OK Jal so care to comment how mant times even the Maestro gave the ball away during that 2nd half period?

Tugay's last game for the club thats why the focus is on Grella, when I first saw him he impressed me, looked your typical aggressive midfielder who gets stuck in and has the potential to be a real crowd pleaser, saddly since those early days, he doesnt get stuck in and disrupt play he comes across like hes knows hes going to get hurt against bigger boys so hes shadow defending.

In the end Drog he looks slow which will incapacitise himself and the team, we need drivers in that centre of midfield and I ask the question is Grella a driver ?

Keep hearing a good preseason for him will do him good, but they forget like Dunny he has a career history of injuries so the probabilities of being fit for long periods at Rovers are very, very slim indeed.

Come on Bing if thats good well we are in trouble straight from the off next season with that kind of performance.

Short one touch passes were easy, peasy, I'd expect any pro to be able to do that, as for the longer passes how many were waisted and went nowhere near one of our players .

Second half West Brom were coming through our midfield for fun and Grellas little legs were chasing but not intercepting, he offered the protection of a chocolate fireguard for the defence and lets not forget this is a championship team we were playing.

If Grella is the standard for next season then have we really improved on this season ? As many poster on here would point out definitely not!

You can apply the logic in the second sentence to anything then. If a centre half wins his headers, clears the ball when needed and we keep a clean sheet is he not worthy of praise then or is just the minimum you'd expect?

Of course he overhit some of his attempted longer passes. Many of Xabi Alonso or Michael Carrick's passes run out of play when the winger doesn't catch them. It doesn't help when you are trying to hit passes into areas where you have two snail-paced players running on to them.

You need watercarriers in your side. Everton have finished fifth with Phil Neville playing the majority of the season in midfield. Fulham have had Dickson Etuhu in midfield. I'd argue that Grella has more ability on the ball than either of those two and with someone alongside him next season who can support the forwards and get around the pitch, Grella will be a regular 7/8 out of 10 man for us next year.

Fully agree Bing that we need a watercarrier and Grella looks the most likely to fill that role, though, if I had the opportunity of P.Neville over V.Grella, Neville would win it for me for reliability, experience and fitness.

Of course a stronger midfield partner with Grella could change everything but that doesnt look likely at this minute but its a general view of what does Grella bring to the team to think yes, hes the man for Rovers. He started off on a wave of fresh enthusiasm which was great now hes levelled off what are we really left with ?

Enjoyed the day, the match was dire but the Tugay testimonials were fantastic as was the great mans treatment of Neil Yardley at the end!

He will be sorely missed. Must admit I like many others looked at some of the things he did yesterday and wondered whether it was really time for him to go. A coaching contract with player registration would have made good sense in my opinion. Ah well, whats done is done.

Also would like to say thanks to the lads outside the Ewood Arms at the end who chanted "Roque! Roque! Roque!" at me as I drove past after the match. I took it as a compliment, until the inevitable "hahahahaha..........tosser!" that followed it

I'm off to get a haircut....

Yardley approached him with the microphone, Toogs pushed him in the chest and carried on walking. Yardley then caught up with him, asked him a question and Toogs responded "No Comment"* and walked off.

*I'm pretty sure it was no comment he said, but it was hard to tell, anyone know any differently?

Enjoyable day due to the Tugay factor, you would have had to have had a heart of stone not to be moved by the ovation he got when he was substituted. Ditto to do the usual disappearing act 10 mins from time, couldn't believe there were some people doing that yesterday.

On the pitch it was a very disappointing game indeed to round off a disappointing season and shows I think that Sam still has his work cut out next season.

Robinson - have already commented on the other thread that that was one of the best saves I've ever seen.

Grella - thought he was very good first half, poor second. After such a stop start season perhaps his stamina is not yet quite up to scratch?

MGP - sorry, I have lost patience with him completely. Has been so poor for so long. Can we afford to replace him though?

Diouf - lack of pace starting to look a real worry.

Benni - thought he just about pipped MGP for the "Were you on the pitch?" award. Next season he needs to get himself properly fit and display a completely different attitude or we'd probably be better off selling.

Samba - currently the jewel in the crown no matter where he plays. He must stay at all costs.

Roberts ludicrous red card - hope we appeal it or he will be unavailable for the first 3 games of next season?

Overall, add in Cup dismissals by Coventry and United's kids and a season to forget really. Here's hoping for better next time round.

P.S. Fantastic turnout yesterday, Ewood Park chock full of 27k Rovers fans is a magnificent sight and the Darwen End initiative HAS to be made to work next season.

In reply to RB's post:

Grella - Still think he's a waste of money. He is either injured, or plays badly. He had a few alright games before he got that injury. But since, i think he has been very poor

MGP - I agreed. When you consider the paralels between him and Chris Brunt yesterday it was amazing. We should sign up Brunt now...

Diouf - Should be a bench option for RM/LM nothing more...

Benni - Still think it may be time to cash in on him as much as we can and sign up Darren Bent.

Lets give grella 10 real games next year and then see, he's had a stop start season. I won't lie he needs to step up a gear but lets put it down to the turmoil he's been through since he came. He's had a different partner every week and even then they are hardly the most mobile.

I've harped on about this role since I first posted on here and I'm afraid I'm not convinced by vince, hopefully he can hit the ground running next year and shove my words back down my throat.

Are highlights available anywhere online? Not up yet on Roversworld and I'd love to see the Robbo save.

Yes on virgin media- thanks majiball.

The Robbo save is breathtaking.

As for Roberts' sending off, the camera caught absolutely nothing either.

You've obviously studied at the Paul Ince school of management ben.

I think you'll find that at the time they were a Premiership team leaving the league on a bizarre high. Our team is partly make-shift because of injuries and, I would imagine, some players who the manager would prefer not to be there (and has his mind set on better replacements). We played badly. We came out with a point. And a clean sheet. Our goalie is back in the England squad and is looking more and more confident.

Bring on next season and some scintillating signing :rover:

Dont disagree with that El Tombro, scintillating signings are definitley the order for the pre season but Van der Meyde, somebody is having a laugh, hopefully it wont be big Sam and the board bringing the washed up Dutchman to our club.

Yes on virgin media- thanks majiball.

Seems to be UK only, or at least I can't watch it. Any video I try to watch gives me a message of "This category contains no video clips" or "There are no videos currently available".
