Get on the coach its free!

Take yourself a 2 litre (or more) bottle of coke - take out half of the contents and replace with vodka. Im sure you will have enough inside you then by the time you get to the game. Thats what we do if we have to go on the coaches.

yeah we experienced going on the coaches to middlesborough this year. had always previously gone on trains to have a good drink. anyways three of us managed to get 6 cans a piece on board and drunk without any problems at all. none see through bag, paper coffee mugs from mackies to drink from and was sat roughly half way back, easily done.

Without wanting to sound a killjoy, if the police decide to do a random stop and check and alcohol is found and suspected of being drunk, they can turn the coach around, stopping it getting to the match, and fine the inviduals, the coach company and the club.

You won't be hugely popular...

Never going to be drunk in that amount of time. Will always try and do my best to avoid looking obvious but the chances of the scenrio youve suggested are very slim at best. Thanks for the warning though, may have to be more careful in future.

It's not a person being drunk that's the crime, it's the alcohol itself being transported and even the tiniest little swig.

Remote chance, perhaps, but there are plenty of cases of this happening since the law was introduced.

I am certain some Dingle caches have been stooped by the police and been tuned back for having beer on. But you could have the moan u situation where the guy thought he was going to the toilet but ending up going out of the emergency exit on the Motorway. I don't think that driver and passengers were happy.

Will it be to late to get the tickets at Euston in London? Should I reserve?

It's always better to buy in advance, although given it's only a few days now most of the cheap tickets will be gone. Book online at ether Virgin or National Rail. Advance tickets are the cheapest if available but bear in mind you have to travel on the specified trains for these. With an off-peak fare you can travel on any train, which might be important coming back. You can buy online and pick up the tickets at the machines at Euston.

If you buy at Euston on the day, it will cost you £54.70 for an off peak return.

If you book advance tickets today with Virgin you will save £14.70 on the above fare (£26 northbound and £14 southbound advance tickets available at time of writing, conditions described by O2G above).

If you book northbound with London Midland (slow train, takes an hour longer than Virgin) you can get that for £14 so can do the round trip for a total of £28 - but you will need to book these advance tickets asap.

If you wanted to miss the last 20 mins of the game, you can do the round trip for £20.

Simples ....

(PS I'd use www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com to book, it has a better layout than the other companies, and puts all the options side by side. Tickets collected from the machines with your credit card and an 8 digit PIN code, as per O2G's post).

We have stopped in the Weathervane several times on visits to Alton Towers and it's pretty much the same as a Travelodge, just a bit cheaper with a decent sized bar and food :rover:

If anyone else is stopping over and wants to share a taxi from here, please pm me

Thanks for the help so far

With the game getting closer is anyone at all staying over in the area and wanting to share a taxi?

If not, do you have any more numbers for decent and reliable taxi firms in the area dopper69?

Thanks a lot.

A few taxi numbers:

01782 314315 (This is the one I use the most but I can't remember what it is called might be North Staffs)

01782 328720 (Four Star - Located on Utoxeter road near to The Weathervane)

01782 333333 (Lucky Star)

01782 844444 (City Cabs)

I've used all the above in varying states of drunkness and have never had a problem. Should be around £5 from either The Weathervane or Stoke Station to The Brittania Stadium

I presume you can just catch a cab when you arrive at the train station, or do you need to order one?

Also, is the ground open from 2pm, or any earlier? (if you want a drink, as there appears to be no other options!).

The best taxi service we used to use was Sids, NEVER use roseville! Charge loads and are rubbish. Number for Sids is : 01782 713 999 (from google, lost old #). After 4 years there these are the best taxis and were the cheapest and most reliable.

I think if you get a taxi outside Crewe station it'll cost over £20 so may be cheaper if theres a group of you going to split the taxi and get train from preston to crewe.

Enjoy the day, wish I was going! Well i dont really cos im off t'egypt :D
