Fylde Coast Fan Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 The "too expensive for us" level appears to be somewhere around the subs bench of mid table Premier League sides like Spurs or Fulham.
Driftpeasant Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Sam mentioned about the facts for set-pieces, if your the best at defending them, and the best at attacking through them, then you would finish 10th or something there abouts from that alone. Something like that anyway!! Think he is trying the set-piece ability to our game. 6ft 4 Right back, 6ft 7 Centre back, maybe a big target man. We just need to sort out the actual set-piece takers next. Hopefully Gamst can regain his ability to take the inswinging corners. I will say that when I was at Ewood, and Gamst knelt down next to me to take the picture for the programme book before the Stoke game, he said "ooghh, my knees" and winced when kneeling. I think his knees are kinda shot, honestly. I think that's the reason he's not what he was.
AJW Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 any chance of bringing ben arfa to Ewood, propably to expensive for us wasn't he olive's husband from on the buses?
rundereim Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 just hope the player nicko is quiet abaut, is as good as he say....time will tell..
Kelbo Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 just hope the player nicko is quiet abaut, is as good as he say....time will tell.. Graham Alexander??
1864roverite Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I know one thing Rovers are going to be coming put to tunes played by the famous band "they might be giants"
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Nicko. Have you got any idea of how much we have got to spend during this transfer window (not including the Roque sale)? Any idea how much Burnley will have to spend during the transfer window?
Hi Mack Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Nicko. Have you got any idea of how much we have got to spend during this transfer window (not including the Roque sale)? Any idea how much Burnley will have to spend during the transfer window? I reckon we'll have around 5-7 million exc. the RSC sale. We have to keep the sky money for wages, policeing etc. The board have done all they can do by dropping ticket prices and hopefully it'll work.
roverseas Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I don't think we've got a set transfer "budget" though. Money can be found when needed but it will have to be the right deal and not too much of a gamble money wise. The spending will just have to be within reason.
RevidgeBlue Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Very good, you replaced it with the sarcasm in yours. Ok, £5m is on the high side. Initially I thought Scholes was a couple of years younger, so £3m would be nearer the mark. Scholes and Giggs are:- (1) Infinitely better than what we've got now. When I say infinitely, I mean light years. (2) Affordable fee wise. If their wage demands were to prove to be too high, look elsewhere. (3) Proven. They've got the t-shirts as well as the medals. (4) Local. (5) Fit for their years. Should get 2 years service for each. (6) They fit the Allardyce 'towards the end of their career' mould. The only downside I can see is a lack of resale value and could/would Rovers afford to lay out £9m over two years for them both inclusive of wages. Grella and Morten (The Useless) against Scholes and Giggs? We've stumped up £4m for Grella, must be paying him £20k per week and what would we get for him now if we tried to sell? Ditto Morten. When you are a Blackburn Rovers you don't buy young and proven, it's all about risk. Yeah but we don't want to buy old and knackered on massive wages either. I'd struggle to think of two worse signings for us than Scholes and Giggs. They'd be on huge wages by our standards and I can't see that Giggs would have any motivation at all to play for another Premiership side other than his beloved United. He'd be retired to all intents and purposes, and I bet he'd rather retire for good than move anyway. Of the two I'd rather have Scholes, he strikes me as a down to earth sort who just likes playing football but honestly, shorn of the favourable treatment afforded to the Manchester United shirt, he'd stuggle to ever make it past the half hour mark once he started indulging in his trademark lunges!

Agreed, dont think Sam will have a set budget and should be allowed to bring in who he needs. The early targets look excellent so far ,this transfer window looks like it's gonna be fun. My trust in Big Sam is through the roof right now, and i hope the board feels the same way. So if we dont sell Rocky then we could line up like this on day one. Robinson Civelli Samba Givet Warnock Emerton Grella M'bami MGP/Diouf Cisse RSC McCarthy Bunn Nelsen MGP/Diouf Dunn Doran Roberts Why does no-one rate Cisse,he's from Marseille and he's available that means we are in for him! A fit RSC and Cisse would be a tremedous parnership. That team is strong in the air at the back and up front which sam would like, dont think this team would get bullied much around the EPL next year.
RevidgeBlue Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I'm sure we'll be linked with many more players before the season starts than the ones we have been already and I wouldn't touch Cisse with a bargepole myself.
AJW Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 i think i have discovered the identity of nicko's mystery man......he has asked us not to ask him and i know there has been a lot of speculation on here , there is a reason for nicko keeping quiet there are events happening that may have an impact on this deal , which will be made clearer in the next few days i wont reveal who i think the target may be , but from nicko has already told us YES he would be within budget NO i dont think this is the guy who will replace RSC i.e another forward will have to come if/when RSC goes He is someone we have all heard of ,but i beleve he is a "new" name on here coyley tried to sign him? - cant find any concrete evidence , but if he did , and he failed , would it have been made public anyhow? it could if been from his time in Scotland Nicko said imagnative - lets not confuse imaginative with glamorous - i would say brave better than kuranyi - this is where opinion and facts meet, nicko thinks he is, and he has scored more goals this season than kuranyi i cant say i heve seen an awful lot of either player , but if i had the choice i would be kuranyi every time
roversmad95 Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Ben Arfa, where have I heard that name before? Lyon's £12million-rated winger Hatem Ben Arfa.
nicko Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Nicko. Have you got any idea of how much we have got to spend during this transfer window (not including the Roque sale)? THE AMOUNT REALLY DEPENDS ON THE ROQUE SALE Any idea how much Burnley will have to spend during the transfer window? YES, KEEPING THAT FOR SUNDAY...
BRFC1995 Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 .....................robbo........................... CIVELLI........samba......nelsen.........GIVET ........M'BAI....M'BANI....warnock .Emerton.......................................diouf ..............MYSTERY STRIKER................... subs. roberts/Pedersen/NEW STRIKER/doran/NEW KEEPER/andrews/NEW MIDFIELDER if sam says he only wants 20-22 first teamers, i think he probably has something similar to this hanging in his office i hope. i'd love it if roque had a change of heart as injuries aside we can't replace him with the same quality and that line up has the potential to be incredibly strong with roque in it. givet is hopefully as good as done, m'bani looks increasingly likely, civelli seems like it may happen.............i'm very optimistic that even on a tight budget we could sign 8 new players. McCarthy(45k?)/Dunn(30k?)/Grella(35k?)/Moko(15k?)/Reid(30k?)/Khiz(20k?)/Tugay(35k?)/Gally(12k?)/Derbyshire(18k?)/ollssen(7k?) = 12.5m(guess) off the wages to cover the wages of less injury prone(hope) better quality. If our summer panned out like above (a) sam would be manager of the year before a balls been kicked ( i'd be hugely optimistic of the new season
mhead Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Nicko - In the light of the new Dawn in politics and more ethical dealings on expenses and activities, is it not time you came up for re-selection? You seem to be playing both sides of East lancashire. The new reality in our little part of Lancashire is that there is the Blue Party and the 6-Finger Party(aka Coylistas). Do you think you can operate sitting on the fence - it can get very wet and windy in these parts. Have you got a colleague or an alternative to take over from you as you move in to the new(?) shed or Media Centre at Turd Moor?
Inta Beaver Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Has anyone heard the news about Scholes might be going Stoke as a player coach? Bet 365 have stopped taking bets on it, which is owned by Stokes chairman. He would of done a good job in our midfield.
PAFELL Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 i think i have discovered the identity of nicko's mystery man......he has asked us not to ask him and i know there has been a lot of speculation on here , there is a reason for nicko keeping quiet there are events happening that may have an impact on this deal , which will be made clearer in the next few days i wont reveal who i think the target may be , but from nicko has already told us YES he would be within budget NO i dont think this is the guy who will replace RSC i.e another forward will have to come if/when RSC goes He is someone we have all heard of ,but i beleve he is a "new" name on here coyley tried to sign him? - cant find any concrete evidence , but if he did , and he failed , would it have been made public anyhow? it could if been from his time in Scotland Nicko said imagnative - lets not confuse imaginative with glamorous - i would say brave better than kuranyi - this is where opinion and facts meet, nicko thinks he is, and he has scored more goals this season than kuranyi i cant say i heve seen an awful lot of either player , but if i had the choice i would be kuranyi every time I think it could be Kris Boyd from Rangers
Hughesy Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Their are alot of rumours about Scholes going there yes - although he has stated all his career that he wants to end his career at Oldham. I think United will probably let both Scholes & Giggs go, but I think they are now past it, especially if they are demanding a fee.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Anybody else continually getting M'Bami and M'Bai mixed up?
