What do you think Lampard does in that Chelsea team? Watch him on Saturday, very few attacks go threw him. He puts the yards in, but all he does with the ball is keep the move flowing. Obviously he's got a ridiculous goal scoring record, but that's because he's free to arrive late from midfield and he's very clever about it.

Not that he's a bad player, he's obviously very good at what he does - he's just not incredible like the media would have you believe.

I don't really like Frank, typical wide boy like Terry imo, but he is a very decent footballer - if not quite in the same league as Gerrard and Rooney. Great pass on him, great movement, deadly long shooting and finishing, extremely quick feet and good technique. He is also a lot more mobile than Dunn is. He scores all those goals because he is an excellent player in the final third. He also sets up an extraordinary amount. Chelsea build their team around him - even though they have the money to easily replace him several times over - because he is brilliant at what he does, and has been so in 5 different tactical systems with 5 different managers.

You can't really argue with that.

Dunn is going amazingly well (best football of his career by a pretty big margin) but still he doesn't really have a chance with the England team. No point in kidding ourselves. The competition is too strong and at 29 he is out of the "one for the future" bracket.

Dunn shoul dbe offered a contract - he is our best player, he has performed for 6 games now. I guess the issue is how long we sign him on for. He will want 4 years. JW is probably thinking - with his injury record - more like 2. Could be sticky.

I was just thinking before...

Remember in Hughes' final season when we were playing 4-2-3-1 with Bentley behind Santa Cruz? Imagine what a team we'd have been if Dunn had been playing in the free role with Bentley out wide and Santa Cruz up top!

Hughes missed a trick there it seems.

Unless I'm mistaken Dunn has been awarded the man of the match in every home game except for Villa when, in most peoples eyes, he was still man of the match.

He's opening a watch stall on 'arrod market on Friday! :D

Only a month ago, a new contract for Dunny in negotiation would have been met with cries on here of a waste of money and an unnecessary risk on a perpetual crock...

Agree - makes sense for us to wait. He's blue n white through n through and im sure Sam has told him he will get a deal aslong as he can prove his fitness....He's doing fantastic at the moment, but we need to see that continue for a couple of months 1st.

Those that had no time for Ince should be grateful that Dunn's injury record is as poor as it is. He started last season well - you never know if hadn't got injured so early in the season - Ince may still be manager

He stayed well through Hughes' reign (oh - Hughes had qualified guys taking targeted training) got injured when Ince took over (oh wait- training consisted of running about a bit and doing press-ups supervised by a couple of pensioners) and is fit for Allardyce (who has targeted training with qualified guys). With Ince there was NO CHANCE of Dunny being fit. He'd also probably have played him as goalie.

Proof will be in the pudding 5.30 pm on Saturday evening wont it.

Dunny versus Fat Frank.

That's only true if they were both playing against the same players! Chelsea's superior quality means its harder for Dunn to shine than Lampard. For a start Di Santo won't be up there with him.

Yes I thought the same. No references to Dunn being a waste of resources anymore and nobody prefers Ince when we win!

I don't think there's any rush to give him a new deal. I don't think he'll be keen to leave so we have a few months or so to bide our time. He's been fantastic for us this year, his best form for some time, if he keeps this up he'll definitely be deserving of a new deal. There's also the new rules with english players coming in soon, I'm not sure exactly where we stand on that one with our current squad but being english and homegrown will surely play into it as well.

The only worry is the ongoing injury concerns, if he can put that behind him then he'll have a great season and I agree has an outside shot of the WC. Right now though I just want to see him stay injury free and keep up his form for Rovers. A new deal will naturally happen if he keeps that up.

Come on Dunny!

bloody hell that was one dirty game

An equally bad but less spectacular assault was carried out by Payton in the second half following through on Brad Freidel when Brad already had hold of the ball. Not much was said about that but it was dangerous, intended to cause serious injury, thuggish and cowardly.

Dunn named here as one of three players with an outside chance of making the world cup squad. Warnock and Nugent are the others.

Nugent ffs?!?

Dunny hasn't a chance unless injury plays a huge part. There are too many good players before him. Warnock is a much stronger shout with only Ashley Cole in front of him imo.

Nugent?! Hahahahaha!

Warnock has a good shout, but Dunn would need three or four midfielders to pick up injuries to stand even the smallest chance of making the squad.

Nugent played his part in Burnley's first goal but was otherwise anonymous. True of most of them I'm pleased to say!

£ for £ probably Mark Hughes' worst signing.

He would have been on a free 5 months after we shelled out good money for him, and we certainly didn't get 1.5 million quids worth of value out of Dunn between January and June 2007.

Or any time since. Has he ever managed to string more than half a dozen consecutive games together?

I can't believe that he's fallen out with the manager though ... that would put BFS in the same boat as Souness <img src="http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rover.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rover:" border="0" alt="rover.gif" /> the guy is never fit,and if a club is willing to pay any amount i would take it,replace him with a ageing has been,just like bfs does <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/brfcsmilie.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":brfcsmilie:" border="0" alt="brfcsmilie.gif" />

Hughes and co were certainly good at keeping players fit, but with someone like Dunn I think it was more luck than anything else, he's had injury problems under too many managers now for it to be more than that. He's a sick note and would be hugely unpopular if he wasn't from the area. Undoubtedly possesses enough talent to play in this league, but no player is worth keeping around for 4 good appearances a season. If anyone is willing to buy him then I would certainly say it should be done. He must be on decent wages, so the transfer fee plus a reduction in the wage bill would be a smart move for the club. Getting rid of Dunn, Grella and Reid this summer should be one of the top priorities for the club. We can't afford to be leaking wages with players like that, even if it does keep our medical staff on their toes.

Great insight guys! :wstu:

Hindsight is a wonderful thing though. I doubt many would have seen Dunn's run of form coming in view of his lack of appearances and the fact that every time he came back he broke down again. Reid is still not really back and Grella hasn't stayed fit although I know his latest injury is an international duty one. There were more suggesting we might do well to get rid of at least one of the 3 than you've picked out here.

There is probably about a dozen posts from me over the past two years or so suggesting that Dunn is finished at this level, and I must hold my hands up and say that was even on an ability level, not just based on injuries. I couldn't have been more wrong, and thinking to how good he was pre Birmingham, you wonder how good the player could have been had he avoided injuries throughout the key periods of his career?

Credit must go to Allardyce for getting Dunn fit, and finding a system which brings out the best in him. It is pretty important that we get this contract issue sorted before January, or we could be in for a hairy few months.

Ability is never ever lost. Dunny has always been a top player and up there with Joe Cole in terms of ability and possibly even ahead in terms of 'thinking'. His problems have been attitude based to a small extent and fitness based to a large extent. I still hold my breath at times when he is in the thick of it.

Hindsight my foot.I said all last season that the injury Dunn suffered at the hands of Hull was not the same old injury that has blighted his career.Secondly Dunn showed how important he was to us when he played through the pain barrier in the latter stages of last season to help save us from relegation. Remember the Spurs game?

Thirdly and most unbelievably of all Rovers "fans" continue to have a go at Dunn now, after all thats happened this season! Have a look at the McCarthy thread and you can read from Tris and others how fat and slow Dunn is ,how his chief motivation is food, how he's too slow to hold down a "normal" central mid-field position etc etc.

How can our best player in the form of his life be slagged off by his own fans in this way? It is truly shameful. Is it because he's local and they are jealous?
