nottsrover Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 The club have shown him loyalty by offering him a new contract he doesn't deserve. They set a two deadlines for him to decide, but he seems to have totally ignored both of them. The highlights he provided were in his first three seasons. Since the spectacular goals dried up, he has done little else over the past three years to justify him signing a huge long term contract. Showing MGP loyalty would have been agreeing terms on a new deal before he entered the final year of his contract. You talk about the fact that the club has given him two deadlines as if that reflects badly on MGP. I don't see why. It seems to me that the fact that we (presumably) improved our offer after the first deadline demonstrates that he was correct not to accept it. To those that point to the fact that he hasn't gone anywhere else - I guess we will have to wait and see. The season is now over and now is the time that he will move, if at all. As to whether there is someone else out there who is better, I would point out that the club don't appear to be too confident - they have already made two offers to try to keep him for longer!

Ricky Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Absolutely no doubt for me that he's off. That was definitely without doubt goodbye today. All the other players applauding the crowd but Pedersen was waving goodbye.

Maybe it is not just about money with Pedersen. Maybe he first wanted to see how and where Rovers finished under Sam this season. Maybe he wants to see how ambitious the club are. After all having experienced the Ince saga, where he wasn't in his eyes, 'valued' . Now the new playing position Sam has been playing him, maybe he has been giving himself time to think and consider his options. Of course there is also the possibility that he is a greedy son of a b and wants to get as much dosh as he can get and rates himself a better player than he really is.
modes98 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Pedersen was waving goodbye. Shame, is he taking emerton with him?
JAL Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Shame, is he taking emerton with him? True modes98, losing Pederson whose contributed greatly to Rovers attacks in the second half of this season compared with the non productive Bret Emmerton, certainly makes it a bigger loss to lose MGP. Only a fool could wish for MGP to leave the club at this moment in time.
Bobby G Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I said it for the last two months. He is leaving. Otherwise he would have signed. Plus he is 28 and this is his last big deal. He will end up in Turkey or Greece or somewhere like that where they pay big for Bosmans. Why should he forsake a 2-3 million signing on fee and wages to re-sign with us when we wont offer him anything close to it? It might be a blessing in disguise, IF we can sign someone better. Lets face it, he is currently at BEST an effective player for us. Nothing more.
Majiball Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Does anyone else think it was just coincidence that Gamst came on at half-time and we started to play more football and look more threatening??? Perhaps Sam was trying to show the fans what he does bring to the team by doing it???

According to media stories they are going to have to pick up freebies and sell to buy.

Perhaps Sam was trying to show the fans what he does bring to the team by doing it??? We did switch to 3-5-2 at ht and Dunn got livelier in the second half. We cant dismiss Pedersen having an influence but I wouldnt put more emphasis than that.
Majiball Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 In the first half both Andrews, Lingzani and Keith spent more time in our half and around the penalty box than anywhere else. Gamst took positions higher up the pitch from the off which allowed Dunn to also play higher up and play where he can do damage. Any positive influence no matter how small is a good thing, and it played a part in us getting into the game as at half time we hadn't done a thing with 0 shots on goal. I know he's not what he was but he does make a good contribution when he's considered as a whole. When you compare Gamst contribution against some of our other midfielders IE Andrews, Grella, for me he's far from the one we need to shift. I'd get rid of Grella before anyone as he makes Dunn look like an ever-present and has contributed nothing in two seasons.
Shaddy Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 This is all too late to discuss IMO. The point of no return has been passed already. MGP won't be with Rovers next season. And a shame that IMO.
1864roverite Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 If the media up in the north east are correct, Newcastle wont be signing anyone until they have got rid of upto 10 players from the staff and have raised a few pounds. The promotion money has ALREADY been eaten up in taking out a £32m trading deficit this season PLUS the £20m that they were required to pay off before August 2010. Rumour up there is that they will have a squad of 18-20 for the first team and will have to offload two from Smith, Barton and Guthrie BEFORE any signings come into the club including freebies and loans. Seems like its the usual fun up in barcodeland !!
Majiball Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Possibly because most of us don't have our own scouting network or football agent phonebook. You could use FM, lots of big clubs do!!
LeChuck Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 You could use FM, lots of big clubs do!! Aye. Just find which players have a high PA and we'll be laughing!
Majiball Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Aye. Just find which players have a high PA and we'll be laughing! LOL, PA whats that??? As long as we end up with Neymar we'll be laughing!!!! PS Gamst is a beast on the game, so we all know its realistic!!!!
braddock Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 rovers should make up their mind and withdraw the offer
Emge Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Morten was on Norwegian tele tonight talking about his club-situation. He said that he is talking to a number of clubs and one of those clubs are us. He said he would fancy a move to Italy or Spain, mentioned the warm climate and made no effort to hide the fact that money has a big saying in all of this. "It could happen something today, tomorrow, next week, we'll just have to wait and see", he said. However, he did also mention how much he loved the club and that if he stays he liked the idea of getting a testimonial match after 10 years. I think I want him to stay, as it would take away important cash out of our already limited budget to replace him, money we really need for a "top" striker. But its a shame that he is dragging this on and on, if he goes we need time to replace him, sooner rather than later
47er Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 God I hope he doesn't qualify for a testimonial! It would be totally embarassing. Who would turn up?
67splitscreen Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 He's taking the MICHAEL, without burning his bridge, he's prerogative of course, because of the situation, Sam must have more patience than I thought he had. This all affair can't be helping Sam's plans.

Wonder why he think a testimonial would be good for him then!?!
Torgeir Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Wonder why he think a testimonial would be good for him then!?! Modern footballer, almost everyone play for money.
Emge Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Not everyone tho, http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11863_6159646,00.html Should be more players like him:P
braddock Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 we have another left winger who is better than him getting him off the wage bill could help us bring in a better central midfielder than him (even though we have quite a few better already) he is being a cock get rid
Billy Castell Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 The stats may suggest he provides a lot of assists, but he just doesn't do enough. We have Olsson, so its time to withdraw the offer and sign Ledley on a Bosman. Gamst is not worth a £40,000 p/w contract or whatever it is.
