JAL Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 This used to quite common, especially when the standard of football was less than riveting. The BBE would split into two halves, one chanting Celtic the other Rangers, and after a while it ended up in a big brawl. That going back to the early to mid seventies ozzie, what about the 'we are the left side', 'we are the right side' at the back of the Blackburn end.

Mr Maureen Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Here's a totally bonkers Rovers song, "Barmy army, barmy army, barmy army"etc etc etc. Nothing further from the truth.
rovgers Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 think you might have the words bonkers and boring mixed up!
CAPT KAYOS Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 For Bonkers songs, I remember going to away games were some of the rovers fans would start shouting Rangers, to be followed by others shouting Celtic, I hope somebody else remembers that happening and its not just my memory going! No your memory is in full working order and I remember it well (per se 'Riverside Riverside give us a song') I used to sing Partick in response though Another one that springs to mind is 'oh i do like to be beside the seaside'
rovgers Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 yeah I remember that one when we played west brom!
CAPT KAYOS Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 yeah I remember that one when we played west brom! That's the bonkers about it - was sung against others not just against the Baggies or Blackpool for that matter.
mellison24 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Surely we've forgotten the most obvious bonkers song of all?? You'll never walk alone has nowt to do with liverpool and was originally sung in tribute to munich 58 by ManUtd.....but its nowt to do with football AT ALL!!! It's from the musical 'carousel' ffs!!
whittle blue Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 How about these two golden oldies- The Tennessee Wig Walk (early 70's) and from the late 60's, The Jimmy Fryatt song (sung to the tune of Lily the Pink)

A quick Google explains that one - In the 1960's the DJ at Liverpool's Anfield would play the top ten albums in order, with the number one album of the time being You'll Never Walk Alone playing last, right before game time. The fans took to singing it even after the album dropped from the top ten and the "anthem" has stuck ever since. Celtic, Hibernian, Feyenoord, and FC Twente have also adopted the song.

Interesting....u learn something new everyday!! So lets look at the charts....shall we adopt Pokerface by Lady Gaga? or maybe perhaps aptly 'Broken Strings' by james morrison? And yes, that IS tongue-in-cheek. but the 'interesting' comment was genuine T4E!!

I thought Feyenoord had their own crazy Euro pop track that we've adopted and still occasionally sing at away games. Mint
AggyBlue Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 and from the late 60's, The Jimmy Fryatt song (sung to the tune of Lily the Pink) I remember 'Jim, Jim, bang one in '
American Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 It seems like every club pretty much have the same 3-6 chants, just replacing the club name or team colors.
JAL Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 What about the song around the full members cup time, Here we go, here we go, here we go Here we go, here we go , here we go repeat, repeat, repeat. What all that about, were did we go ?
Sparky Marky Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 "You're going home in a St John's Ambulance!" What happened to that..? When opposition scored...."You're gonna get your f***** heads kicked in!!!"" Brilliant.

Celtic fans claim the song was theirs until after a friendly game Liverpool "stole" it - some things never change
rovgers Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I'd heard that Utd fans first sung this song soon after the Munich air crash, I found this article which sheds a different light on the matter...... YNWA first sung by the Mancs?
iamarover Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 So how do you do, young Willie McBride? Do you mind if I sit here down by your graveside? And sit for a while 'neath the warm summer sun I've been walking all day and I'm nearly done I see from your gravestone you were only 19 When you joined the great Fallen in 1916 I hope you died well and I hope you died clean After the Rovers won the League in 1914 Did they beat the drum slowly did they play the pipes lowly Did they sound the Death March as they lowered you down? Did the band play The Wild Rover to tears now? Did they sing No Nay Never for the Ro ho ho vers.
rovgers Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Just thought of another bonkers song, the Rangers song-the bluebells are blue. just singing the line - oh the bluebells are blue - over and over!

The day I hear the crowd at Ewood singing anything by The Men They Couldn't Hang (even though it's a traditional ditty isn't it?) is the day I'll join Presty counting every blade of grass on the pitch .
T4E Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Is that sung to the tune of "Valery" by Amy Winehouse? No. Original song - Celery, Celery, If she don't come I'll tickle her bum with a lump of celery, Celery, Celery, If you love your mum then tickle her tum with a lump of celery, Celery, Celery, If Damian Duff wont tickle her muff we'll bring on Geremi. These days it hardly gets past the first two lines. Just thought of another bonkers song, the Rangers song-the bluebells are blue. just singing the line - oh the bluebells are blue - over and over! Up there with "If you canny dae the bouncy yer a Tim"
67splitscreen Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Don, Don bang one in. Barry Hole gives a goal.
