Eddie Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I've been taking the Saints seriously all year, but you have to take them for what they are. They are run-and-gun with a limited defense. They can beat anyone, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them beaten by anyone left in it now. They probably match up poorly against the Colts and Cowboys and it would be an interesting shoot-out against the Chargers or Vikings.
American Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Got the over on Cards/Saints, the Colts giving the points, now just need the Jets to win or lose by less than 7 for a successful weekend.
Shevchenko Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Bears DE Gaines Adams dies at age 26 following a cardiac arrest this morning. Very sad news.

In what way do the Saints match up poorly with the Colts or Cowboys? Please back that up because most quality statistics show they are very similar. And is "run-and-gun" some shorthand for the most dangerous offense in the NFL?

The Cowboys, up until today at least, had the best defensive front line left in it and should have trouble any of the pass-first offenses. In the end they were unable to do today what they did so well against the Eagles, which was prevent the big play. Almost everyone now matches up poorly against the Colts. The Colts defensive performance last night was fantastic and they can stop both the run and the pass. Manning's offense should be able to pick apart a Saints defense which was ranked 25th this season.
modes98 Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Anyone want to take the Saints seriously now? I have taken them seriously from about week 6 when they ripped the Giants apart, a feat matched plenty of times since, but on Offence they have it all and a QB with the ability to rip apart any team. I am hoping for Colts v Vikings but I think Saints will be too much for Vikings next week.

Manning's offense should be able to pick apart a Saints defense which was ranked 25th this season. NFL team statistics are not a great indicator of team performance. Simple yardage isn't all that wins a game. Compare, say, the Colts gaining 5809 yards in the regular season to the Cowboys' 6390. But which team had a better offense? Everyone knows its was the Colts. Peyton doesn't fumble. They scored 416 points to Dallas' 361 and were far more efficient and reliable. Quality statistics give much greater insight as they have a direct correlation to winning football games. - So, in reality, the best D-line left in the playoffs yesterday was actually a coin-flip between the Jets and Vikings, ranked 3rd and 4th in the regular season. - The Saints ranked 15th in passing attempts, but 7th in rushing attempts. At what point were they a "pass-first" offense like, say, the Colts (2nd and 30th)? Drew Brees' achievements came on the back of the Saints finally establishing a great running game. - The Colts defense is ranked 30th for the season, to the Saints 15th. How is that a terrible match-up for New Orleans, or for anyone else? Not decrying Indy's chances, as I think they're still a great team, all stats aside.

modes98 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Good game first up. Colts class once again shines through. Shame my Fantasy league men Wayne and Clark didn't have the best games. Still that's one half of my week 6 superbowl prediction Colts v Vikings. Looking foward to this one up now! Should be a high scoring game.
American Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Raiders came out and denied reports that they have decided to keep Cable as their coach, saying a decision has yet to be made. Wow, that must make him feel wanted, even if they do bring him back.
ABBEY Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 cant believe theres talk that mcd wants to trade doooooooooooooooooooooom to the fish!
Rover9 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 It has been confirmed that there will be just the one international series game in London this coming season. Hopefully should get an e-mail through in the next day or so confirming tickets for the Bronco's v 49'ers game. Was hoping to get to see the Jags live for the first time, maybe next time
brfcjon Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 what a silly/weird game saints vs vikings is turning out to be. Who put soap on the ball?
Eddie Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Good watching, if not a very good game. Shame the Saints couldn't quite cover the spread...
ABBEY Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 as american put on facebook karma brett lol. bed 430 and builders next door at 9 ...GRRRRRRRRRRRREAT LOL
grizfoot Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 The Vikings must be kicking themselves at losing that game. The Saints weren't playing that well and the Vikings had numerous chances to capitalise on it, think they fumbled it three times and threw an interception in the dying seconds of normal time when a potential field goal kick was on. I bet Favre is aching this morning, he took some big hits. You've got to strongly fancy the Colts for the Superbowl based on last night's games.
sleepyjack Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 It's fair to say the Vikings played like the ball was a bar of soap, but turnovers are forced; they don't cause themselves. Indy is rightly the favourite for SB44 but here's hoping the Saints can pull off something special in two weeks.
