Majiball Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Here are the rules on handball. "a DIRECT free kick is awarded........if a player....handles the ball deliberately (except the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)" Some spectators and players seem to forget or have never realised the need for it to have been deliberate. Some take the view that if an advantage has come from the ball hitting the hand then a free kick has to given whether deliberate or not. This is not the case. Just as a penalty may not be given if a striker blasted a ball from close range onto a defenders hand within the goal area then neither would a goal be disallowed if a defender blasted a ball against an attackers hand that ended up in the net. UNLESS in the opinion of the referee the hand/arm was deliberately moved into the path of the ball. It must always be remembered that it will be in the opinion of the referee. That opinion will be affected by his/her position and distance from the incident. Remember England v Argentina in the World Cup, 'The Hand Of God' Diego Maradona v Shilton! We can all make mistakes and whilst a die hard fan might be being seeing red , the likes of Premiership Referee Graham Poll (yes even Graham Poll) make them! Givet does not move his arm its by his side at the start and its there when the ball hits it. Its never a penalty how the lino didn't see it either I will never know. All I can say is I hope he watches it and sees his mistake and decides to even it up.
G Somerset Rover Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 One question: where the hell is a goal going to come from for us?! We look devoid of ANY creativity. Ooijer on for Roberts - WTF?!!..so were playing with one striker at home, whilst losing 1-0.
beerwins Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Oijer warming up. That can only mean 4,5,1 andrews in centre mid samba up front !
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Ooijer on Roberts off Samba up front?, Bloody hell he is! Our best defender up front...
Bobby G Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Cant believe we take Roberts off and bring on Ooijer when we couldve brought on Villanueva or even Treacy. Calf injury to MGP and foot injury to Roberts. Samba is up front according to the commentator!
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Has Warnock made any runs forward yet? Surely his role in that midified is to play box-to-box.
rover6 Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 If this isnt a game for Carlos Villanueva then there is no point putting him on the bench. Maybe he will come on but I suspect that he won't be used. I still think that Villaneuva on the bench is a PR stunt by Allardyce - mainly for the fans. It seems to indicate that he values skilful play - which he doesn't.
G Somerset Rover Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 The only way we'll get anything is through lumping a ball high and getting a flick on. It really is dreadful football. We have no creativity, no guile and no pace.
Tango Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 This current situation begs the question: why was Derbyshire loaned out?
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 The only way we'll get anything is through lumping a ball high and getting a flick on. It really is dreadful football. We have no creativity, no guile and no pace. No midfield, what do you expect. We are going down and deserve to, worst midfield in the league.
beerwins Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Mokoena nearly knocked palacios out , good lord the mans a menace and a liability. Also samba is the best player we have on the pitch in cen defense and up front , just goes to show what kind of football we are playing.
Amo Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Maybe he will come on but I suspect that he won't be used. I still think that Villaneuva on the bench is a PR stunt by Allardyce - mainly for the fans. It seems to indicate that he values skilful play - which he doesn't. Tugay's coming on now, so that's another game where Carlos is wasted.
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 lol, Jenas tries to move his arm away and the ball hits him= no freekick.
G Somerset Rover Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 No midfield, what do you expect. We are going down and deserve to, worst midfield in the league. It's true, our midfield is truly woeful - but our attack is not much better without RSC. This is painful to watch.
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 If Roberts has an injury that means he can't play a game or two, Roque might not play again this season, Derbs out on loan, then that just leaves us with fat Benni to score enough goals to keep us up...
Tango Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 This is one of the worst games of football I've ever had the misfortune of watching. We're totally devoid of any quality whatsoever and in that respect we'll be well suited to the Championship.

We're totally devoid of any quality whatsoever and in that respect we'll be well suited to the Championship. Agreed. Can't see where the goals are going to come from. That's why I wanted us to throw Carlos on, because at least he's a threat at set-pieces.
BRFC1995 Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 had us on the predictor as losing this and staying up by a point needing to win last day...................looks a certainty everything will rest on wba game now
