10moorgate Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Don't know if it's gone unnoticed but this week marked the 30 year anniversary of Rovers last getting beaten by Burnley. Could do with marking the occasion some how...????

b12_simon Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 One must be coming up soon I'd say. Happy days!
Neil Weaver Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 One must be coming up soon I'd say. As some members might remember, a group tried to organise one a few years ago. The plane company had to get permission from Plod and they wouldn't give it. Good old boys in blue, always full of the joys of spring. So if anyone has any bright ideas, let's hear em.
McClarky Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Not quite. Did we not lose a Manx Cup tie to them at the Turd in about 1987, maybe 1-2. I am guessing the year but seem to remember it being just after the Full Members Cup win as 1 of my mates was saying on the way out of the ground that he would rather have lost at Wembley than in this pre-season game. With hindsight I don't think he meant it realy?

67splitscreen Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Cheap and mass coverage. Four sides of the ground. At the next live match, big cards held up by the fans, spelling out. 30 YEARS AND COUNTING I know from previous topics we are not the best song writers on here, but a new song would be good, just for the occasion, bit like getting a birthday card.
bob fleming Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 There's loads of verses to this somewhere. What about a commemorative verse? There’s an ale house in burnley I used to frequent, I met Owen Coyle, his money was spent He asked me to play, I answered him nay ‘cause I hate burnley @#/?s ‘til my dying day! And it’s no, nay, never, no nay never no more Will we play burnley @#/?s? No, never, no more! Now burnley haven’t beaten us for 30 odd year So charge your glasses and drink up your beer They dream of Ewood but don’t know when But they’ll still be sh*t and we’ll beat them again! And it’s no, nay, never, no nay never no more Will we play burnley @#/?s? No, never, no more!

Can we change to Now burnley haven’t beat us for 30 odd year So charge up your glasses and drink down your beer Bit easier on the breathing control. after sampling a few pre match.

Exiled in Toronto Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Burnleh vs Sheff Utd is on live here this afternoon - why, I can't imagine as viewing figures will be restricted to me and a handful of expat chimps at Toronto Zoo - but I shall be tuning in with a beer hopefully to see the next stage in the collapse of their play-off dreams after Preston beating Cardiff 6-0.
10moorgate Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 If (or when) when we stay up before the west brom game, it would be remiss for us to ignore the 30 year thing...bit of a long shot but is anyone in a position to print off 10,000 cards saying '30' or something like that? this is about rovers' true traditional rivalry ie with burnley. Burnley would be shouting from the rooftops about it! CAN ANYONE HELP?
AndyNeil Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Its a great idea - however, could you imagine those at the top of the club agreeing to this - NO NAY NEVER!!!!!
10moorgate Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 you're right they wouldn't...........if they knew about it! just wish i had the facilities to do it. would quite happily shell out to get the achievement noticed.
Gav Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Great idea but it won't be supported by the club. Pity we don't have a "Garner Esq" plan for the play offs me thinks, only takes a few to create another piece of Rovers burnley folk lore. Ummmmm
Ricky Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 You can get a message banner on a plane for under a grand Gav. The problem is getting the permission off the police.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Yup. No way would the police let a plane fly over a big sporting event without good reason.

Ummmmm JW ask for the support of the fans in recent weeks, he owes us one, it cannot be allowed just to slip by. As above, they certainly would remind us.
JAL Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Bringing up 30 years as the pride of east lancashire statement comes across as preparing to relinquish that title.
philipl Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Yup. No way would the police let a plane fly over a big sporting event without good reason. In that case a fly past over t'Turf must be on.
