MGP has struggled to take half decent corners, and free kicks. He fails to take on the opposition defence, and has just lost the ability to a) create more opportunities for his team mates and himself, and B) to be able to dribble and get past a player/s. Olsson seems more than willing to run at the defence, likewise with Hoilett and both has pace which is what we need.

Ive had about enough of MGP, its time to withdraw our offer and move on.

One thing is for certain- if MGP signs, the club will not have overpaid for him which is a very good thing.

Seems to me Rovers have pitched the offer exactly right. He's still interested and nobody has beaten it although it is close enough to the market for MGP to have a good look around.

I still prefer that he stays. Finding a replacement is neither cheap nor easy.

Morten was on Norwegian tele tonight talking about his club-situation. He said that he is talking to a number of clubs and one of those clubs are us. He said he would fancy a move to Italy or Spain, mentioned the warm climate and made no effort to hide the fact that money has a big saying in all of this. "It could happen something today, tomorrow, next week, we'll just have to wait and see", he said.

However, he did also mention how much he loved the club and that if he stays he liked the idea of getting a testimonial match after 10 years.

I think I want him to stay, as it would take away important cash out of our already limited budget to replace him, money we really need for a "top" striker.

But its a shame that he is dragging this on and on, if he goes we need time to replace him, sooner rather than later

He only fancies a move to Italy or Spain because the pace of the game is so slow. He knows his legs have gone – something that's vital in the Premier League – and is obviously protecting his future.

I don't blame him but this is as clear an indication we're ever going to get that he doesn't see Rovers as his first choice for the new season and I hope BFS and JW take the appropriate action.

Get that offer off the table ASAP and cut him loose.

Shocked that he signed one, and shocked that we offered a 4 year deal too. However, on the positive side, as a central midfielder he is a good squad player at the very least, and it would cost more to get in a replacement who could be potentially better, BUT we all know we are tight on cash.

Either way, Im not delighted, but Im content. More money for a better striker and Guti now.

We still are getting rid of Reid, Zurab, Basturk, and possibly a couple more deadwood, so the wages would be off-set I reckon.

Perfect opportunity to get rid of a player who peaked years ago and we have blown it. 4 more years of MGP! JHC!

JW can moan all he likes in the local paper about our wage budget being too big, dominating our overall budget and giving us some serious problems in the future. I can't understand his argument when they have given this joker another 4 year deal.

Simply put we do not have the money to replace him. He is an experienced Premier League player, he may not have performed at a consistent level but replacing him would be a expensive exercise as Sam would want to bring in someone who has experienced at Premier League level and that costs money that we do not have at this moment.

Despite his inconsistent performances he can do a job for Rovers, his role has changed during the second half of the season and some of his performances were pretty good, now that he has signed it will allow Sam to go out and buy a striker as that is his number on priority.

I'm absolutely flabbergasted – 4 years!!!!!!

What kind of message does this send out?

I'll tell you, that we are more than happy to reward mediocrity and players that couldn't give two hoots about this great club.

I only hope MGP comes back next season with a decent attitude and that he's prepared to put a decent shift in.

4 years on £35,000+ PW!

Unbelievable.

Glad its all sorted - happy to have him - not delighted but content (as someone already said). Hope he can continue to improve his form. Now we can focus on getting a striker in now the club know their budget.

The only positive is that we can sell him for a fee now, plus maybe will have more cash to spend elsewhere in the squad this summer (Guti!)

Shocked at it being a 4 year deal though. He's been average at best for the last 3 years...so what his performances will be like in 4 years I dread to think.

The need to reduce the wage bill, but offers of contracts like this, and Andrew's improved deal don't reflect that.

Happy with this news. Sam wanted him to stay, and Sam is the Boss, unless I am very much mistaken. Miss Roversmum will be able to sleep at night for another four years ha ha!!!!!

You moaners should be happy, too, give you something to keep moaning about for the next four years, especially as Bert isn't playing very much and Keef is worming his way into your affections :P

5-6 decent performances, after that he went back to his turgid self.

Really going to enjoy next season, a crap midfield with Andrews and MGP in it setting up loads of goals for our 20 goal a season striker!

Nothing i repeat nothing will convince me this is good for the club Kamy.

Quite right. Transfers cost a lot more than the quoted transfer fee and any player of suitable experience in the premier league would be wanting similar wages anyway. It's been obvious for some time that whatever the fans may think of Pedersen's performances, the manager doesn't think he can better value for money out there in the transfer market with a pretty good guarantee that the player fits the squad and the dressing room and is as injury free as you can ever guarantee. Fans might not rate him - allardyce does and has persuaded the chairman, who we are all saying is good and has his head screwed on the right way when it comes to club finances, that this is a contract worth issuing, for a player he wants. Doubter or not, you have to get behind him when he pulls on the blue and white halves now and back the judgement of our manager. You can't praise Allardyce for all the good things you claim he's done this season and then knock his judgement on this one. He wants Pedersen - he's got him, and that should be that.

i'm guessing now he isn't putting himself in the shop window anymore his performances will return to what they were

and i'm still surprised at all the people who think he actually needs to be replaced. we have people who can play better than he can in both the positions he has played this season, and losing his wages would have been fantastic for the clubs budget.

Well said! If this is true, I can't understand the mentality of the club. We're not protecting an asset here; Pedersen's best days are behind him and yet we can afford to give him an £8m contract? Yet this kind of money couldn't be invested into his replacement? We have a healthy record of unearthing good players, but both the board & Sam have shown a lack of ambition with this blunder.

Also towards the end of the season we benifited greatly from set piece goals from corners. I think Alladyce views him as an important member of the squad due to his setpieces and throw ins. Alladyce puts a huge emphasis on set pieces for our team so i can see why he wanted him to commit to the club so much. Whether he is benifitting the team in open play is another question. I don't think they'd have put so much effort in making him an offer if we had a player of similar set piece ability.
