daveoftherovers Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 I thought he played ok today, not great but offered far more than some on there, his set pieces on the whole were really dangerous and on another day we would have scored from them. IMHO, you can't blame him for not having enough threat in the box, there is nothing wrong the majority of his delivery. I'm sure I'm correct that he has the most numbers of assists at our club (Bar none)? I say keep him unless you can find better, and I don't see many around TBH, certainly not in our price range. Personally, I think he's still got it and I've seen enough of the positives in him this season to suggest he should stay. p.s. Give him credit, he's loyal and he's stuck at it, it's never just about money with guys like him IMHO.

Hughesy Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 That says it all about the manager really .... he also thinks Keith Andrews is good enough to start games in the Prem, and that 4-4-2 doesn't work even though it got us two goals today. Last week - 90 minutes against the champs, 0 goals Today - 55 mins against 8th, 2 goals conceded! Today we got 2 goals from it...most weeks 4-4-2 would be suicidal - we wouldnt of seen any points against United or Chelsea!
Eddie Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 That's a very selective way of looking at it. If you want to look at it that way: We lost the game 1-0 with one up front. We drew the game 2-2 with two up front. I think this team has shown that it is probably more suited to the two up front. The 4-5-1 or 3-4-3 only seems to work when we can boss the central midfield and we simply don't have the players capable of doing that right now against more premier league sides. When we aren't able to do it we just turn the ball over too regularly and are lone striker is isolated.
Majiball Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Since we're safe, I'd like to see Sam revert back to the formation we started the season with. Two sitters/midfielders and most of the play coming down the flanks, we created loads against City and sunderland in the first two matches. --------------Robbo-------------- Salgado---Samba----Jones---Givet ----------Grella---N'zonzi------- Hoillet--------------------Olsson --------Kalinic----Roberts-------

Tim Southampton Rover Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I like how this is a thread on MGP yet you don't put him in that team
RoyRover Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 IMHO, you can't blame him for not having enough threat in the box, there is nothing wrong the majority of his delivery. Give him credit, he's loyal and he's stuck at it, it's never just about money with guys like him IMHO. The guy is totally useless though. I'm sure he has the most assists at the club, since he takes more or less all of our free kicks, corners and throw ins and these are the very thing that we play for, to get the ball into the box and hope that something might fall to one our players. You really think he has still got it? The years of absolute dross are a positive? He started of the first half of the season, like he played the last three, slow, uninterested, with no quality. He was shifted in field and had an up turn of form (any sort of half decent performance would look like a good game, such has been his awfulness over the past number of seasons), but those performances quickly evaporated and he's back to doing what he does best. Nothing. I'm sure he is loyal, he is getting paid a fortune and doing sweet FA. It really shouldn't be too hard to find someone better and the club should be doing it's utmost to find a replacement, even if it's on a free transfer. I would honestly rather keep Steven Reid despite his injury problems and play him in the centre of midfield next season. He's been getting a run of games for WBA, which will help his fitness no end. At least the guy would try. I hope that Pedersen turns down our contract offer and goes elsewhere. At least then the club would be forced to look for another 'creative' player.
Bobby G Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Dont worry about Pedersen, he wont sign a new contract.
ewoodpo Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Let's hope not and Sam takes a look at Petrov at City he is available on a free.
DeadlyDirk Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Let's hope not and Sam takes a look at Petrov at City he is available on a free. Let's not replace a pussy with an even bigger one. Petrov is like the Pedersen of old, scores some decent goals and has a sweet left foot on him but won't make a tackle, doesn't do any defending and is useless without the ball. He's just another MOTD player like Pedersen used to be.
MarkBRFC71 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Last week - 90 minutes against the champs, 0 goals Today - 55 mins against 8th, 2 goals conceded! Today we got 2 goals from it...most weeks 4-4-2 would be suicidal - we wouldnt of seen any points against United or Chelsea! A couple of weeks ago, 90 mins with 4-5-1 against a team bottom of the league and virtually relegated - 0 goals scored. Yesterday, 20 mins of 4-4-2 against a team who've lost 2 in 23, and are Champions League hopefuls - 2 goals. You can dress it up how you want, but Allardyce's favoured system delivers awful, ineffectual, entertainment-free football. Just watching Wigan, who are trying to play football against Arsenal, and are 3-2 up. Let's see how effectual the BFS brand system is in a couple of weeks. won't make a tackle, doesn't do any defending and is useless without the ball. You've just described MGP.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Let's not replace a pussy with an even bigger one. He's just another MOTD player like Pedersen used to be. I really rated Petrov at one time but he's had a few injuries recently. Having said that he'd be faster than Pedersen if he had to race him running backwards. I'd be inclined to steer clear given his record of injuries. I don't think he's a "Sam" player either.
MarkBRFC71 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I don't think he's a "Sam" player either. Is he over 6 foot 2, and able to kick it 80 yards high and long? If the answer to both is yes, he ticks all Sam's boxes.
1864roverite Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Lets be honest, if Pederson was going to sign his latest contract he would have already agreed to it. The guy is waiting to move on, although I cant see many other teams better than Rovers offering him a better deal. Premiership wise - has there been any interest ? La Liga ? Dont think so. Turkey ? i dont think he has the passaion to play in that league. Greece ? appears a likely destination but a lower standard of football than England. Russia ? the current destination to make a few bucks could be an option. Scotland ? Celtic were allegedy linked. Italy ? Cany see any team paying him a decent wedge to go there. Ireland ? maybe he and ka can go and take a franchise ! Other than Rovers you have to ask what his options will be

That was the point, hence Petrov being an even bigger pussy than Pedersen.
Blue n White Rover Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 According to the LET, he has until middle of this week to sign his contract. Lets hope he doesn't.
Ozz Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 This is the match thread from MGPs first season,, bizarrely, previewed by Waggy, in which MGP scores his third in three games. He gets plenty of praise in it-and when you compare what was said about him then to what's aid now, you gotta question the lads motivation. You don't lose skill and ability like he appears to have, I think it's his desire. If this is the case, then time to move him on. PS-Den-do you remember nearly being killed by the Jumbotron falling to bits!??

Sam must value him higher than the supporters in most cases.
LeChuck Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Just watching Wigan, who are trying to play football against Arsenal, and are 3-2 up. You know Wigan play 4-5-1, right?
MarkBRFC71 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 You know Wigan play 4-5-1, right? Aren't Rodallega and Moreno out and out strikers? Also, N'Zogbia is an old-fashioned winger, so I'd say that whatever formation they played, it was far more attacking than anything BFS has ever used, except the Chelsea CC game (and arguably McDonald had more to do with that selection). Even if we assume it was even remotely like Sam's 'vision' of 4-5-1 (and it wasn't), it's all about how you choose to play within the formation? They played through the midfield, trying to pass the ball around. With our take on it, the 4 and the 5 serve only to launch the ball generally at the 1. At every opportunity - even when a simple pass is on.
Pedderz0912 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Hi Folks, Just heard off a friend that Morten is ready to commit to a new 3 year contract and all will be made official in the next week or so. I dont know how reliable his contact is or if he is in the know etc but most things he told me in the past been spot on Also a friend works in ticket office and Dindane was at Ewood on tuesday of last week I think it was?? Why do players go Ewood I thought theyd always go Brockhall? Cheers anyway..
Muddboy Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Well, all I can say is that I hope your mate's got it wrong. Another three years of the dross MGP has served up in recent games? No thank you. The mind boggles at what Sam and his team must be thinking to offer MGP three years!

broadsword Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Jesus wept, let it not be true. He's been de-frauding Rovers for 3 years now with his gutless displays, to give him another 3 years is insane.
