JAL Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Seen a projection that Newcastle United will make a loss of £50m next season. Only Owen and Viduka are out of contract leaving 13 players each earning individually more than Newcastle's entire Championship TV rights are worth. Four players' contracts alone swallow up the parachute payment for next season. Leeds, Leicester, Norwich, Southampton and Charlton have all gone Premier League to League One in three seasons or less within the last three years. Grim in the Toon just now. Looks like a one way ticket Philipl, hopefully Rovers management can protect themselves from this happening to Rovers. Anyone taking these Newcastle players on their current wages would be extremely foolish, but then again it is a culture in Britain to reward failure.

den Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Haven't read the last few pages, but weren't you one of the people defending Sam for playing a weak squad in the FA Cup? Speaking of no respect.... I said I could understand it, not that I agreed with it. Nor did it affect any teams relegation. Totally different. Blimey American............ you are hard work sometimes.
1864roverite Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Perhaps Nicko or Kamy can look into the claim from the North East that the barcodes have put 26 players on the transfer list including Owen, Viduka, smith, barton, enrique, collicini, ameobi, duff, bassong, butt and martins. The only players of the current crop who wont be on the list Nolan, Harper, Beye, Taylor and Taylor ! That is some firesale
1864roverite Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 newcastle about to issue a statement from Mike Ashley, due shortly Statement issued. Ashleyaccepts full responsibility for relegation. Thanks the fans, apologises to staff, raved about Shearer - best decision he ever made. talks ongoing about the future.
b12_simon Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Bwaah bwaaah bwaaaah. Sorry I c0cked it up. Our fans are great, our staff are great and Shearer's a great manager. When will the laughter end?
Backroom DE. Posted May 26, 2009 Backroom Posted May 26, 2009 What a rubbish statement. Pointing out the obvious, well done fatman.
Backroom Tom Posted May 27, 2009 Backroom Posted May 27, 2009 not exactly orignal but this still made me laugh:
American Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I said I could understand it, not that I agreed with it. Nor did it affect any teams relegation. Totally different. Blimey American............ you are hard work sometimes. My wife tells me that all of the time! This didn't affect any relegations either. Unfortunately, such is the power of United in the Premiership that their second team would probably finish top half and might even qualify for Europe. Either way, both are examples of managing the full squad at your disposal - look at what happened to Everton playing a full squad - lost a couple of players for this weekend's final.
Gav Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 To the tune of Blaydon Races They all went down to Birmingham On the 24th of May Hoping God would smile on them Upon the Sabbath day Proud as punch in stripey shirts Cream of the Geordie nation Ganning along to Villa Park To see the relegation Chorus: Oh me lads, you should've seen them crying Watching the shambles on the pitch Premier dreams a'dying All the lads and lasses there All had gloomy faces Ganning doon to the Championship With aal of Shearer's aces Now way back in September They told a different tale Old King Kev was back in charge How could the buggers fail? But then along came Dennis Wise Who dared to travel norf Kevin didn't like the tw*t And quickly buggered orf! Chorus Oh me lads! I think they need a genie Owen unfit, Xisco's sh*t and what of Collocini? Given was a great keeper but left the sinking ship And Harper will be canny good Doon in the Championship Now after Keegan scarpered They all cried in their beer But fear not, up next they got good old Joe Kinnear He fecking came and fecking got the tw*ts to play their best Then who'd a fecking thought it, fecking cardiac arrest Chorus Oh me lads, the bugger's in the Freeman Ashley's scared to watch a game The fans are all a steamin' And I will not apologise for nasty tasteless quips It'll do the buggers good to be doon in the championship With poor Joe confined to bed For his recuperation They wondered who could be the man To save the 'Geordie Nation' Who could turn this team around Before they turned to violence? Hughton got the nod and came out To the sound of silence Chorus Oh me lads! I'm ganna chuck me seat The mackems beat us at their place And now we've had to cheat Then aal the toon went on the hoy And got themselves all plastered And raised a glass to Taylor who's A cheating diving b*stard! Ashley looked around and saw the damage that they'd done He'd lost a couple of hundred mill For every game they'd won He sank another pint in one And had a revelation Mary Poppins is the one To save the Geordie Nation Chorus Oh me lads! The Toon are aal but dead Obafemi's injured (or at least that's what he said) Ah can't believe with Alan boss We haven't got much higher Or is he just like Keegan Just another false messiah Chorus Oh me lads! The Toon are in the clarts No more trips to Anfield Now it's off to foreign parts Tell aal the cheeky mackems That this story isn't over Follow the Toon Army AND.. We'll watch Doncaster Rovers!
BiggusLaddus Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Newcastle apparently have no relegation clauses in their players contracts, ROFLMAO, administration beckons. Isn't there wage bill in the 70M's, Shearer walked into an impossible situation but I'd like him to stay on at Newcastle. He can serve his apprenticeship there before coming to a big club like ROVERS!!!!!! I've read on a Newcastle forum somewhere that if they have no drop in crowds then their projected turnover for next season will be between £50-60m, and also as you stated that the wage bill alone currently stands at over £70m. I've just seen in the BBC gossip page that they have put a big price on Bassong (£15m), but they are in position to be dictating terms and if they don't realise that now they will do by the back end of the summer.
EwoodGlory Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I heard yesterday regarding the Shearer and Ashley talks "they are a million miles apart". What a surprise
Blue blood Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Read about the 15 million for Bassong, but given the player wants out (he said as much before they were relegated) and the club is in financial peril they'll be lucky to get half of that amount. A slow start in the Championship next season could well finish them off. Gav that song is class.
jodrell Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I heard yesterday regarding the Shearer and Ashley talks "they are a million miles apart". What a surprise SSN saying a decision one way or the other today.

American Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 We've said that about relegated players before (Defoe, Heskey, Pennant), but if a club holds on, they can get near the price they want. Unless of course, it's true about having 1 year left...
jodrell Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Does the big club Know what they are doing? N.O.W. reporting ALAN SHEARER is ready to quit Newcastle and take over at West Brom. http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/3474...-West-Brom.html
EwoodGlory Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I've heard Shearer has been offered the Sheff Utd job, as Blackwell is soon to be axed. I would expect Gary Speed could be his number 2 if it go's through.
EwoodGlory Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 They sneaked a win yesterday, but not sure it's enough to save Blackwell. SHEARER IN FRAME FOR BLADES ROLE Beckford is his first transfer target should it happen.
thenodrog Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 They sneaked a win yesterday, but not sure it's enough to save Blackwell. SHEARER IN FRAME FOR BLADES ROLE Beckford is his first transfer target should it happen. Shearer will not go unless he has a huge amount of money to spend. They've prob got a bob or two of WHU's burning their pockets but Shearers not good enough to do that wisely, and imo he's not managerial material either. He has no experience of the lower leagues. We've seen all this crap before with Roy Keane, Paul Ince, Bryan Robson etc..... even as far back as Bobby Charlton at PNE! This could break Sheff Utd if it all goes tits up.
