I love the NFC South because the other inhabitants are so thoroughly unlikeable. As a Panthers fan it's fun to talk football with Bucs, Saints or Falcons fans - they're generally muppets. It all adds to the spectacle. Sadly the Bucs are in a huge downward spiral at the moment and the Panthers have nailed their colours to the Fox/Delhomme mast, otherwise the quality of the division would match the banter.

Seriously? They're hardly Eagles or Cowboys fans. I find 90% of Saints fans here, or of any team on the SB Nation blogs to be modest and complimentary of other teams. If you're talking ESPN/Yahoo/MSN members, well, it's like comparing the comments on here with those on the LET website.

Watched most of the Wembley game on Sky, still trying to learn the basics from that Coach Stilo (thanks to those who mentioned it a while back when i asked- good thing i kept it bookmarked) site on the NFL and i am getting a copy of Madden for the Xbox.

Thinking i might try and pick a team and follow their progress as i've been told by some friends who are big fans of the sport that it might help.

I tried this NFL pick a team site that was set up for those who don't have a team to follow but have some interest in learning about the game (I think it was mainly set up for the Wembley game):

http://nfl-360.com/

Went through all three methods of picking a team, doubt the questions have much sway in what side it picks as its probably random. The Sports Match option 1 seemed the less stupid of the three choices in terms of what you had to do to come up with a team name.

Two of them came up with the Green Bay Packers (Sports Match and Gut Instinct) the (Locker Room) came up with San Francisco 49ers.

Should i go with what the random generator came up with? That team came up twice lol...

Is Green Bay a good option?

Green Bay are perennial heavy weights with great tradition and some superb talent (QB Aaron Rodgers, DT B.J. Raji, WR Greg Jennings, DE Aaron Kampman, LBs A.J. Hawk, Clay Matthews & Nick Barnett amongst others). A real old school, small town team they are the heart of their community. They play at the awesome Lambeau Field in the NFC North along with the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions which features many a snow-swept Monday night epic. :)

Of course as a Giants fan I'd recommend that team. They play in the ultra-competitive NFC East along with the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles. They're playing at Giants Stadium against the Arizona Cardinals on Five tonight if you're interested.

The Madden game will help your understanding no end.

Think i'll go with what it came up with then. On the actual site after it came up it said they are a small town but big team with some very decent history. I'll check out the game on Five as well.

Thanks for the info Rovermatt.

Giants sucking once again. I've no idea what what's happened since they were 5-0 but they simply cannot stop drives and can't get into the end zone on a consistent basis. Absolutely dreadful.

Main problem is injuries. Pundits blame Manning for turnovers but with no Bradshaw and Manningham he has no where to go. Nicks is a good option but he can't be relied upon. Smith is the go to man but it is to easy for teams to put a couple on him and then Eli has nothing else on. Jacobs can't do it all on his own unfortunately.

The defence needs to tighten up and losing Phillips seems to have completely blown the defence apart. I know there are a couple more injuries but teams are not even having to work for points and 1st downs.

The game next week is a must win going into the bye week. Lose and I think its time to bring through the draft picks to give them more game time.

Barden is probably very raw but a target that size wouldn't hurt Eli. Having said that he even managed to overthrow the 6'6" Boss yesterday.

It's bizarre. The team looks like it has been sucked of all confidence and ability. What's strange is that this isn't the result of a string of three losses. They were all over the place against the Saints three weeks ago on the back of a 5-0 start. Last week's dreadful performance against the Cardinals and yesterday's disastrous showing were more akin to a team that started 0-5. I know the first couple of opponents were pretty dreadful but it's the lack of confidence and swagger (a New York trait surely) that is most distressing.

As far as I'm concerned Eli is a top QB but the lack of creativity and urgency (which rests somewhat on the guy calling the plays) in yesterday's game was very worrying. The ease with which the oppostion has gained yardage and scores in the last three games is terrifying. The secondary is absolutely all over the place (only Webster looks in any way capable of covering his man) which I suppose is to be expected in the absence of the best safety (Phillips) and the best corner (Ross).

Most puzzling though is the reliance on the pass. The Giants are a running team and have one of the best backs in the league in Jacobs when it comes to gaining yards. Bradshaw is good but needs to be working against a defence that has had Jacobs running all over it. Instead, every second play sees Eli either under centre or in the gun, often throwing into double coverage. The defence will just eat that up in the absence of a bona fide deep threat. The Giants aren't even looking for short yardage either, nor throwing any screen passes. Eli is trying for 20 yard + strikes when all that is needed is 5 or 6. This is attributable though to the poor starts that the team is making. Conceding the first score means that the Giants have to play with a certain amount of urgency which really doesn't suit an offence used to a steady, deliberate pace for the purpose of protecting a lead and running down the clock.

The secondary is non existant at the moment and it can only be injuries because only 4 games ago they looked rock solid.

The running game is always massive for getting success, yet Jacobs had a few shakey games early on and they seem to have abandoned it in favour of passing to a weak WR line up. Nicks is definately improving and will be a top player but Smith, Manningham and Hixon are just make do players that can make some decent plays.

I had noticed the long passing attempts, if not taken it on board. Now you mention it every passing attempt is a big play. They need to bring it back to basics and what we are good at.

My main moan at Eli is his lack of awareness when it comes to the play clock. He often gets called on delay of the game and burns timeouts to save himself. He is a top QB, even in the middle of a really rough spell, with no WRs he gets over 200 yard games.
