Tyrone Shoelaces Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Dean Ashton if he can get fit...West Ham want to get rid I believe Too big an "If" for me. We've been stung with Santa, we dont want another version. Good player though, would have been ideal but for the injuries.

den Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 So, does anyone know who's on Big Sam's summer shopping list? Reading this is painful.
Kelbo Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I think Sam will look to French players in the main as they are normally technically good players, many with pace, he knows the leagues over there and has good contacts too. There may be the odd one or two from elsewhere but he does seem to be around France quite a bit!! However, he may surprise us but I feel he will do business early and get the players in before pre season unlike last year where we were last minute on everything!!
thenodrog Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Just my opinion but most signings that SA will be looking at will be players who can adapt to other positions e.g. Ooijer / Emerton / Givet / Warnock types. He is intent on cutting down squad numbers and replacing quantity with quality so I don't think 2 specialist players for each position is an option that we will see taken up.... obviously apart from between the sticks and maybe CF. owever, he may surprise us but I feel he will do business early and get the players in before pre season unlike last year where we were last minute on everything!! That is his preferred option imo. RSC may screw it up though.
Majiball Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 So, does anyone know who's on Big Sam's summer shopping list? Reading this is painful. Andy Van der Meyde I doubt anyones got a clue they never dropped any hints. Gudjohnsen hopefully.
RovertheHill Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Considering the amount of time Sports Interactive put into getting the player data it is a valuable resource. Why bother sending your scouts out and about randomly, when you can target certain teams and younger players who are "rated" on the database. If you see them and they are rubbish then you have lost nothing. Where do they get the data from?
novella Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Where do they get the data from? They hire scouts for each league as far as i know. Think its in the FM credits.
Lathund Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 They appoint people, usually one for each club, to provide them with the data, and then have head researchers with a wider scope, who manage things and make sure there's some balance and realism in it. i.e so that whoever does Rovers wouldn't make Tugay the best player in the world, something we'd all be tempted to do So basically it's the fans who do this, which is why there's accurate data from a Conference club's reserve team even, because the person doing that data has been to see them play a bunch of times. Was pretty awesome when one of my classmates in 9th grade (15 years old) was in the game one year - and he had only played half a dozen games in the Swedish 4th tier.
Eddie Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I was in it one year as a youth player and can tell you that the results were pretty realistic whenever I bought myself for a premiership side...
The Prof. Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 - A quality attacking central midfield.------Aimar,Emana,Hazzard(belgian kid), - A main target man striker (if Santa Cruz leaves).-------Dzeko,Crouch,Janko.Samaras?? - A right-back---------Seitardis,Zuiverloon,Hoyte,Finnan. - Another central midfielder-------Barton,Davis,Ferguson,M'Bia,Emerson. - A winger with pace--------AVM, Pennant, Duff(maybe not so much pace any more) - A pacey striker (if Derbyshire leaves)--------Cisse,Sturridge,Alves, Bojinov - And another central midfelder-------no need for another. These are all good - Highlighted the best for me. Think Samba is a better target man that those above though. He out crouched Crouch, has control and jumps (must hit 15ft) How much would they cost though? Dean Ashton if he can get fit...West Ham want to get rid I believe No - think we'll only look at fit players. If you can get a squad together thats fit you're on 23 players not 40 for a season. No more risks I 'm afraid now the squad is being pruned..
LeChuck Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Think Samba is a better target man that those above though. Samba better than Dzeko? He hasn't scored in any of matches up there. He's done well for a centre back out of position, but we'd all be very annoyed if we'd bought him as our main £5 million striker or something. He simply has to return to defence next season if we are to improve.
RoversSG Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Just saw this on football365 http://www.football365.com/news/transfers/...5345535,00.html "Meanwhile, just so that you know, The Daily Mail says that 'Wolves have abandoned an ambitious bid to sign Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone after being quoted an asking price of £8million'." That's way out of our league then.
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Samba better than Dzeko? Marc Janko 57 goals in 73 games for Red Bull Salzburg...
LeChuck Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Marc Janko 57 goals in 73 games for Red Bull Salzburg... Didn't realise he was that prolific. They're all better than Samba up front, even Samaras, but the Dzeko one just struck me as most odd given that he's one of the best strikers in Europe at the moment, if not the best.
Majiball Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Marc Janko 57 goals in 73 games for Red Bull Salzburg... Alfonso Alves 45 in 39 for heerenven, 10 in 42 for Middlesbourgh, Its one huge step up to the premiership.
The Prof. Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Samba better than Dzeko? He hasn't scored in any of matches up there. He's done well for a centre back out of position, but we'd all be very annoyed if we'd bought him as our main £5 million striker or something. He simply has to return to defence next season if we are to improve. No but he's a good target man who does work openings for others. Who would he replace in defence though? Givet? Nelson? - he's been outstanding the second half of the season and probably gets the nod before Givet. Is Zurab staying anyone?
Eddie Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I agree with Lechuck and it's what I've been saying for a while. Samba did well as a stop-gap, but if we had signed him to be a striker we'd be wanting to see him out of the door as fast as possible.
The Rover of Finland Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Didn't realise he was that prolific. They're all better than Samba up front, even Samaras, but the Dzeko one just struck me as most odd given that he's one of the best strikers in Europe at the moment, if not the best. Dzeko it´s not best striker in Europe but partnership between him and Grafite was outstanding. They scored 55 goals together in Bundesliga. Dzeko is quite similar than RSC. Grafite is probably fastest striker in the world. But they aren´t coming to Rovers so that´s it.
mhead Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Saw Djeko and Graniti for Wolfsburg 2 weeks ago in front of 49,000. They won 0-5 away...it was a stroll in the park with not one tackle all afternoon. Conclusion: not easy to see how he would cope in English football and WHY should he come? German football and Champions League is actually easier than the Premiership!
Amo Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Tuncay, Bent and Gunnarsson are all good shouts. Doesn't the Coventry guy possess a killer throw too? Midfield definitely needs some serious reinvestment. Diouf - Filled the RM slot, but has lost a yard of pace. MGP - No longer the player of two years ago. Dunn - Only real playmaker. Injury prone and facing 30. Reid - Never recovered form after injuries. Another crock. Grella - Defensive midfielder, question marks over fitness and overall game. Emerton - Perhaps an option in CM, but preferred at right-back. Andrews - Squad player, at best. Doran - One for the future. Still raw and untested. Treacy - Umm... You could argue we need in reinforcements in every one of those positions.
imy9 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 What we need are three versatile midfield players: 1. An attacking midfield player to replace Tugay. 2. A winger of genuine pace. 3. A midfield player who can play out wide. The most important one is the Tugay replacment and the pacy winger, this will ensure that route 1 football is only an option
CAPT KAYOS Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Nicko is this still remaining silent or has something passed I have a missed nicko MYSTERY MAN - Stayed quiet and must remain that way for now. Another name came up at the weekend of who this could be - if and a big surprise if it is but things add up to a sensible possibility.
jny Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 and Janko is in a far worse league to the one Alves was in. Plus he doesn't even have such an impressive scoring record to Alves. about nickos mystery man - I think a fair few of this boards readers have seen my guesses so I am going to remove them to stop (if im right) people ruining our chances of getting these players. Mouthful I know
