Pinch Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Givet had another superb game today... On a side note, we really do need to look at Chris Brunt. He is quality... I remember you saying that before, and I agree.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Great turnout and great voice for TUGAY DAY. Got a bit emotional when he lead the lads out. Tugay, you legend. There'll never be another quite like you. All the best.
martmitch Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Poor performance esp second half felt lucky we got a draw. Taking samba off killed most of the theat but he didn't have good game himself, roberts didnt really get the ball before ref ruined the game for us.Mgp absolute shocker didn't give a toss.thought fortune and brunt were gd for them. Tugay hArdly put a foot wrong all afternoon very emotional farewell
Plastic Head Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Good first 20 minutes but dire after that. Don't know why Samba went off, we were never gonna score then. Tugay deserved MOTM even though it was his last game. Robinson pulled of a worldie though. It seemed he could have played for another season. He has looked fitter than any time in the last 2 or 3 seasons to me. Looking at the atrocious Grella today he will certainly take some replacing.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Poor game and slightly disappointed to be honest but who gives a flying one...... Very emotional when Tugay's farewell message was played on the big screen...''I WILL ALWAYS BE IN THE STANDS'' **gulp** Never in a million years a sending off for Roberts. 28,389 the highest crowd of the season....a taste of what IS possible at EVERY home game next season. THANK YOU TUGAY, ANDRE OIJER AND BLACKBURN ROVERS!
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Some points that have and haven't been covered: Samba hit the post. Robinson made a world class save. I thought it was in. Tugay is God. Roberts' sending off was the most baffling moment of the season. Tugay is God. No way were there over 2,000 empty seats. No way. Tugay is God.
Stuart Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 28,389 the highest crowd of the season....a taste of what IS possible at EVERY home game next season. As long as the football isn't that dire. Roberts' sending off was the most baffling moment of the season. Seconded. I look forward (if I can say that after today's game) to MOTD so see what happened. I find it very hard to believe if there was any contact with his arm (as the ref appeared to be signalling) that it would have been deliberate. Let's hope for it being rescinded otherwise, he could miss the first 3 games of next season.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 A nice day in the sunshine and Rovers fans did themselves proud in honouring a true hero. Other than that an awful performance by an awful team I'm afraid. Much work to be done.
bobsterbrfc Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Just got back in from Tugay Day and like everyone else... Thank you for the memories Tugay, I've held a season ticket for the entire length of your Rovers career, from being 14-22, I don't see how you can be dislodged from being my favourite Rover of all time. My personal favourite memory: Probably the substitution today, the Turkish flags looked fantastic! Not including today: His celebration against Spurs two years ago. (Ignoring his sending off later that game!) The pleasure was all ours Tugay.
RoverRich Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Goodbye and thank you to Tugay. An absolute legend and the end of an era. Just spotted this on BBC website at the bottom of our match report: BBC Sport Player Rater man of the match: Blackburn's Tugay with 10 (on 90 minutes). First time I have ever seen that and very fitting. Shows what a hero he is!
TimmyJimmy Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Happy happy day even if I did cock up on the prediction front, thought we would have buried WBA. Tugs got the send off he deserved and Andre was well clapped by the fans even though it was primarily the legends day. Nothing could spoil it for me but it was a crappy performance truth be told yet again we let things slide on the last day, could have done with that 1.5 million. All made up for by the tremendous news that the best club in Christendom has been relegated. It was all somebody elses fault of course and they'll bounce back next year (not). Who are the pundits going to laud next season, even they must be sick of saying manure, chelsea, liverpool and arse every second word. Come on Sheff U and make my weekend complete. Missing you already Tugs.
brfcshabba Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I'd like to know why the ref got to manage the same two teams home and away. Mike Jones also sent off McCarthy at The Hawthorns for a handball again a dubious decision.
broadsword Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 John Williams: “You would like to think that one day he might come back to the club in some capacity. Great servants like Tugay are people you always want associated with you.”
philipl Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Lovely, lovely day. Fantastic turn out to say goodbye to Tugay and Andre Ooijer and thank Sam and the lads for turning the Ince legacy around. Frustrating we didn't win as that's£1.54m down the toilet. Utterly bemused by the sending off- was sat where I could see the press' monitors and saw zip in the replay that warranted any sort of foul, let alone a red card. But we are Rovers and refs can get there card quota achieved when they ref us. Hope we appeal otherwise Jason sits out the first three next season. Tugay got in a nice retinue of tricks during the game. The only other comment of note is that if Grella is anywhere near the starting XI come August, something will have gone horribly wrong with Sam's summer recruitment.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I have to agree Philip,Grella is simply not Premierleague standard.
Backroom DE. Posted May 24, 2009 Backroom Posted May 24, 2009 Big thanks to Tugay and Ooijer, shame the performance and result didn't match the emotion of the day. Roll on the summer, I hope for many changes.
Blue blood Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Great day, not the best game in the world, but hey, can live with that. Thought rovers had the better chances in the first half and were unlucky not to be ahead. We switched off completely in the second half and were lucky to get the draw. Can see why WBA went down with finishing like that. Ref had a shocker. No idea why Roberts was sent off, especially as prior to that it seemed like the ref was intent on not giving any cards out. WBA for all their attractive football, are certainly not averse to constant fouling based on that display. Good riddance I say. Givet looked class again, Diouf looked painfully slow, Grella just looked painful, Samba was unlucky not to score and Robbo was again excellent. Last word should go to the legend that is Tugay. Some lovely touches from him, and his substitution was epic even by his standards. He fully deserves the applause, flags and the rest, it was a great send off which did the fans proud and did justice to the best passer of the ball I've ever seen in the blue and white halves.
Backroom Tom Posted May 24, 2009 Backroom Posted May 24, 2009 Let me get one thing out the of the way, yes the game was poor and a win would have been nice, HOWEVER: Today was one of my best ever days at Ewood, a special day really. I was in the Pennants Lounge and the service and food was top notch throughout (I got to try Nigel Haworths Great british menu pudding), but some things just made the day brilliant - I loved how the players stopped in the tunnel and let Tugay walk out by himself - Tugays leaving the pitch was emotional and heartfelt - One thing that really brought a smile to my face was when the blackburn end sang stand up if you love Tugay, myself and a lot of others around me stood up, including a certain John Williams, that man is a class act top to bottom - Sam came into the lounge with Warnock after the match and we managed to get a pic with him and he had a laugh about the Toon being doomed which everyine enjoyed. - The real highlight was bumping into The Maestro on the way out and managing to shake his hand and thank him for the last 8 years and he also took a picture with us - Also we were talking to Samba in his car and it nearly matches Dioufs, sadly he didnt want to swap with me. - Oh and the geordies went down, brilliant
T4E Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 The only other comment of note is that if Grella is anywhere near the starting XI come August, something will have gone horribly wrong with Sam's summer recruitment. Have to agree Phil, he was totally anonymous.
brfcshabba Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Did we finish bottom of disciplinary league again?
