The Giants look good this year (the recent pre-season losses aside). Manning now has a contract that calls for him to step up and the defence is looking even more frightening this season. Losing Spagnuolo was a blow though. The emergence of Danny Ware to replace the departed Derrick Ward means the running game is just as healthy.

From SI.com, sums up Cutler the best:

I think he's better than that. He has a genuine chance of becoming a top 5 qb in the league, so to get that sort of trade is a great deal. Fact is the Bears couldn't win a superbowl with what they had, now they have a couple of pieces to the puzzle in place and, although they won't win it this year, they might be able to put together a good team in the next 3/4 years.

Cutler is not a winner - proven by the fact that under Plummer Denver had a great winning percentage, that suddenly went down when he was benched mid-season.

Talent does not always equal wins. See George, Jeff.

Nicks looked pretty decent vs jets but I still worry about the lack of quality in WR. Hoping Hixon can live up to his potential.

RB looks very strong, as does the defensive line.

I think we'll win the conference again but fall just short.

There appears to be great hope for the enormous Ramses Barden as a red zone threat and any time I watched them last season, Steve Smith stood out as a real go-to guy on third down. The key though is having a receiver, like Burress, who can draw double coverage. His absence last season really hurt the running game - clearly the Giants' main weapon - so it will be interesting to see if Manning gets to mix it up more now that Burress isn't around to open up the field for Jacobs and friends.

Barden is a big guy and management look at him as the next Burress.

Smith has never struck me as a good player, but I haven't really seen much of him.

Nicks could well be the real deal, he has good hands and apparently knows Eli better than he knows himself. He has to be the big player for me.

Loved Hixon last season, but he is not a #1.

Manning has to step it up and play like we know he can, he stuttered a little towards the end last season.

For those who might be interested I've set up a fantasy survivor league for BRFC. Basically you pick the winner of one match-up each week, the catch being that once you have selected a team to win one weekend they are no longer available for you to choose in any of the remaining weeks. Every time you make an incorrect pick you are given a strike, three and you are out, the winner is either the last man standing or the one with the fewest (or most recent in the case of a tie) strikes.

It's a yahoo league, Group ID# 15828 and password is BRFC.

Quick hitting thoughts:

- I'm not sold on Cutler, but it Bears watching (ugh, bad I know), it may work out for both sides

- Eagles are in shambles, O-line issues, is westbrook healthy, the McNabb-Vick issue waiting to blow up after a 2-game losing stretch

- Big year for Eli, does he follow his brother's hardwork footsteps, or does he do what many pro athelets do and slack after the big contract?

- Dallas as potential top NFC team?

- Brady's return in New England, he he 100%? If so, they will contend.

- Excited to see what TO can do in Buffalo for my Bills, but I'm not holding my breath, we're another 8-8 team.

predictions ...sb winners.

Got feeling the eagles dont know why but a gut feeling.

As for the broncs ive never felt such a bad feeling ....1-6 start and the next ince potted.

Just reading a book about the Cowboys in the 90s and the parallels are interesting between them and the Broncos:

Legend of a coach gets fired - check.

Young upstart gets hired - check.

Falls out with established players - check.

Uses first round pick from next draft possibly not as good as what they can get the next year if they do poorly - check.

Cowboys went 1-15 the first season under Jimmy Johnson, but the rest is history. I still have a feeling that Denver will do better than expected this season.

Just looking at the NFL schedule showing on SkySports and they seem to have a lot less games than last year for some reason. Any ideas why? Could be that they are only putting a few up and will add to it. Seems strange last year they had about 5 games on a Sunday including red button games, this time only 2. Don't seem to have Monday night games either. Just wondered if anyone had heard or read anything that would explain.

There is also a lot of talk of ESPN getting the games that would have been on the red button on sky last season.

Might be enough to really push ESPN for me, although I need to get the girlfriend into NFL as she hates me watching it.

Sunday night's game is Chicago -v- Green Bay.

I'm going to buy a week-pass tomorrow on NFL.com. You get access to all games for a week.

You should get the season gamepass. Had it last year. WELL worth the money.

Got it this year as well. It is truly very awesome.
