ABBEY Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 We'll just keep it at the railway station then Abbey as you are too short sighted to see the big picture. The residents of Ewood complained when the ground was originally redeveloped and when Furnhurst Farm was build. they complained about the bookies, Aldi and MacDonalds being built, They complained about the forming of the permanent travellers camp but all went ahead and have done no harm to the area. Although not ideal, the position of Ewood Park has lots of potential for redevelopment. A hotel and leisure facilities is possible looking at the land owned by BRFC as Blackburn is lacking hotels, the upgrade of the Riversyed (sorry mhead) is a safe bet if Syed takes over. As for the veiw, do you often complain about views from hotels? What's wrong with somebody seeing the Manxman from their hotel window? What on earth do you expect to see out of a hotel room in Blackburn? Sydney Opera House? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain? ok i see the big picture ....ewood is the the next chelsea !

Hughesy Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Abbey…. Empty seats…im well aware of that – however as its part of the plans, im just suggesting what I feel are the best plans in my view. 45k is way too much, so max of 38k. Hotels with excellent conference suits are used all the time by businesses….also the gym/ spa would be used every day by members Car Park – wouldn’t take long – as there wouldn’t be a barrier coming out….you simply pay a set fee when you go in, no need for ticket machines, barriers etc as there would be someone manning the entrance and taking the fees as you go in. Aslong as there are plenty of exits & the traffic is stopped, giving priority to this area (like it is now for coaches etc) then it shouldn’t take long. Nightclub is just an example….Dont forget Atlantis in Bolton was nowhere near to the main nightlife. Bollywood Cinema is simply an idea as their isn’t one & their would be a big demand for it….It could also help attract people to the Ewood area…
ABBEY Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 ….Dont forget Atlantis in Bolton was nowhere near to the main nightlife. i worked the door there a few times back in the day ....oh it went bust did it not mainly because of its location?
adopted scouser Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Bollywood Cinema is simply an idea as their isn’t one & their would be a big demand for it….It could also help attract people to the Ewood area… You already have Bollywood films two miles up the road
Hughesy Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Bollywood specific cinema though....surely it would attract, especially if their was other things around, such as restaurants? You like the parking idea Abbey - suprised you didnt have another arguement on that one
Majiball Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 exactly AS all in walkling distance for them ! Walking Distance??? Half the people on here have an issue walking from the station to the ground.
Majiball Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 A 4/5 star hotel will only work if you have rich businesses in the area to support it. Hotels make good money but only if they fit/suit the surrounding environment. A decent 3 star would more than suffice for Blackburn as stars merely dictate facilities not the level of service you receive. If it was to be done you have the side lines of Weddings at Ewood which will always bring in serious money. Whatever improvements are built at Ewood the demand for them to be used must be well thought out and a 5 star hotel would flop.

Tris had his reception at Ewood. I can't help but think we've missed the boat with the hotel thing. When it was first muted years ago it was a possibility. But since then two other hotels - the one at the services and the Fernhurst have both opened, both of which provide good serivce. The unique selling point of one at Ewood would be that it is at Rovers. How many people, other than a handful of people on a matchday, would care about this? and be willing to sacrifice more money to stop at Ewood rather than at the services simply because it is at Rovers?
unluckymorton Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 exactly AS all in walkling distance for them ! For who?

If it was all done in house we'd make more money than using northcote offsite. Profit margins on Weddings are huge, huge and they are easy to run and organise. How many can they do in one day at present? By adding a Hotel in you also cater for those who don't want to be married at Ewood and there's far more of them. The club lose out at present as rooms generally go hand in hand with them. A hotel would also have its own staff, as outside staff are very expensive in the industry. The hotel doesn't have to be more expensive than the others, the margins are massive on a hotel. you under cut them as your a billionaire anyway, take all there business, watch them go down the pan and then slowly build it back up again. A lot of major hotel chains operate in this manner. It doesn't have to be huge 40-50 rooms and you could easily turn over a healthy profit eventually. If other facilities were built there as well and a homely feel created where do you reckon the business man would rather stay? A pub with rooms or a hotel with a gym, pool, etc.
philipl Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Well it would do away with excuses of not going to the Rovers because you are going to a wedding. We lost 0-2 to Southampton and Roy Hodgson got fired on my wedding day!

How many people, other than a handful of people on a matchday, would care about this? and be willing to sacrifice more money to stop at Ewood rather than at the services simply because it is at Rovers? Example for you... We used to live on Cravens, near Ewood - when London teams come up they park on the side of the road, we warned them 'you might get a fine', they simply responded 'Only £30 or £60 aint it?'....thats the mentality of Londoners - flash with the cash...They would more than likely stay at Ewood then search for little travel-lodges etc in the middle of knowhere. Especially if the hotel had other facilities such as bar, restuarant, gym, pool etc... Infact you might get people driving up on the friday & staying 2 nights. As Maji says - big conference facilities at a nice Hotel also attract weddings, and guests at weddings require hotel rooms. Boltons hotel does really well.

I missed that game too as my wife was expecting our first child and was in hospital in labour. As soon as i realised i was going to miss the game i knew it was going to be a girl.... She was born the morning after.
ABBEY Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 For who? IF THEY CANT WALK FROM AUDLEY TO VUE THEN ITS A POOR DO Walking Distance??? Half the people on here have an issue walking from the station to the ground. ? HOW FAR IS VUE FROM AUDLEY? the vue ALWAYS has bollywood on???
Majiball Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 ? HOW FAR IS VUE FROM AUDLEY? the vue ALWAYS has bollywood on??? I HAVEN'T GOT A BLOODY CLUE I LIVE IN LIVERPOOL, I WAS TAKING THE ###### OUT OF THE LAZY SODS.
Hughesy Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 ABBEY....the bollywood cinema was just a suggestion...lets not get too hung up on it eh!
Backroom Tom Posted August 18, 2010 Backroom Posted August 18, 2010 Judging from the last few times I've been in town by far the busiest places are the pound stores an bargain shops. Just build the worlds biggest pound shop at ewood and were laughing. And maybe one of those carverys that are £3.50 they're always busy
Hughesy Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 TCO - you cracked it....Lets build the worlds biggest Primark!!
67splitscreen Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 TCO - you cracked it....Lets build the worlds biggest Primark!! Syedmark! be careful with the pronunciation.
rigger Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Perhaps the hotel could have a discount scheme for season ticket holders, thus making it more attractive for fans who live away from the local area to buy season tickets.
Parasyte Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 If we had the cash for a new-build hotel, wonder how much just buying the Fernhurst would cost instead. Spitting distance to the ground, get plenty of paying away fans staying in it every other week... As for the Riverside; how about decent conference centre/gym combo - wouldnt need any more. In my expereince, the facilities not the gimmick location makes the difference in regards to conf locations. Just bung some cubby hole rooms in (people at these conferences care about the mini-bar and TV porn, not the view) and bobs your aunties live in lover. Wonder if the Garner/Burnley plane and banner could be mounted on top
bluebruce Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 A lot of people seem to be forgetting that Mr Syed won't invest in any alcohol-related activities. A shame really, especially if that applies 100%, as most of the best ways to make money in and around the ground would involve alcohol.
Hughesy Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Perhaps the hotel could have a discount scheme for season ticket holders, thus making it more attractive for fans who live away from the local area to buy season tickets. Thats what my thinking was too. Reduced hotel prices for ST holders Reduced Gym & Leisure membership for ST holders....possibly a way to entice more ST holders. Reduced prices for conference suites for sponsors & box holders. Bluebruce - Whilst Syed wont invest in Alcohol - it doesnt mean he wont build & lease out the building that its based in...and take a cut of profits from.

That would really rake in the money.
