A lot of people are having Andrews moments over MGP

I think that is misplaced and I will be happy if he signs on to stay.

Agreed, I think he has his flaws but it's up to the manager to get the best out of him, he can still be a good player for us, the way we talk on here as a bunch at times you'd think we may as well just clear everyone out.

We'd probably need to pay a sizeable fee and a similiar wage to what he is on to get someone in of the same quality, who could end up doing a lot worse, better the devil you know.

Doubly agreed... MGP is a very valuable member of this squad no matter what his critics spout about him. We would miss him big time if he went. I also want to see the rematch with Arteta! :D

And if we can't sell him?

And if he has a good season next season?

Why all the doom and gloom? I'd rather he was on our side than playing against us, to replace him would cost a lot of money and then you've also got to find the right man!

Maybe the new contract is what he needs to get his head down and get on with it.

Why the doom and gloom? I tell you why! I am completely astonished, no angered that a player who has been overall @#/? for 2-3 seasons is given a brand new deal. He had 5 games where his performances picked up this season, after that he has shown he is back to his normal ineffective self.

Its been well publicised the club has a large problem that wages dominate our budget and yet we give this frucking joker a new deal to further drain our wages.

He doesn't deserve a new contract, he doesn't deserve to be at this club!

And if we can't sell him?

Im sure we could if the price was right.

Our main priority this season has to be a new striker & midfielder. If we lose MGP then we can say goodbye to the majority of our budget if we want to replace him.

It would take a brave man to let him go & simply allow Olsson to take his place - with no back-up cover for Olsson if he's injured/ suspended or out of form.

So, propose a solution. We let MGP go and then have to replace him. How do we go about that?

We are in a better position than a lot of clubs, we have a decent squad that requires strengthening not ripping apart. We have a low budget that will be concentrated on strengthening the two areas we know we need it most. Letting MGP go will only damage our chances of signing the players needed as a majority of our budget would be spent on replacing him.

MGP is our best player for set pieces, we don't have another player who can match him. It was stated in a recent post that he has most assists this season so that to me says that although he doesn't seem to be as affective as he has been in the past, he is affective and a key player to us.

And he has most assists this season.....

Give me a machine gun and eventually I'll hit something.

Are people forgetting Pedersen cost a paltry £1.5m from the Norwegian league? That's the sort of bargain we should be looking for again. Not keeping a player in luxury who peaked yearssssss ago.

1.5M for an up and coming international??? Not in todays market, we looked at Annan last year similiar sort of standard player (when we signed Ped's), similiar league and we're getting quoted between 2.5-5M according to reports. The markets gone crazy, since the time we signed Ped's.

How much did Nzonzi cost us again?

How much did Kalinic cost???? He's was a young up and coming international when we signed him, Steven was not.

N'zonzi hadn't even played for France at any level when we signed him and was one for the future. We've gotten bloody lucky he's stepped up as no-one at the club thought he would this year, he was bought as back-up. You also might want to consider that attacking midfielders cost far more than water carriers. Add in all the attributes we have to replace as well IE set-pieces and you honestly think we're going to get a shoe in for 400K????? If ped's goes we need someone to come in and hit the ground running straight away who will definitely succeed in our league, those players don't cost 400K, they cost millions, which we just don't have.

Lets say this bargain you all want to replace ped's comes in and fails, can you imagine our first choice midfield next year?

Because it will be worse than what we have now, much worse.

The point I'm making is that there are plenty of bargains to be made, and Rovers have a good record of finding them. It's unfair to just chalk Nzonzi off as a fluke. Take a slightly different example - Many had their reservations about Roque Santa Cruz, but look at the profit we made from one prolific season. Right now, Pedersen is an average player playing for an average team. We have an opportunity to improve the quality of the side, but I fear we'll take the lazy option and keep him signed up for the foreseeable future.

If pedersen leaves then it weakens our left side options, or left central midfield options.

Id rather we didnt weaken our squad, only improve it........plenty of other things need sorting prior to his position....So why waste budget on a replacement for him?

Hello. We've been calling out for a decent midfielder for centuries now. Pedersen's departure is the ready made opportunity to tackle that problem.

Id say the departures of Reid & Andrews would be better - 2 players that offer nothing, will earn more combined & 1 who would actually command a fee to put towards our new centre mid.

I agree with this. As it stands Pedersen is a better player than Andrews, and is far more fit than Grella or Reid. So we should be looking to shift those three first if we can. I can see some mileage in Pedersen playing a more central and slightly deeper role next year. He has good technique and a decent pass on him, we need that in the middle. A better player would be great of course, but we have what we have.

Resulting in weakening our chances of signing a good striker. Not good business I'm afraid.

We spent £6m on Kalinic and forgot he needed a midfield to support him. It works both ways.

I'd prefer all three to leave. It's time to trim the deadwood and get Sam to prove his corn in the transfer market. Like I said, this Pedersen deal feels like the easy option.

Ermmm, Gamst 'Ladyboy' Pedersen is just as useless as Andrews except he has a fancy sounding name which endears him so some.

In fact, at least Andrews puts in some effort (granted this doesn't make up for his complete ineptitude at this level) which definitely cannot be said of the former.

If Pedersen signs a new bumper deal then that would be nothing but a monumental setback for the club. Surely even you could see that from the inside of Monsieur Allardyce's rear-end?
