Hughesy Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 What about a big charity event - like cycle accross an african safari? You can even get them for free if you raise decent money. What about watch England live in a major tournament or maybe watch a European cup final. Or maybe go to a famous derby game like Barca v Madrid? As for the career thing - What is it you do?

T4E Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 What about a big charity event - like cycle accross an african safari? You can even get them for free if you raise decent money. What about watch England live in a major tournament or maybe watch a European cup final. Or maybe go to a famous derby game like Barca v Madrid? As for the career thing - What is it you do? I was intending to tie a charity thing in with the one endurance thing I do, currently leaning towards a marathon. Not sure I've got the patience to train for a marathon though. I'm Scottish so have absolutely no interest in seeing England in a major tournament, and am very unlikely to get the chance with my own country! I'm a telecomms consultant, I work as a contractor going from project to project - so the only real goal there is to keep that going for as long as possible and try not to have too much time off in between contracts. Bellars - nice one - whilst I would actually like to own the book, I think I may buy it and allow it to gather dust while I read the installments at that link.
T4E Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 Right, I'm up to 21, but as you'll see I'm starting to scrape the barrell so need some new impetus. Might have to bite the bullet and add the marathon. 1. Achieve atleast a brown belt in Ju Jitsu 2. Have a golf handicap of 10 or less 3. Learn to speak fluent Spanish 4. Read War and Peace 5. RibbleValleyRover Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Some interesting things on your list there Tugay4England. Thinking of drawing up a list myself of things i want to achieve by the time i hit a similar age, hit 26 today so i need to get a move on.
dave birch Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Seeing as you're down here doing this: 19. Scuba dive off the Great Barrier Reef Why not Go to Uluru (Ayers Rock) and climb that? (Traditional owners allowing , of course) Or Visit Kakadu, Or do the bridge climb (Sydney Harbour Bridge).
Shevchenko Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 This is going to sound preachy and whatnot but... If you are serious about taking up a martial art or doing such an activity for a while, you should not enter into it with the ambition or ambitions that you should reach a certain level within a certain set time - be it weeks, months or years. If you do this you are not learning martial arts but training to meet the requirements of the test to make that level you want. You will not learn the art you are practicing. To take on a martial art and follow the way takes patience, discipline and a willingness to let the teachings of the way you choose to influence everything that you do in your life. Enter into it with this in mind and you will reach whatever level you want with time and you will have a better understanding of the way you choose to follow.
Hughesy Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Your Scottish and you havent attended an old firm game? OMG!!! Or is it just at Ibrox you havent?? Iv been to 4 old firms up there. All my dads side of the family are from Hamilton.

Its not something I'm only just taking up for the sake of the list, its something I already do and enjoy but want to take more seriously, therefore have decided to set a goal. There are minimum timescales for grading, the brown belt minimum is 2 years, so I have set that goal over 5 years so that not everything I do is aimed towards being that good just for the sake of achievement. My actual goal is to still be doing Ju Jitsu, still learning and enjoying it in 5 years time, if that happens my grade will be a moot point. Your Scottish and you havent attended an old firm game? OMG!!! Or is it just at Ibrox you havent?? Iv been to 4 old firms up there. All my dads side of the family are from Hamilton. No, never been to one at Parkhead or Ibrox. It's really something I need to do. I very much doubt I could ever do 200 kick ups, and if I managed 29 of the things on the list and failed a football one that would really nark me off!

Fear of failure, tsk. Make it 100 then. I'm about as bad at football as anyone can be, and I've done 100. Or change it to something similar like a few of those Maradona kickups or being able to catch the ball on the back of your neck.
only2garners Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I've managed 7 off your long list: - Married Two boys Watched Rovers away in Europe Driven in many foreign countries Walked on the Great Wall Been to the Grand Canyon -not the Skywalk though. Go to the North Rim - it's much quieter and more atmospheric Thrown a 180 I'll also claim a part score for my a bit better than basic Spanish I've been to Vegas twice but not put so much as a quarter on anything there - mug's game 6 of those I did before I was 30. Rovers away in Europe before 30 would have been impossible for me, unless it had been a friendly. Most of the others on your list I've no interest in. I'm told by my wife that the juggling is easy assuming you have two good eyes, arms and hands. You can teach yourself in a few hours. If you're thinking of adding the Three Peaks there are two of them. One is the one mentioned which is one long day's walk. The other is Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis. A complete waste of time in my opinion and environmentally destructive - much better to climb a few more interesting mountains.
T4E Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 Interesting o2g - what is the basis for your opinion on Snowdon/Scafell Pike/Ben Nevis? Would be fun to find out how many if the things on the list others have done. Is Route 66 still open/driveable? Wikipedia is a bit confusing.....
Jim J Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I got a parachute jump for my 30th, absolutely loved it, and I'm s**t scared of heights, click on my sig if you want to watch it. Also, I've managed a hole in one when I was younger, but imagine you could be trying for that for the rest of your life
T4E Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 I had a hole in one when I was 11, otherwise I would include that for sure. I think you've confused your parachute jump video with Avid Merrions..................
Eddie Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Don't bother with Route 66, not what it once was. I would like to one day go on a road trip across the States and have that one in the plans, stopping to meet up with all my friends in their hometowns. I'd put a trip like that on the list, although I'd probably go somewhere a bit more exotic or adventurous. Maybe a road/bus/train trip across Africa, Asia or South America.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Do a Bill Bryson and walk the Appalachian(sp?) trail. Now that is a real challenge.
T4E Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 Not sure what that is, but someone else mentioned the Inca Trail. Dont know much about that either but at first glance it looks like it could take a while.
broadsword Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 hope its better than the ince trail I hear that's a steep descent.
thenodrog Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 hope its better than the ince trail Don't you mean Ince trial? He should be charged with impersonating a football manager.
colin Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Possibly a little confusion over the three peaks. The one I suggested was Ben Nevis; Sca Fell; & Snowdon. You know what they are. No need to do them in one go. The other one is Whernside; Pen Y Ghent & Ingleborough. Alfred Wainwright has a walk that does them in a day. I did them over two days with mates & an overnight stop in a pub. Lots more fun. Ingleborough with a raging hangover is more of a challenge. Don't be afraid to be an older dad. I'm one & it's great. Went to my nephew's son's christening at the weekend. Rabbits in the headlights & all that. All the best with the list of things to do.
dave birch Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 If you're into decent walks, there's one in NZ south Island, if you get that far. It's called the Milford Track, takes four days (there are huts to stay in), you have to book to get on it. Some absolutely stunning scenery.
