Muddboy Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I think the positive reaction from a surprising number of people on here just goes to show how many of our supporters are prepared to settle for second best – something that MGP clearly is. Amazing and shows a complete and utter lack of ambition on their part.

super_arran Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Perhaps that says a lot about Sam's judgment! Surely no-one in their right mind can be happy that we're wasting circa £6m over the next 4 years on Pedersen?!? He's done nothing at all in the last 3 years to justify even being retained at all, let alone on a 4 year deal. That money could have been put to far better use. I was beginning to feel a bit more positive about BFS - this has just wiped that out in one fell swoop. MGP will now slide back even further into the depths of mediocrity now he knows that he's just secured the rest of his career at our expense. Very, very bad decision imo. Yawn
CrazyIvan Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I think he's by far the best we could expect to get and I'm glad he's signed. Nothing to do with settling for 'second-best' at all.
alexanders Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I am shocked at the harsh opinions of some of our supporters. He is a PROVEN and VERSATILE premier league player. He contributes a lot with his assists and long-throws(is boring).
MarkBRFC71 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Yawn Thanks for that, very constructive. And your opinion would be .... ?
super_arran Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Thanks for that, very constructive. And your opinion would be .... ? IMO he's a good player and contributes well attacking and defensivly. I'm surprised we've offered him 4 years tho. But that's just my opinion, I'm not gona bang on and on about it tho.
Claytons Left Boot Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 taken from Dagbladet - 'Blackburn was always my first choice.' He pays tribute to the team, traing facilities and the supporters. 'In addition, there aren't many players who get the chance to be at a PL team for ten years. It is something I've got and is something I want,' says Gamst Pedersen.
gumboots Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Possibly, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have booted him when we had the chance. Yes, yes, it's the manager's decision but that doesn't mean we should sit back and accept everything that happens. If we all did that, there wouldn't be any use for Hughesy on here. There's room to question the manager on here but constant moaning when he's just made what he considers a crucial signing is pointless. He wanted him; he's got him. If you and others are going to go on moaning for the next 4 years or however long he actually stays it's a bit boring that's all.
Backroom DE. Posted May 19, 2010 Backroom Posted May 19, 2010 I'm okay with MGP signing a new contract, but less happy that it's a 4 year deal. With that type of contract we'll have to wait roughly 3 years before we get some good performances.
waggy Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 can't believe people are happy to have this arse wipe for another 4 years,he's had a decent 6 months in the last 4 years,LARD@RSE OUT

broadsword Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 People have their opinions on him, never the twain shall meet. We might just as well acceopt each other's views rather than have a tedious unproductive argument about it. I still say his heart's not in it and there's a low signal-to-noise ratio in his work. 4 years is definitely too much, and I don't understand how people say he couldn't be replaced easily.
Rovermatt Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 What on earth has he done over the last number of seasons to justify a new contract? I was really looking forward to a clean break from this guy. He raised his game to an acceptable level only when requiring a new contract so perhaps we should expect the prior malaise to return. Here's to another season of aimless hoofing then.
Fife Rover Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Yes there is. You'll still have a scapegoat No they'll have two.......Andrews as well!
braddock Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 A picture says more than words. isn't it depressing when the stupid ones are right though? mgp is a waster. how people can have a go at andrews and not him baffles me
broadsword Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Someone needs to be on the sideline beating him with a stick to get him playing.
MarkBRFC71 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 IMO he's a good player and contributes well attacking and defensivly. I'm surprised we've offered him 4 years tho. But that's just my opinion, I'm not gona bang on and on about it tho. Fair enough, but I totally disagree about his contribution. I'm dumbfounded that we've (1) given him a new deal, and (2) that it's 4 years, when he's done nothing (apart from in January transfer windows) since the FA Cup Semi against Chelsea to justify it. Either it'll spur him on to become the Pedersen of old, or he'll now be able to basically retire today safe in the knowledge that he's got circa £6m coming whether he can be arsed or not. Hopefully it's the former, but I fear it'll be the latter unfortunately .... he's got a LOT to prove to most Rovers fans, especially now.
67splitscreen Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 If I was playing on the same team as him, I'd want to strangle the little tw@t. That's a bit much, a poke in the eye, less noticeable and wouldn't get you sent off.
unluckymorton Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 That's a bit much, a poke in the eye, less noticeable and wouldn't get you sent off. Nice one 67.
tcj_jones Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 He's decent enough player for a mid-table Premier League team and while his peformances are usually adequate at best, he has chipped in with some vital goals this season and a fair number of assists. His long throw is also a valuable asset. To label him a waster is harsh. I think a four year deal is definitely too long and a pay rise would be difficult to swallow, but he definitely offers us something and I think we'd have been forced to splash out a transfer fee and similar wages on a replacement. He's also offers far, far more than Andrews, for those making the comparison.
rog of the rovers Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Good news. Pedersen has been much improved in the middle and as said previously, contributes with thrown ins and free kicks. It also gives out the right message to any potential signings, that MGP decided to stay despite reported interest from second rate Champions League clubs.
gumboots Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 No they'll have two.......Andrews as well! That thought did cross my mind too. But then there is still time left for us to sell Andrews so perhaps I should hve said "you're still guaranteed at least one scapegoat." IMO it's very easy to say we could do better because it's not something anyone ever has to prove. I'm a bit astonished myself by the length of contract because, whilst I think he's right to stay and most of me is glad he is, I can't see why 4 years. However, it also gives us decent protection too and if in a year or so we want rid he still has a decent length left to run and will therefore still command a reasonable fee.
braddock Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 anyone who has a 2-3 year dip in form, then picks up his game when he realises he needs a new contract or a new club is a waster in my eyes. i would have been happy enough for him to stay had he signed about three weeks ago, but this has been ridiculous.
Blue n White Rover Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 Brilliant, 4 more years of utter garbage. Well done Rovers!
Backroom Tom Posted May 19, 2010 Backroom Posted May 19, 2010 I hope people give him a fair crack next season but it seems doubtful. People write him off as having done nothing but it's simply not true he may not n be as good as he was but he is still one of our more productive players on the whole.
