his wages and pay him a signing on fee in respect of having no transfer money to pay. If we let him go and bring in a replacement we will most likely have to pay a signing on fee too. Unless no other club comes in, which is unlikely given his reputation with memorable goals, his excellent injury free record and his ability with both feet he will cost us more. Even his long throw ins will help project his image. Seems daft but would anybody rate Rory Delap if he couldn't hurl it like a missile?

There will be representatives of other clubs watching him play most games now and through that the real dilemma facing the management is deciding whether his rather timely recent return to form is down to deciding his immediate contractual situation or down to his desire to play well for BRFC.

Basically it's the devil you know.

I really hope he stays however I feel it about 8%/20% that he goes - Some big clubs seem to be in for him Olympicos, Fiorentina, Palermo & Fenebache etc, I really feel we will struggle to find a replacement as good for as cheap :(

6 years he been here now, never injured always trys and scored some fantastic and important goals, Hope he stays.

I agree. His detractors will really only miss him once he has gone

I must've missed him being effective.

Certainly he doesn't take the same quality of free-kick that he used to. His corners never seem to clear the first man. And I can't remember the last time he scored.

But he runs around like a pansy a lot, so that's OK.

I miss the old Pedersen, who made a visible contribution. Not the powder-puff version whose greatest contribution seems to be his "work-rate" (which I take to mean he runs up and down a lot and gets his body in teh way, but can't tackle to save his life).

His corners have been relatively good this half of the season; as have his freekicks.

He's also leading our assists table yet again and he's scored 5 goals in all competitions this season, but you must have missed these incidents ;)

Runs around like a pansy?....I must have missed his handbag and high heels.

You'll be claiming he should have a pint and a packet of pork scratchings at half time just to "man up" next.

Even to the die hard hater, you've got to admit; he's been fairly effective this season.

That's barely an achievement since we play for set-pieces and Pedersen takes all of them. I'd be more surprised if he WASN'T our top assister.

I would say Pedersen has been adequate, at best. Money for his bumper new contract should be put towards new blood.

I know, but it shows he's still quite effective from freekicks and corners.

No, I don't.

He's had about 5 decent games, 2 or 3 good ones. Apart from that he's been his usual self.

The most annoying thing about him is the nonchalant way he kicks the ball. It's so half-assed. He attempts to play a pass with the outside of his foot, or to flick the ball to a team-mate, and invariably makes a hash of it and an opponent showing a bit of urgency cuts it out. This is all the more annoying because usually just passing the ball in a normal non-gay fashion would do fine.

He's got loads of talent, but seems to think he needs to do everything in a flashy way. He could actually be quite effective if he simplified things and got a bit braver. He's not going to change now, so I hope he goes.

That could apply to some of our other players more so than Pedersen. I.e. Emerton, Chimbonda, Diouf.

Non can beat McCarthy tho. He was the king of half-arsed passes.

Thats an "Andrews" response if ever I saw one. Just because there's other players just as bad or worse does not make it OK.

For the record, if Emerton, Diouf or Chimbonda had 3 months left on their contracts and wanted a payrise to stay, would you give it to them?

Whatever your thoughts are on Pedersen, B4E, he still represents the best chance of laying on a goal scoring opportunity out of the rest of the squad. Its that clear.

Losing MGP now does not represent the way forward for Blackburn Rovers football club with this current bunch.
