Just watching North West tonight and see that Dave Whelan has bought the struggling JJB organisation back, including putting up his own money to pay back the debts the previous owners ran up. Seems like a good bloke who cares about Wigan and the people that work for JJB, and clearly no fool. Rare. Like Jack though, unlikely to be honoured because he's northern through and through

I hear they are going to rename the the JJB, the DW stadium from the summer too.

Indeed. Knighthoods are for ancient drug raddled popstars, queer actors, the occasional retired footballer. Oh and with more than a few arse-licking politicians gofer like Bill Taylor chucked in every year.

I haven't read what DW has actually bought, but I had previously read that he was planning to buy the fitness clubs.

For our younger members, he used to play for us, before he became very rich.

I think he has just bought the 53 gyms and 51 adjacent shops and will rename them under the DW brand

And I think he may have wiped the slate clean for JJB`s other shops and they will retain their name

There's also a story around Mike Ashley put pressure on JJB landlords to make it difficult or impossoble for Whelan to do the deal
