A couple of disabled areas (similar to Wigan/Reading) could be put in the present Riverside. The seats that are removed could then be re-sited at each end of the stand, as unlike the BBE, DE and JW there is a staircase at the very end which isn't necessary for such small blocks of seating. That way there are better facilities for the disabled without reducing capacity.

Yes Ben, I agee, that is the best area and the most accessable!!

Not a bad idea. I would hope, if we ever upgrade the Riverside stand, this would be a prime consideration.

In 2009 and beyond it has to be... The Riverside will surely have to be rebuilt or at least upgraded in the next few years. If rebuilt there would also be the opportunity for more executive boxes above the seating, which should all-in-all create a stand that is the same height as the other 3, with top-class facilities (incl. disabled) and same capacity. Off topic I know, and probably just a dream!

I don't think we'd create another JW-sized stand. For one, we wouldn't fill it and two, isn't there a problem with the River being back there.

If we do improve the Riverside stand, we'd need to, at least:

1) Do as you suggest with disabled areas (a la Wigan)

2) Arrange for a new roof

3) Remove the pillars and have some kind of free standing structure

4) Create some kind of area for the TV cameras to be positioned there - making our ground look better on TV and avoiding the embarrassing view of people walking out behind the action.

As you say, off topic but I'm not sure where else to discuss. I do think that we need to start selling more tickets before we'll invest in a new stand - unless there is a health and safety risk...

I requested a transfer, for a seat higher up in the Blackburn End, but still haven't heard anything yet from the club. My Onerover Account shows I have purchased 2 season tickets, when I have only applied for the 1, but it does show on there that my seat has been moved.

Will I not be contacted via post?

like O2G said contact the TO. iv not heard anything about mine, so i rang them, chances are it will be done via post, but if you want peace of mind just give them a call

When it was being considered in the late 90s they said it wouldnt be worth it as the cost would be astranomical

due to the fact the river would have to be bridged etc.!

The Walkers steel is hear to stay i think!

Sorry, what I was meaning to say was that keep the same capacity, but make it the same height by putting exec boxes etc. Also another idea would be to make it closer to the pitch.

I like your idea's too - i'm sure we'll see something happen one day!

I wouldn't want to spend any more money than necessary on the Riverside as it is pretty near falling apart as it is. My wish would be for easy access to somewhere warm at half time or even during the match on a cold day with the ability to watch the match on screen; and ideally kitted out to use as a drop in centre at other times.

Having somewhere warm and dry to sit in the winter would be high on everyone's wish list. Being out in the cold is part of the experience of live football. I imagine your main issue is that disabled fans don't have the ability to at least get a seat somewhere dry.

If you are looking up enviously at the corporate types snug behind the glass then, ignoring the commercial side, the problem would be wheelchair access up to that level - even for a short stay at half time and by the time all of the disabled fans were up there it'd be time to set off back.

A complete upgrade of the Riverside sounds like the ideal, albeit expensive, option.

Failing that a short term option would be covered, elongated bus shelter style area at pitch level so that you can at least stay dry. The ideal place would be in front of the Riverside which might be low enough to avoid obstructing the view from the front few rows. But as you say, it's probably not a good idea to do any futher works in or around the existing RS stand.

Hmm. Not an easy one.

The only thing you can do with the riverside is knock it down and start again - its going to cost too much to do any major improvements in that stand. We need to get a hotel chain to sponsor it and build it for us - that way it wont cost us much.

Incorporating a hotel has been suggested a few times. There are precious few hotels in the area so it looks like a bit of a niche on the face of it.

I wonder why this isn't a goer? The damn river again? Maybe we just aren't an attractive enough option for a hotel chain - see Crown as shirt sponsor.

Your last comment very true, Jisty.

Unfortunately wheelchair bound and those who cannot move around much are often unable to move themselves to generate warmth, some of them can hardly move at all, others have circulation problems, whereas at least we can stamp our feet and move around a bit. The one good thing about pitchside seating is that generally nobody can stand in front of you, personally I don't mind it too much but I do feel for our disabled colleagues.

Travelling to the likes of Anfield and Portsmouth, even Spurs are a bit dodgy, having to sit with and directly in front of the opposition fans is not good, or Stoke where you can't see a thing for folks standing up in front of you, or The Emirates and Man City where a constant stream of police and stewards interrupt your view if you are a PA (and you get told "well you are there to look after your disabled colleague not watch the match!") but it's all part of the football experience and we'll still be there next year!!!

Update on ST Sales: - Iv just copied the email that I recieved.

Going back to our 14k total of last season we are now just over 17k giving us a rise of roughly 3k. This is not bad, but still it's not up to the targets set - which were between 18 & 19k.

There will be a text focusing on the Darwen End ST in the next day or two. Unlike normal, this will go to EVERYONE (not including some obvious and necessary removals). As people rightly say, we don't tend to send out packs etc to those who have already bought. However, as I do believe fans are great advocates, we will get the text out to all those who have bought as part of the D/base in the hope they will continue to spread the word.

There will be e-mails also to everyone and follow up letter to those who are yet to renew. I also have some guys who will start another round of calling as many of those who are still to renew as possible (we have already done quite a few). We may also look at some radio work as a second phase to try to mop up anyone else in the next few weeks.

It's still a great response Hughesy, given the football on show last season. If we take into account the sales to date, alongside the sales that we would have undoubtedly lost without the ST initiative, then the club should be well pleased with their promotion.

Three/four weeks to go before kick off, hopefully we will have the biggest ST total that I can remember. The season after we won the Prem, I think I'm right in saying we sold c17000 ST's.

There are still around 1000 who havent renewed from last season too!

There always are about that number Hughesy, mostly for reasons unrelated to cost. I wouldn't hold out much hope of many of those renewing. i would have thought the targets now are those who bought the Cricial 3 promotion but who haven't converted that to a season ticket yet.

3 more tickets for the Darwen End bought. 2 of us for the first time in 5 years and one new season ticket holder who's more of a Liverpool fan but wants to see football - and is maybe in danger of being converted ;)

Asked about what would happen regards getting the ticket for the Man City game and the poor bloke in the TO didn't have a clue what I was on about and had to ask someone else.

Yeah looks that way. Like I said they are trying to contact all those who havent renewed by phone.

They are also targetting all those from the Darwen End deal who are on the database.

Looks like they are also targeting people who have renewed.

I just received a Txt about the DE ticket offer even though I've renewed my three seats.
