The Vikings must be kicking themselves at losing that game. The Saints weren't playing that well and the Vikings had numerous chances to capitalise on it, think they fumbled it three times and threw an interception in the dying seconds of normal time when a potential field goal kick was on. I bet Favre is aching this morning, he took some big hits.

You've got to strongly fancy the Colts for the Superbowl based on last night's games.

Saints were rank awful. For a team that has played so well all season long they had nothing working at all.

God knows what that final play call was about. Obvious run, and even if you don't get many yards then you run the clock down and have a go at the long kick to win.

I to have a feeling that the Saints have gone mentally and that the Colts are going to punish them big time. I hope not, as the Saints are better than that.

I think the Chargers have been planning to cut LT in this offseason anyway. He's due $5 million and has had reduced success year-on-year since his huge 2006 to the point where he only gained 3.3 YPC this season. He's burnt out both by age and by too many seasons with 350+ touches of the ball, which might have been easy at 23 but next season at 31 will be a different story.

The Saints had some balls and deserved the win, but can't help but feel that if that game were to be played another 10 times the Colts would win the majority, not that it really matters. Good story for the city, but the best team of the season lost tonight.

Yet the best team of the night won.

You sound stupid. I'd expand on it but what's the point?

That's an excellent point you raise, I must admit. The Saints were the best team on the night and they deserve it, no denying that. I had no particular interest in who won to be honest as I don't particularly like or dislike either of the teams, I just think it was fairly obvious over the course of the season that up until last night the Colts were the best team. Last night doesn't change that for me, but that really doesn't matter (same goes for say the Patriots in '08).

It wasn't the greatest Superbowl ever, but the Saints certainly were braver than most teams would be and that onside kick to start the half probably won them the game.

I think the Saints were better than the Colts for the 18 games preceding the Super Bowl, and most quality statistics support that, but there's no point presenting serious facts to win an argument when the media loves a Manning.

In other news, the Super Bowl was watched by more than 106 million people here in the US, surpassing the 1983 finale of MASH to become the most-watched program in television history.

And did anyone see The Who's halftime show? They were awful. If the NFL insist on having an overblown spectacle for half an hour every year, they seriously need to get over the Janet Jackson thing and let someone under 65 entertain everyone.

The Saints were the best team for the first 13 games of the season at which point they became decidedly underwhelming apart from the Cardinals games and last night. It looked as though teams had figured them out and they were lucky to get past the Vikings, basically doing their best not to win that match as the Vikings did their best to hand the ball to them (well, drop it to them at least) and then ultimately throw it to them. In that first quarter it looked like that trend was continuing, but two things changed that: Garcon dropping a pass when he had a step on his defender and at least 10 yards to run into and then the onside kick. Great for the city, great for the fans and it was a decent superbowl (a little like last year in the respect that the overall quality wasn't amazing but one or two moments made up for that).

Looking forward to next year.
