[Archived] Morten Gamst Pedersen

Recommended Posts

He says that he would like to try a different league Italy, Spain or Turkey and that at the moment Fenerbache has offered him the biggest contract at £2,5 mill a year.

Jeez - imagine your boss coming into your workplace each Thursay, standing in front of you and emptying a suitcase containing £50k in loose £20s onto the floor. Then he does the same the following Thursday, then the next, then the next..........Ok, I know it would be less after tax, but you get the jist! And for what Pedersen does.

Was talking to a friend of Gamst Pedersen yesterday, and he told me that Morten had been in talks with Harry Redknapp a couple of times after Harry took charge of Tottenham. This without the club having a clue about it.

He was also in talks with City when Sparky went there, but he ended up dissapointed not getting a transfer.

Today I wanted to run onto the pitch and punch him in the face. His performane in the first half was among the worst I've seen in a long while. Wussing out of challenges and misplacing pretty much every pass. Second half he improved but he's so far short of offering value for money considering he's supposedly one of our highest earners.

After today's disgraceful lack of effort and commitment, I think it's pretty clear he's leaving. Still, it shows what a good result it was today seeing as we drew with pretty much 10 men. I think he's basically taking the p**s if he thinks he worth £28 a week, never mind £28k.

Anyone else notice that in the last 3 seasons he only played acceptably during the January transfer windows? Shows what his motivations are/were.

Thanks for some great goals Morten - now do one and let us use the £28k on someone who gives a s**t! ;)

We all know he's not good enough, today didn't tell us anything we didn't know about MGP. The only question is whether we play it safe and accept his woeful to mediocre performances for another few years, or take a risk and try to replace him. Surely he's not worth another new contract when at best we get 4 or 5 good games out of him every couple of seasons?

Also, is there really nobody better at set pieces than him at the club?

But ... how could we ever hope to replace him?

We're better off giving him another fat contract to sign, seeing another 2 years of abject pish poor performances, and then selling him!

Where else could we find someone who plays so frustratingly below-par and ineffectively. We're better off sticking with him, at least we know what to expect. Yeah, that's right! (Please don't use that word again) ALL!

If you gave him a Yorkie to eat, he'd wuss out of it.

Spoke to Mortens dad before the game he wouldn't give much away. However, what he did tell me was that he would not be going to Greece. I also bumped into Salgado and asked him about Guti he said it's a money issue .

It´s a mistake by the club if he stays. He must be the worst free kicker taker ever. He must go.

I almost choked when the commentator said Pedersen's set-pieces are "always on target". :o They don't watch Rovers much, do they?

I think his performance was summed up in the second half, when in his own half he just leisurely passed the ball straight back to United. People must be deluded if they don't think we can improve on Pedersen.

Can't wait to get rid.

seconded. Would be nice to have gotten a fee for him, but the knowledge that he would never be picked again is a reward in itself. Cheerio you've been awful for years and you'll be so easily replaced as you've been playing to an incredibly low standard for years.

I really hope he signs for a birmingham or stoke or anyone around our level.

Looks like now that we are safe, he doesnt look like he has his heart in it.

Time to get rid I think. He wouldnt have stayed anyhow cause financially this is his last big chance. I can see him in Turkey or Greece or somewhere like that where he will get 1.5-2 million Euros at least as a signing on fee on top of his weekly salary.

Maj - I always thought that vision is one of the things that you can't coach (same as speed of thought). You're saying that there are methods which can improve how much a player sees and how to make a decision that doesn't always go with instinct?

When you break it down into parts then yes those parts can be trained. The visual part is the search how often does he get his head up and look around? Lampard is a great example as he is always looking around him. This can be trained by using visual cues in your coaching, say a red cone means turn, so as the coach I don't give verbal instructions. This then forces the players to constantly keep looking at you (you move around, as do they). If this is used constantly then they will transfer it onto the pitch. There are other methods and its not the best example, but hopefully you get the concept.

Now for the decisions. Now firstly you need to understand that footballers have amassed about 10,000 hours playing time by 18, some much more (ronaldinho made it to the 30,000's (didn't go to school much)). Now in football you constantly find yourself in similar situations (provided you use deliberate play and games), your successes and failures are saved in your long term memory. Now it is proposed that in sports people they have an ability to access long term memory quickly (long term working memory) so can access that and act quickly based on what they know. So instinct as most know it, is really just that they can access certain memories quickly (it then appears instinctual). Now we can all agree that we learn and most if placed in the same situations over and over will try and figure out a way to succeed, thats natural. Everyone improves their decisions as they go through life and football is no different its just the volume of similar/same decisions are far higher in football. The main limiting factor is the individuals ability to learn or figure out a way to succeed, this is the coaching part ( we all learn differently coaches must figure out how best collectively and individually to impart information). Whether its done verbally, visually through session design or some other method it will improve provided they get success.

I think it should be now or never for MGP, either sign the contract or take him out of the squad and start looking to next season,, try Basturk (Like Sam has hinted) or perhaps go 4-4-2 and have one last look at Di Santo to see if he's worth a bid.

If Pedersen isn't going to be sticking around then I don't see the point of playing him anymore when we have little to play for.

Look how well Jones has done after being given a chance of only a few games, someone else deserves a chance like that ahead of MGP.

Basturk must be given chance. He was far better player than MGP has ever been or will be. Our strength is good head players. Why oh why MGP has been taken corners and free kicks for ages? What a waste. He just can´t deliver the ball.

Recall Judge, Plymouth are down now (Devon derbies again next season, WooHoo) and give the lad a chance. He's done alright.

Was being the operative word.

MGP, takes all our set-pieces quite simply because whether people like it or not he's about the best we have. Sam obviously feels this way as well, otherwise he wouldn't be taking them. Thats the sad part, he is in-consistent but how bad must the rest be???? We desperatly need some more techincally gifted players.

Yep why not, Judge, Doran, Basturk, Linganzi, Brown any of them really. Pedersen needs to put up or shut up and if he doesn't put up then let's give someone a go who's going to be here next season.

That must be wrong. Arry surely learned his lesson after appearing on tele gobbing off about Todd.
