[Archived] Preston Old Road Bus Lane?

Has anybody seen the 'new' bus lane on Preston Old Road (along the front of Witton Park) ??

Here`s how i see it.....

1....It must`ve cost a good few thousand pounds to put in, with all the re-marking of lines & altering of pedestrian crossings etc....

2....It`s only about 300yds long & doesn`t incorporate any major junctions.

3....There`s only about 4 buses an hour go along that road (chorley, Preston & Fenny buses??)

4....It could only be used to it`s potential during rush hour, which there is only two 'peak' traffic periods per day......& the evening 'peak' period has the majority of traffic going the opposite way (out of town) thus leaving the new bus lane redundant for 23hrs a day, every day of the week.

5....They`ve needlessly narrowed a main into/out of town artery.

So in my calculations, they`ve spent a stupid amount of money on getting 4 buses a day 300yds further down the road, a few seconds quicker.

Is it really really worth all that expenditure of taxpayers money.....or is it just a case of "we`ve got all this money, let`s spend it before they take it back off us!"

A total waste of money.

At least it makes the council look busy and as if they are doing something. What happened about the proposed bus lanes around Ewood - has that gone in the bin?

Our lot are fond of cycle paths. They keep painting them on the pavements, giving pedestrians about six inches on which to walk (not easy if you've a couple of kids, the dog and a pram) and then wonder why there are more cars on the road (and still very few cyclists using the cycle paths).

So now we have bus lane. So how come on Cars are parked in it, and also on the other side of the road in the cycle lane.
