"Blackburn always was my first choice. We have a united team, great management and brilliant supporters," he (Pedersen) said.

"Also, there aren't many footballers who get the opportunity to stay with one Premier League club for 10 years.

"I did and I want to honour that."

Well he thinks more of the fans than the majority seem to think of him

I am happy too. A proven and versatile Premier League player who contributes with a lot of assists and on-form is a very good player. He is rarely injured and provides us norwegians some Blackburn news in the media - even though it is "Gamst won against Bolton", "Gamst lost against" etc.

Happy to have you on further board Morten!

Very Happy with my news and my contact was once again spot on - I rang him though and said you said 3 years not 4 years and he said that was for testimonial ;-)

Very happy indeed with this news - Legend Pederson simply for that goal v burnley + them 2 at old trafford and that 1 v fulham and that 1 v Wigan :)

Very happy - You only have to look at last coupleof games of season to see what he brings - Assist v wolves, Involved in both goals v arsenal aswell overall game improving and now we can focus on summer signings :) Guti and a striker and Im happy :)

Heres to another top 10 finish :)

Great news, really happy with that.

To replace him with someone of the same level would have cost us far more IMO

An utter waste of money. That charlatan has been taking the p**s for the last 3 years and we give him another 4 year contract - on more money?!? I'm incredulous .... What's happened to Rovers that we can be taken the p**s out of by such a poor player? He's only signed because no-one else would touch him with a bargepole for the money he expects.

Looks like we've got another 4 years of that joker wimping out of any physical contact, mincing about putting in the bare minimum effort, taking shockingly bad free-kicks and corners, and the dreaded long throw to look forward to. Yippee.

Please, please sign someone - anyone - who will keep this waster from the first team Sam!!

A specialist throw in taker costs a lot of money these days, £3m to £4m and that's a key part of our attacking game plan. The fact he can take a corner and occasionally get it right shouldn't be ignored either. Add that to the fact that he once out muscled someone to win the ball in midfield last season and I think it's probably a good move.

We've a budget of next to nothing by the sounds of things, if we lost him he would need replacing. That would be even less money to attract the likes of Guti, Raul (try and keep a straight face here) or one of those French blokes from Portsmouth.

Earth shattering great / disappointing news this is not.

I think this is excellent news. Pedersen has played well during the second half of the season after moving into a more central role. The fact that the manager saw his signing as a priority suggests that he sees him as a vital component of what he is building at Ewood Park. The simple fact is that a player of his age and experience would cost a huge chunk of our budget to replace. Indeed, there was no guarantee that we could have replaced him with our financial limitations.

You could've bought a wheely bin for far less money.

Brilliant, if that bin can have 5 goals and 9 assists and still be slagged off for having a crap

season

Don't think Sam shares your opinion , Mark...

Perhaps that says a lot about Sam's judgment! Surely no-one in their right mind can be happy that we're wasting circa £6m over the next 4 years on Pedersen?!? He's done nothing at all in the last 3 years to justify even being retained at all, let alone on a 4 year deal. That money could have been put to far better use.

I was beginning to feel a bit more positive about BFS - this has just wiped that out in one fell swoop.

MGP will now slide back even further into the depths of mediocrity now he knows that he's just secured the rest of his career at our expense.

Very, very bad decision imo.

It astonishes me that with our record of transforming unproven/unfavoured players that people are so adamant that replacing Pedersen (of all players) would be beyond our means. Pedersen is a shirker who hasn't had a decent season for years, and only contributes through the sheer abundance of set-pieces and long throws he's ordered to take. To reward him with a four year IMPROVED contract is madness by the club and they should be ashamed of themselves.

I think it's good that we tied Pedersen down to a new contract because bringing in an adequate replacement would have been expensive and eaten in to our already meagre transfer budget, but four years and with a pay increase is hard to stomach.

The biggest advantage to this is that there must surely be funds available for either a big name CF or CM signing, or both.

I think that is unfair. He has been one of our better players for the last few months. Attacking wise only Dunn has offered more. Pedersen has given substantially more than Kalinic for example, Hoilett, Diouf, Roberts. Sad but true.

Plenty of others who need shifting more than Pedersen.

Look it's the manager's choice. If he wanted someone else or saw someone else who he thought could offer him what pedersen offers, would come in and not need to settle into a new club, new country new football culture or whatever, who would cost no more in total, who would have an excellent injury record, who would have no language or homefinding problems, had premier league experience and wanted less cash than Pedersen, he'd have gone for him. He didn't think he could get better value for money and you can bet he looked at the financial aspects with the chairman and it was all thought through before they pitched the offer in the first place. There are people elsewhere moaning that we have targets and don't get the signing through. Here's one we have - Pedersen has been Allardyce's chosen man for a long time - and you are all still moaning. This is surely a back the manager moment.I don't like him but if he wants this player, I'm prepared to back his professional judgement and perhaps others, who keep saying what a great job he is doing, should be too.

Ah crap, was really hoping he'd bugger off.

Oh well it's not worth fretting over.

You would have thought they would have waited until we signed Guti and Raul, and put Pedersen's new contract at the bottom of the same press release. You know, bury bad news behind the good and all that ....

Possibly, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have booted him when we had the chance.

Yes, yes, it's the manager's decision but that doesn't mean we should sit back and accept everything that happens. If we all did that, there wouldn't be any use for Hughesy on here.

Overall pleased - due to having little/no money, as Sparky and now Sam have continuously said, buying new players is very difficult for us.

Whilst he frustrates me with his performance too, don't think he has been as bad as some make out. Major room for improvement though, hopefully starting from the first game next season.

Also keeping the squad fairly stable this summer is a priority for the manager.
